GLOUSTER -- Glenna C. Malone, 87, of Greens Run, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at Hickory Creek Nursing Center, The Plains.
Born Aug. 28, 1915, in Jacksonville, she was the daughter of the late Albertus and Maude Walter Lowry. She is survived by a son, Kenneth H. Malone. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert L. Malone.
Services will be Thursday, 2 p.m., at Hilltop Cemetery, Millfield.
Friends may call at Cardaras Funeral Home, Glouster, Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Ernest Glen Fossett
Died: Sunday, March 16, 2003
Age: 48
COOLVILLE -- Ernest Glen Fossett, 48, of Parkersburg, died Monday, March 16, 2003, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg.
Born Nov. 11, 1954, in Chicago, Ihe was the son of the late Raymond F. and Betty Hall Fossett. He is survived by two sons, Charles Buckley and James Wolfe.
Services will be held Sunday, 2 p.m., at Coolville Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Arrangements are by White-Schwarzel Funeral Home, Coolville.
Mamie Dawn Harmon
Died: Sunday, March 16, 2003
Age: 46
TUPPERS PLAINS -- Mamie Dawn Harmon, 46, of Tuppers Plains, died Sunday, March 16, 2003, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg.
Born July 31, 1956, in Grove City, she was the daughter of the late William Howard and Audrey Crunette Gloyd. She is survived by her children, Candy Harmon, James Harmon, Carrie Harmon and Mark Browning.
Services will be Thursday, 1 p.m., at Rutland Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be in Nelson Cemetery.

Aieha B. Matheny
Died: Sunday, March 16, 2003
Age: 59
MURRAY CITY -- Aieha B. "Cathy" Matheny, 59, of Murray City, died Sunday, March 16, 2003, at her residence.
Born Aug. 25, 1943, in Kenitra, Morocco, she was the daughter of the late Mohammed and Kahdija Benmekki Fraoui. She was a member of Murray City Eagles and American Legion Auxiliaries and had retired from the former Logan Goodyear plant.
She is survived by her husband of 34 1/2 years, Carl P. Matheny; a daughter, Touria Semingson of Tucson, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Christian (Misty) Farley of Marietta, and Colt and Kyle Semington of Tucson; a brother, Miloud Fraoui of Morocco; and a sister, Tahmal Fraoui, also of Morocco.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mohammed; and a sister, Saadia.
Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Brown Funeral Home, Murray City, with the Rev. Ernie Perkins officiating. Burial will be in Carbon Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and anytime on Thursday, with the family in attendance from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mildred B. Scott
Died: Sunday, March 16, 2003
Age: 89
CARBONDALE -- Mildred B. Scott, 89, was born July 9, 1913, in Carbondale. She was the daughter of the late George and Mary Lou Barber. She died on Sunday, March 16, 2003, at Wyngate Retirement Center, Jackson.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Ovid Scott; a sister, Betty Jordan; and eight brothers, Clyde Barber, Melvin Barber, Delbert Barber, Allison Barber, Howard Barber, Floyd Barber, James Barber and Clarence, who died as an infant.
Mildred graduated from Union Furnace High School in Hocking County. Active in school athletics, Mildred received sports honors and, in the clerical field, typed 101 correct words a minute on a standard typewriter -- something almost unprecedented at the time.
Soon after graduation, Mildred put her clerical skills to work by going to work for the Ohio Department of Liquor Control in Columbus, where she retired after 35 years of state service.
Several years after retirement, Mildred moved to First Community Retirement Village in Columbus, but later moved to Wyngate Retirement (assisted living) at Jackson.
Mildred attended the Methodist Church, was a member of The Plains Auxiliary Post 7174 and was an honorary member of AMVETS Post 76 of Athens.
Services will be conducted on Wednesday, at 11 a.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, by Pastor David Cogar. Burial will be in Asbury Cemetery, Hocking County.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m., where The Plains Ladies Auxiliary Post 7174 will hold services at 7.
Cecil Thomas
Died: Sunday, March 16, 2003
Age: 57
CHAUNCEY, -- Cecil "Gene" Thomas, 57, of Chauncey, died Sunday, March 16, 2003, at his home.
Born Oct. 15, 1945, in Athens, he was the son of the late Cecil E. and Phyllis Clark Thomas. He was a 1963 graduate of Chauncey-Dover High School and was formerly employed by Anchor Hocking glass factory, with 34 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine; two sons, Danny (Latisha) Thomas of Chauncey and Jerry (Stacy) Thomas of Millfield; three grandchildren, Jade, Justin and Drue; three brothers and a sister, Jim (Janie) Thomas of Buchtel, Sherry (Dana) Chapman of Athens, Larry (Maggie) Thomas of Albany and Gary (Janice) Thomas of Athens; and many other relatives and friends.
Services will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. William Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Hilltop Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
William Thomas Thompson
Died: Sunday, March 16, 2003
Age: 53
NELSONVILLE -- William Thomas "Tommy" Thompson, 53, of Nelsonville, formerly of Glouster, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2003, at Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville.
Born April 1, 1949, in Athens, he was the son of the late George C. and Dorothy Mingus Thompson.
He worked at ATCO sheltered workshop in Athens, lived at Our House in Nelsonville and loved bowling.
He is survived by many cousins, friends, co-workers and staff at ATCO; and special friends Damon Sargent III, Destiny Sargent, Carrie Hoover, Ralph Snyder, and Charles and Connie Perkins.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, 1:30 p.m., at St. Joseph Cemetery, Columbus, with Deacon Roger Pry officiating.

Naomi Browne Baldwin
Died: Saturday, March 15, 2003
Age: 91
ATHENS -- Naomi Browne Baldwin, longtime resident of Athens, died in Palm Desert, Calif., on March 15, 2003, at the age of 91.
She was married to Allan A. Baldwin, M.D., for 62 years before his death in 1996. Naomi met Allan in Cincinnati in the mid-1930s, where she trained for her nursing degree and he was attending medical school. Soon after their marriage, they adopted two sons, and later, a daughter. We remember our home as a loving and nourishing place for us, and for a countless number of our friends. Sons Richard of Columbia, Md., and Tom and his wife Nan of Dublin, Ohio, and daughter Constance Baldwin of Sacramento, Calif., will forever remember how truly blessed we are that they chose us. Also surviving are cherished grandchildren Tony and Becky Baldwin of Marietta, Debbie Cochran of Pageville, Tana Rose of Virginia Beach, Chris and Lori Baldwin of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., and Brad Baldwin of Rocky Mount, N.C. In addition, there are eight great-grandchildren.
Family members, to include a nephew, Tom Baldwin and his wife Marsha from Reno, Nev., will attend a memorial service for Naomi later this week in Palm Desert at The Fountains at The Carlotta.
Phyllis Jean Halbirt Ackley
Died: Saturday, March 15, 2003
CANAANVILLE -- Phyllis Jean Halbirt Ackley of Wickingham Farm, Canaanville, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster.
She was the daughter of Nelle Hill Halbirt and Leslie E. Halbirt. In her early years, she attended State University School of Nursing and the Cadet Nurse Corps Program. She later studied cytology for cancer research at Ohio State University and practiced in Columbus, Washington, D.C., and Annapolis, Md. She was a member of the American Pathologists and the American Society of Cytology.
After retirement, she become a member and officer of Canaanville Methodist Church. She assisted in establishing the Athens County Museum and Historical Society an was a member of the Nabby Lee Ames Chapter of the Daughters of the Revolution, Chapter 273 of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Association for Research and Enlightenment. She was a seeker of spiritual wisdom, studying yoga, philosophy and religion, and a graduate of the Silva Mind Control Organization.
She enjoyed her family, friends, her flowers and pets, and her home in Wickingham, which is recorded on the National Registry of Historic Places.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Autmer Ackley; three treasured children and their spouses, Merrie Lee and Mike Roller, Michael and Jan Ackley, and Kathryn Marie Graham and Donn Huffman; a granddaughter, Samantha Jean Roller, four stepgrandchildren, Sarah Antolino, Gina Stasulli-Green, Michael Stasulli and Daniel Stasulli; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Paige Marie Green and Kaila Jaden Stasulli.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Kathryn Leslie Roller.
Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. and Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, with Pastor James Lambert officiating. Burial will be in West Union Street Cemetery, near her family.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday at 5 to 8 p.m.
It is requested that flowers be omitted and contributions be made to Canaanville Methodist Church.
