THE PLAINS -- Mary E. Riley, 78, of The Plains, died early Monday evening, Jan. 27, 2003, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital.
Born in Piqua on Jan. 20, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Herbert H. and Dorothy Miller Bryant. She was a graduate of South High School in Columbus, was a retired secretary to the superintendents of schools at Wellston and New Lexington, a member of The Plains United Methodist Church and New Lexington Order of Eastern Star, a former active member of Athens Boat and Ski Club, and was active in athletic boosters in Wellston, New Lexington and Athens schools.
She is survived by her husband, Bill A.; daughters Linda (Jerry) Rolli of Stockport and Patricia (Jerry) McKibben of Amesville; sons Richard Riley of Tampa, Fla., and Bill A. (Cheryl) Riley Jr. of Athens; grandchildren Jeffrey McKibben of Amesville, Chad McKibben of Amesville, Teresa Carpenter of Amesville, Rick Perdue Jr. and Ryan Perdue of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Billy Riley Jr. of Athens; sisters Marjorie Wolfe of St. Petersburg, Fla., Betty Brown of Columbus and Julie Weaver of Circleville; and a brother, John Bryant of Pickerington.
She was preceded in death by a stepson, Phil Allen, and a brother, Richard Bryant.
Services will be held Thursday, 3:30 p.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, with Jack Sedwick officiating. Burial will be in Athens Memory Gardens.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m.
Charles Eldridge Russell Hanning
Died: Sunday, January 26, 2003
Age: 55
NELSONVILLE -- Charles "Chuck" Eldridge Russell Hanning, 55, of Nelsonville, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at his residence.
Born Oct. 14, 1947, in Logan, he was the son of Bernadine Mourn Hanning of Buchtel and the late Eldridge Russell Hanning. He was married to Kathy Lee Klump Hanning of Nelsonville.
He was employed by Ohio Operating Engineers Local 18 as a crane operator. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of VFW Post 3467 of Nelsonville.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a son, James M. (Rochele Taylor) Sycks of Logan; a daughter, Christy (Jon) Barker of The Plains; a granddaughter, Ashley M. Barker; two brothers, Brent (Rita) Hanning and Kenneth (Fauna) Hanning, both of Nelsonville; a sister, Rosemary Hanning of Grove City; a special friend, Charles "Red" Martin of Nelsonville; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Services will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville. Interment will be in Connett Cemetery, Nelsonville.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

WELLSTON -- Betty F. Jones, 83, of Wellston, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at Jenkins Memorial Health Facility in Wellston.
Born March 14, 1919, in Wellston, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Daisy Roach Downard.
She is survived by her husband, Gilbert H. Jones; and a son, John Jones of Jackson.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, 1:15 p.m., at Ridgewood Cemetery in Wellston.

Ruby L. Montgomery

Age: 79
GLOUSTER -- Ruby L. Montgomery, 79, a former resident of Glouster and Corning, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, in Columbus.
Born Aug. 21, 1923, in Glouster, she was the daughter of the late Percy Lunsford and Iva Robinson. Her husband was Robert R. Montgomery.
She is survived by four sons, Bob, Jim, Steve and Terry.

MALTA -- Mary N. Smith, 97, of Malta, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Mark Rest Center in McConnelsville.
Born Aug. 10, 1905, in Ringgold, she was the daughter of the late Chauncey B. and Florence M. Murphy Smith.
Services will be held Wednesday, 1:30 p.m., at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill. Burial will be in Mountville Cemetery.

Myrtle Elizabeth Cartwright Fryer

GREENFIELD -- Myrtle Elizabeth Cartwright Fryer, 85, of Greenfield, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at Edgewood Manor, Greenfield.
Born Dec. 15, 1917, in Sabina, she was the daughter of the late Harley and Elizabeth McKinney Cartwright. A homemaker, she was of the Church of Christ faith.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Wendell Jr. and Nancy Fryer of Huron, and James R. and Christina Fryer of Washington C.H.; 12 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Donna Cartwright of Athens; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Fryer, on April 26, 1998; three brothers, Carl, Harley and Ray Cartwright; and two sisters, Marie Corwin and Mabel Cartwright.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Murray-Fettro Funeral Home, Greenfield, with the Rev. Robert K. Blaine officiating. Burial will be in Greenfield Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
Lavada M. Ramsey Mayle

CHESTERHILL -- Lavada M. Ramsey Mayle, 87, of Chesterhill, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at Mark Rest Center in McConnelsville.
Born Aug. 18, 1915, in Lathorpe, she was the daughter of the late John and Lula Mae Mayle Ramsey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Mayle.
She is survived by three sons, Robert, Rick and Gene Mayle; and two daughters, Shelba Mayle and Eloise Norris.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Bethel Wesleyan Methodist Church near Chesterhill.
Calling hours will be Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Stone-Matheny Funeral Home in Chesterhill and one hour prior to the start of the service at the church on Tuesday.
Burial will be in Mount Hermon Cemetery.
Kenneth E. Rockhold
Died: Friday, January 24, 2003
Age: 59
PORTLAND -- Kenneth E. Rockhold, 59, Portland, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg.
Born Nov. 15, 1943 in Reedsville, he was the son of the late Walter and Norma Pifer Rockhold.
Survivors include his wife, Judith; two daughters, Deanna Johnson and Kathy Smith; and three sons, Kenny Rockhold, Tony Rockhold and Ryan Rockhold; a stepson, Gary Holter; a stepdaughter, Rebecca Kern; and a granddaughter raised in his home, Teela Lemley.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Brenda Lemley.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at White Funeral Home in Coolville with burial in Eden Cemetery, Reedsville.
Visitation is today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Neil Hanford Wyatt
Died: Friday, January 24, 2003
Age: 77
GLOUSTER -- Neil Hanford Wyatt, 77, of Glouster, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at Brookside Rehabilitation Center in The Plains.
Born Aug. 16, 1925 in Glouster, he was the son of the late Herman Wyatt and Carol Fulton Wyatt Coey.
Mr. Wyatt was retired from Ohio University as a building maintenance superintendent and was a member of Bishopville Church of Christ.
A World War II Army-Air Force veteran, he was a corporal in the 54th Troop Carrier Wing 5th Air Force.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl Marjorie Raley Wyatt; a son, Timothy Neil Wyatt of Glouster; and a sister, Donna Porter of New Marshfield.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene and Jack Wyatt.
Private graveside services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. for family members only at Maplewood Cemetery in Glouster, with John Wright officiating.
No calling hours will be observed. Arrangements are by Cardaras Funeral Home in Glouster.
