McARTHUR -- Fred Hinty, 68, of McArthur, died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at his residence.
Born Dec. 24, 1934, in Columbus, he was the son of the late Sherman Hinty and Elma Blanche Montgomery.
Services will be Saturday, 1 p.m., at Bell Cemetery, Allensville.
Friends may call at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur, on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Elpha Mae Keyser Zuefle
Died: Saturday, March 15, 2003
Age: 75
ATHENS -- Elpha Mae Keyser Zuefle, 75, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2003, after a long illness.
Elpha was born on May 10, 1927, in Scioto County, where she was a lifelong resident. She was the daughter of the late Ernest and Erma Weaver Keyser of Nauvoo, and the widow of the late David Lawrence Zuefle of McDermott.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Keyser; her oldest son, Mark Wade Zuefle; and an infant daughter.
She is survived by a son, David Matthew Zuefle of Athens; a sister and brother-in-law, Dolores Spurlock and Thomas Spurlock of West Portsmouth; a sister, Phyllis Ward of West Portsmouth; two sisters-in-law, Vaunda Zuefle of McDermott and Wilda Zuefle of Vero Beach, Fla.; and good friends, including Joanne and Bob Uhl of Lucasville, Laura Phillips of Athens, Margaret Phillips of Evanston, Ill., and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Elpha, known as "Ciss" to many family members and friends, was a graduate of Washington High School Class of 1945. Elpha and her husband, Dave, were the former owners of Zuefle's Jewelry in Portsmouth. She was a faithful Christian and a wonderful mother, known to her family and friends as a bright person who enjoyed dining out, gardening and traveling. She was especially fond of trips to Chicago. She had friends across the area, including many at Victory Baptist Church, Portsmouth Baptist Church, First Presbyterian Church and Christ's Community Church.
Services were held today at Roger W. Davis Funeral Home, West Portsmouth. Interment was in Scioto Burial Park.

LaReina Levinson
Died: Saturday, March 15, 2003
ATHENS -- LaReina Levinson of Athens passed away Saturday, March 15, 2003, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by her husband, David; her son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Franzie Ericsson of Karlsruhe, Germany; her sister, Shirley Kauffman of Philadelphia; and several nieces and nephews in Philadelphia, Cleveland, Tampa, and Madison, Wisc.
Cremation was carried out by the services of Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home.

Ivan E. Matheny

Age: 77
NEW MARSHFIELD -- Ivan E. Matheny, 77, of New Marshfield, died unexpectedly early Saturday morning, March 15, 2003, at his home.
Born Jan. 18, 1926, in Logan, he was the son of the late Fred and Fannie Wolfe Dabritz. He was a retired carpenter having worked in the Carpenters Union 356. He attended Waterloo High School and was a veteran of World War II having served in the Navy. He was a member and past master of New Marshfield Lodge F&AM 426 of Ohio.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Clark Matheny; a daughter, Teresa (Kenny) Keirns of New Marshfield; sons David (Renee) Matheny of New Marshfield, Dennis Matheny of New Marshfield, Curt (Michelle) Matheny of Albany; grandchildren Jennifer Gray, and Jeffrey and Evan Matheny of New Marshfield; and sisters Mary Zimmerman of Lancaster and Marjorie (Don) Pidcock of Nelsonville.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 1 p.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, conducted by minister Willard Love, with burial in New Marshfield Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., where New Marshfield Lodge F&AM will hold memorial services at 7 p.m. Monday.
Charles David Rood

McARTHUR -- Charles David Rood, 26, of Clarksville, Tenn., died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at Gateway Medical Center, Clarksville.
She is survived by her parents, Robert D. and Janice Nichols Rood of Clarksville; and an uncle and aunts, the Rev. Ferrell and Nancy Rood of Zaleski, and Dorothy Rood of Wellston.
Services will be held Wednesday at Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home, Clarksville. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
Celsey Dawn Frash
Died: Friday, March 14, 2003
McCONNELSVILLE -- Celsey Dawn Frash of Columbus, age 7 months and 29 days, died Friday, March 14, 2003, at 8:23 p.m. at Children's Hospital, Columbus.
Born July 16, 2002, at Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus, she was the daughter of Mark Joseph Frash and Jill D. Westfall Frash. She was a member of the Catholic religion.
Besides her parents, she is survived by her paternal grandparents, Robin Frash of Columbus and Mark Frash; paternal great-grandmothers, Sarah Smith of McConnelsville and Mabel Frash of Pennsville; maternal grandparents, Butch and Vickie Westfall of Glouster; maternal great-grandparents, Neil and Jeannine Butt of Glouster and Irene Westfall of Malta; maternal great-great-grandmothers Jeanne Butt of Newark and Mildred Shockley of Newark; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be Monday, 3 p.m., at Matheney Funeral Home, McConnelsville. Burial will be in McConnelsville Cemetery.
Visitation is Monday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
Martha F. Sanda
Died: Friday, March 14, 2003
Age: 78
GLOUSTER -- Martha F. (Rettemyer) Sands, 78, of Glouster, died Friday, March 14, 2003, at Hickory Creek Nursing Center, The Plains.
Born Sept. 23, 1924, in Buchtel, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Francis McLiechack Rettemyer.
Mrs. Sands was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Columbus, and had been a longtime Columbus resident. She and her husband returned to Glouster following retirement. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, William F. Sands; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Michael Lesher of Columbus; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles E. and Jo Sands of Hilliard; three sisters, Mary (Vic) Giganti of Las Vegas, Anne McCauley of Medford, Ore., and Alice (Don) Hensler of Medford, Ore.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Rettemyer.
Services will be Monday, 1 p.m., at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home. Burial will be in West Union St. Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Josephine I. Sikorski

Age: 87
GLOUSTER -- Josephine I. Sikorski, 87, of Glouster, passed away Friday, March 14, 2003, at her residence.
She was born April 21, 1915, in Glouster, the daughter of the late James and Martha Domenico Covella. She was the widow of Joseph Sikorski. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and Moose Lodge 1197.
She is survived by nine sons, Joseph "Pooch" (Pat) Sikorski of Bishopville, Bob (Nancy) Sikorski of Washington, Mich., Ron (Chris) Sikorski of Glouster, John (Lyla) Sikorski of Ferndale, Mich., Greg Sikorski of Istanbul, Turkey, Dennis (Virginia "Hank") Sikorski of McArthur, Ralph Sikorski of Glouster, Mark Sikorski of The Plains, and Tim (Sherry) Sikorski of Glouster; four daughters, Pat Hartman of Mount Clemons, Mich., Rose (Bob) Lieb of Reynoldsburg, Jean (Jim) Bickley of Glouster and Vicki (Jeff) Ross of Bishopville; 46 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Tony and Jimmy Covella; three sisters, Mary Watson, Vera Scerba and Lena Exline; four grandchildren, Stephanie Sikorski, Susan Ross, Timmy Lyon and Terry Rehe; and a son-in-law, Barney Hartman.
Funeral liturgy with Mass will be Saturday, 10 a.m., at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Glouster, with Father John Mucha officiating. Interment will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Glouster.
Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Cardaras Funeral Home, Glouster, where a Christian wake service will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m.
Earl Elden Ball
Died: Thursday, March 13, 2003
Age: 78
LOGAN -- Earl Elden "Shorty" Ball, 78, of Logan, died Thursday, March 13, 2003, at Broadview Health Center in Columbus. He was born Feb. 15, 1925, in Logan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Goldie Ruth Cherry Ball.
Services will be Saturday, 3 p.m., at Roberts Funeral Home, Logan. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by the Combined Veterans of Hocking County.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
Wanda G. Bias
Died: Thursday, March 13, 2003
Age: 76
HAMDEN -- Wanda G. Bias, 76, a former resident of Columbus, died Thursday, March 13, 2003, at Huston Nursing Home, Hamden.
She was born in Hamden and was a graduate of Hamden High School. Mrs. Bias was a retired administrative assistant for the Ohio State University Department of Family Medicine and a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary 495 of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Elma Ellis Huston; and siblings, Harvy, John, Max, Charles and Helen Huston, and Ruth Cummings.
She is survived by daughters Karen Barnes and Klara Renay Bias; a brother, Kenneth (Mary) Huston; a sister, Margie Smith; a sister-in-law, Margie Huston; a friend, Susan Taylor; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Monday, 2 p.m., at Schoedinger East Chapel, 5360 E. Livingtson Ave., Columbus. Interment will be in Glen Rest Memorial Estate, Reynoldsburg.
The family will receive friends at the funeral hom on Monday from noon until the time of service.
