Frederic Heffken
Died: Friday, August 17, 2001
GLOUSTER -- Frederic C. Fritz Heffken, 100, of Glouster, passed away Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at Hickory Creek Nursing Center in The Plains.
He was born Feb. 26, 1901, in Glouster, son of the late Wilhelm and Dora Stelterman Heffken. He was the husband of the late Bertha Dalton Heffken. He was a retired coal miner and had worked in mines in the Glouster area for several years. He was an avid ham radio operator and a member of Trimble Masonic Lodge 557 and 32nd degree Scottish Rite.
He is survived by a son, William E. (Margaret) Heffken of Warsaw; two daughters, June M. Heffken and Jeanne A. Lemoine, both of Glouster; five grandchildren, Cynthia Walters, Don Heffken, Jayne Boyd, Paul Lemoine and Timothy Lemoine; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
Services will be held Monday, 1 p.m., at Cardaras Funeral Home in Glouster, with the Rev. Steven Bentley officiating. Interment will be in Taylor Ridge Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home today, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Michael Mills
Died: Friday, August 17, 2001
ATHENS -- Michael M. Mills, 54, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at his home in Hide-A-Way Hills.
Born July 12, 1947, in Circleville, he was the son of Norman E. and Mary P. Orihood Mills.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Yvonne Perry Mills; stepdaughters Pat (Chris) Clark, Pam Perry and Tonya (Russell) Abrams, all of Athens, and Monica Perry of Reynoldsburg; seven grandchildren; his mother, Mary P. Mills of Amanda; a sister, Kathy (Don) Campbell of Amanda; a brother, Pat (Barb) Mills of Columbus; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his father, Norman E. Mills, in 1995.
He received a bachelors degree from Ohio University, a masters degree from University of Cincinnati, and a Ph.D. in social work from Ohio State University. He was a therapist at Scioto Paint Valley Mental Health Center. He was a retired OU instructor, was on the board of directors of Circleville Senior Center, and was a member of Circleville Fly Fisherman's Club and NASW.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Taylor Funeral Home in Amanda, with G. Kenneth Shafer Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Amanda Twp. Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The family suggests that contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Carolyn Neal
Died: Friday, August 17, 2001
JACKSON -- Carolyn M. Neal, 66, of Grandview Ave. in Jackson, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at University Hospital in Columbus.
She was born June 22, 1935, in Toledo, the daughter of the late Cloise and Carie Dailey Barton.
Mrs. Neal was the former owner and operator of Neal Florist in Athens and Mame Steel Greenhouse in Jackson and had been employed as a floral designer for local flower shops including Anna's and Harr's. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Jackson.
She is survived by her husband Richard E. Neal; a daughter, Cindy Colby of Oak Hill; four sons, Richard E. (Bobbie) Neal II of Columbus, Robert C. (Linda) and Bryan P. Neal of Jackson and Bruce E. Neal of Charleston, W.Va.; a sister, Anna May Toomer of San Diego; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by brothers Tom, Bill, Pat, Jack and Ned Barton. Services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Monsignor Robert Metzger officiating.
Friends may call today from 6 to 7 p.m. at Eisnaugle-Lewis Funeral Home in Jackson, with a wake service to follow at 7 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity Catholic Church. With respect to Carolyn's wishes, cremation will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Jackson County, P.O. Box 1, Jackson, Ohio 45640; or the donors favorite charity.
Norma Roberts
Died: Friday, August 17, 2001
CUTLER -- Norma Mayle Roberts, 65, of Columbus, formerly of Cutler, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at Grant Medical Center in Columbus.
Born Jan. 2, 1936, in Cutler, she was the daughter of the late Grosvenor and Lena Harris Mayle.
She is survived by three daughters, Starr Cunningham, Barbara Jean Kennedy and Hope Brewster.
Services will be held Tuesday, 1 p.m., at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill. Burial will be in Mount Liberty Cemetery, Cutler.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 11 a.m. until time of services.
Charles Trader
Died: Friday, August 17, 2001
ALBANY -- Charles E. Trader, 62, of Buddy Road in Albany, died unexpectedly Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Grafton, W.Va., son of the late Elmer Gilbert and Nellie Frances Pratt Trader. He was a farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Fox Trader; two sons, Charles Eddie Trader of Albany, and Romie C. (Sandy) Fox Jr. of Pleasanton, Texas; a daughter Mrs. Terry (Richard) Beitzel of Albany; six grandchildren, Richard, Jenny and Cristian Beitzel, and Megan, Matthew and Joshua Fox; a great-grandchild, Briana Beitzel; a sister, Doris Zeigler of New Marshfield; and two brothers, Jim (Twilia) Trader of Pomeroy and Kenneth (Lorie) Trader of Port Orchard, Wash.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Trader.
Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home in Albany, with Pastor Jim Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Alexander Cemetery.

Lloyd Cain
Died: Thursday, August 16, 2001
NELSONVILLE -- Lloyd W. Cain, of Nelsonville, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville.
Born Jan. 26, 1926, in Delaware, he was the son of the late Oliver E. and Clara E. Goodin Cain.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Marcum Cain; his son, Larry Cain; daughter, Debbie Cain; and stepsons, John Kupchik Jr. and Joel Kupchik.
Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Murray City. Burial will be in Dew Cemetery in Perry County.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Emma Kennedy
Died: Thursday, August 16, 2001
GLOUSTER -- Emma Kennedy, 89, a former resident of Glouster, died recently at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster.
She was the daughter of the late Robert and Millie Hanning of Glouster. Mrs. Kennedy is survived by four sons.
Service are being arranged.
Esther Levandofsky
Died: Thursday, August 16, 2001
BUCHTEL -- Esther Elvira Barletta Levandofsky, 84, of Buchtel, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at her residence.
She is survived by two daughters, Marlene Gallatin and Dianne Garber, both of Dayton; two sons, Rudolph Levandofsky of Atlanta, Ga., and Christopher Levandofsky of Buchtel; 10 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph Levandofsky; a son, Michael Levandofsky; and a grandson, Michael Levandofsky.
Funeral services will be held Friday, noon, at St. Mary of the Hills Catholic Church in Buchtel, with Fr. John Mucha officiating. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Buchtel.
Friends may call at the church on Friday, from 10 a.m. until time of services.

Zoeta G. Lanning
Died: Tuesday, March 18, 2003
Age: 74
NELSONVILLE -- Zoeta G. Lanning, 74, of Utica, formerly of Nelsonville, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at her residence in Utica.
Born April 16, 1928, in Athens County, she was the daughter of Mildred Huddy Campbell of Nelsonville and the late Charles Campbell. She was a graduate of Starr Washington High School.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Antoinette and Brian Holzschuher of St. Louisville; three grandchildren, Bobby Knicely, Marty (Doug) Halm and Katie Holzschuher; a great-grandchild, Zackery Halm; and brothers Rudolph (Shirley) Campbell and Charles (Teresa) Campbell, both of Nelsonville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester "Si" Lanning, who passed away in 1983, and a brother, James Denver Campbell.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at Wolfe Cemetery, Haydenville. There will be no calling hours observed.
