Carrie Jane Phillips
Died: Tuesday, February 18, 2003
Age: 86

WELLSTON - Carrie Jane Phillips, 86, of Wellston, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis.

Born in Jackson County on Nov. 18, 1916, she was the dauther of the late Ernest D. and Florence Cecil Kelly. Carrie was a homemaker, worked several years fo the Jackson County Board of Elections and was a life-long member of Wellston First Presbyterian Church. She was a 1934 graduate of Wellston High School.

She is survived by her children, Maxx Phillips, Kathy (Larry) Walburn and Robert (Paulette) Phillips of Wellston, Bruce (Zofia) Phillips of Chattanooga, Tenn., William Brooke (Debbie) Phillips of Jackson and Kim (Gregg) Frisby of Yorktown, Va.; as well as 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Wilfred "Bill" Phillips, in 1966; sons Barry in 1936, and Michael in 1960; and sisters Myra Simons, Charlotte Martin, Ernestine "Teny" Patterson and Roberta "Bobbi" Maxwell.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, 2 p.m., at Wellston First Presbyterian Church, with CLP John Pelletier and the Rev. John Taylor officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 18 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Wellston 45692.

Arrangements are being handled by McWilliams Funeral Home, Wellston.

Helen Margaret Graham Taylor
Died: Saturday, February 15, 2003
Age: 83

LOGAN - Helen Margaret Graham Taylor, 83, of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Logan, died at her reisdence on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003.

Born Jan. 6, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Frederick P. and Geraldine Dexter Wright Graham. She is sruvived by her husband, Arch Kampbell Taylor.

Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Roberts Funeral Home, Logan. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Thomas E. Parry
Died: Monday, March 10, 2003
Age: 52

ALBANY -- Thomas E. Parry, 52, of Albany, died late Monday morning, March 10, 2003, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 22, 1951, in Athens, he was the son of the late Ralph and Ethel Frances Barnhart Parry. He was a graduate of Athens High School and Hocking College, was former owner and operator of West Union Street Grocery in Athens and was a member of Albany Grange 1611.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Jean Starkey Parry; daughters Amanda Parry and Tanya Parry, both of Albany; wonderful grandchildren Dana, Gaven and Haven; sisters Betty (Bob) Wald of Grove City, Frances (Paul) Walraven of Ashville, and Marcia (Clarence) Hardesty and Judy (Lewis) Keirnes, both of Coshocton; a brother, Ralph Parry Jr. of Athens; a sister-in-law, Drue Parry of Florida; and his mother-in-law, Marguerite Starkey of Athens. He also was loved by his many nieces and nephews. Thomas also will be missed by his best friends, Dr. Jonathan Wukie and Charles Kincade.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert.

Services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, conducted by the Rev. Denver Dodrill. Burial will be in Athens Memory Gardens.

Friends may call at the funeral home today from 5 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association Ohio Affiliate Inc., 937 High St., Worthington 43085.

Newaza M. Smith
Died: Monday, March 10, 2003
Age: 76

MIDDLEPORT -- Newaza M. Smith, 76, of Middleport, died Monday, March 10, 2003, at Pleasant Valley Hospital, Point Pleasant.

Born Sept. 6, 1926, in Mammoth, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles P. Sr. and Elizabeth Rider Hudnall. She is survived by daughters, Linda L. Mills, Donna S. Hall and Judy J. Bush. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Smith.

Services will be Thursday, 11 a.m., at Fisher Funeral Home, Pomeroy. Burial will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Ward Coleman
Died: Sunday, March 9, 2003
Age: 75

McARTHUR -- Ward Coleman, 75, of McArthur, died Sunday, March 9, 2003, at Adena Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 24, 1928, in Pike County, Ky., he was the son of the late Joseph and Tibby Charles Coleman. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Naomi Rose Coleman; daughters, Isabelle (Ronald) Lucas of Hamden and Beatrice (Larry) Eberts of McArthur; a brother, Walter Coleman of Marietta; three grandchildren, Aaron Lucas of Hamden, Kevin Eberts of Fort Lewis, Washington and Karen (Jeremiah) Radabaugh of Columbus; and a great-granddaughter, Bryanna Radabaugh.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters and five brothers.

At Mr. Coleman's request, the body was donated to Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Doris Fox Trader
Died: Sunday, March 9, 2003
Age: 70

ALBANY -- Doris Fox Trader, 70, of Albany, passed from this life on March 9, 2003, at her home, with her family at her side, after an extended illness.

Born Dec. 3, 1932, in Huntington, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Clarence and May Johnson Thompson. She was a homemaker and devoted her life to her family. She served as a medic in the Korean War, and was a life member of the DAV and VFW.

She will be greatly missed by those who survive her, two daughters, Terry (Dick) Beitzel and Janel (Steve) Sewell, both of Albany; two sons, Eddie Trader of Albany, with whom she made her home, and Romie (Sandy) Fox of Pleasanton, Texas; grandchildren, Richard, Jenny and Bubba Beitzel, Wendy and John Sewell, all of Albany, Megan, Matthew and Joshua Fox of Plesanton; great-grandchildren, Breanna Beitzel of New Straitsville and Taylor Beitzel of Bucyrus; three sisters, Patricia Bennett of Orange Park, Fla., Carolyn (John) Scott of Chesapeake and Lois Flickinger of Albany.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Romie C. Fox and Charles E. Trader; a sister, Bernice Bryant; and brothers, James and Robert Thompson.

Services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home, with Pastor Jim Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Crown City Cemetery, Gallia County, with military graveside services conducted by Gallia County Veterans Organizations.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Arvil Miller
Died: Sunday, March 9, 2003
Age: 87

JACKSONVILLE -- Arvil Miller, 87, of Jacksonville, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2003, at Hickory Creek Nursing Center in The Plains.

Born Aug. 24, 1915, in Orbiston, he was the son of the late Fred and Josephine Waldeck Miller. He was married to Pearl O. Sorrell Miller of Jacksonville. Arvil was a member of Glouster Church of Christ, Trimble Masonic Lodge 557, Glouster Eagles 468 and Thea Chapter OES 192.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Arvil (Diana) Miller of Glouster; a daughter, Catherine (Roger) Barber of Sabina; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ralph Miller of Michigan.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and Floyd Miller; and a sister, Arvilla Vess.

Services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at Cardaras Funeral Home in Glouster, with the Rev. David Couch officiating. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Glouster, with graveside military services performed by the Combined Color Guard Unit.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., where a Masonic service will be held at 7:30.

Zola J. Oiler
Died: Sunday, March 9, 2003
Age: 78

WELLSTON -- Zola J. Oiler, 78, a former resident of Wellston, died Sunday, March 9, 2003, at Crowne Health Care Facility, Montgomery, Ala.

Born in Wellston on Dec. 28, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Isaac C. and Susie Sadler May Morris. She is survived by a daughter, Eunice Newsome; and two sons, Kirby and Isaac "Ikey" Oiler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Oiler.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery. Arrangements are by McWilliams Funeral Home, Wellston.

Contributions may be made to a favorite church, charity or organization.

Larry Clinton Holsinger
Died: Saturday, March 8, 2003
Age: 63

RACINE -- Larry Clinton Holsinger, 63, of Racine, died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at his home.

Born May 10, 1939, in Reedsville, he was the son of the late Clinton Robert and Nellie Naomi Rockhold Holsinger.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Proffitt Holsinger; his stepmother, Frances Holsinger of Reedsville; four children, Debbie Meadows, Loretta Holsinger, Larry Holsinger and Vickie Smith.

Services will be held Tuesday, 1 p.m., at Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood, W.Va., with the Rev. Jim Satterfield officiating.

Friends may call at the funeral home today, from 6 to 9 p.m.
