James Dodrill

McARTHUR -- James Garfield Dodrill, 57, of McArthur, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 12, 1944, in Columbus, son of the late Garfield A. and Bonnilyn Peck Dodrill.
He is survived by children, James Garfield Dodrill II and Gina Stelluti.
Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Garrett Funeral Home in McArthur. Burial will be in Elk Cemetery.

Hazel Hayes
Died: Wednesday, August 22, 2001
NELSONVILLE -- Hazel M. Marks Hayes, 88, of Zaleski, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 15, 1913, in Nelsonville, she was the daughter of the late Alvin and Ethel Irvin Marks.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Sylvester Hayes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, 2:30 p.m., at St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Zaleski. Burial will be in St. Sylvester Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church on Saturday, one hour prior to services.
Arrangements are by Garrett Funeral Home in McArthur.
George Neigler
Died: Wednesday, August 22, 2001
RACINE -- George J. Neigler, 81, of 859 Sixth St., Racine, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at his residence.
Born June 6, 1920, in Hartford, W.Va., he was the son of the late Howard D. and Frankie Pickens Neigler.
He is survived by his wife, Beulah Marr Neigler; daughters June Miller and Shirlee Cappo; and a son, David G. Neigler.
Services will be held Friday, 2 p.m., at Cremeens Funeral Home. Burial will be in Letart Falls Cemetery.

POMEROY -- Virginia L. Dean, 71, of 38158 Wolfe Pen Road, Pomeroy, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, in the extended care unit of Veterans Memorial Hospital.
Born Oct. 24, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Vermont Brown Terrell.
She is survived by her husband, John A. Dean; and sons John W. and Richard L. Dean.
Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Ewing Funeral Home. Burial will be in Wells Cemetery.

Phyllis McAllister
Died: Tuesday, August 21, 2001
COLUMBUS -- Phyllis J. Greenwood McAllister, 60, of Columbus, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at her home, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
She attended Church of the Redeemer United Methodist of Columbus. She was previously employed as a legal secretary for Siemer, Leighton and Love law firm.
Her love for her grandchildren and for the ocean was exceptional. She was the greatest wife, mother, grandmother and OSU fan in the world.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Bessie Greenwood; and her mother-in-law, Ruth Apple.
She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Roger; a daughter, Rhonda Faller of Reynoldsburg; grandchildren Dustin and Courtney; a son, Jeffrey (Anne) McAllister of Wilmington, N.C.; a grandson, Nathan; a brother, Joseph (Kay) Greenwood of Manchester, Tenn.; her father-in-law, Arthur Apple of Lancaster; sisters-in-law Judi Reynolds and Brenda Apple of Lancaster; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be held Friday, at 10 a.m., at Church of the Redeemer United Methodist, 235 McNaughten Road, Columbus. Friends may call at Schoedinger East Chapel, 5360 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, on Thursday, from 5 to 8 p.m.
A graveside committal service and interment will be held Friday, at 2 p.m., at Northwood Cemetery in Cambridge.

Helen Pearson
Died: Tuesday, August 21, 2001
ATHENS -- Helen E. VanNest Strawn Pearson died at her home in Palmetto, Fla., on Sunday, July 21, 2001, from an extended illness.
She was born Helen Anderson in Trimble in 1929, and lived in Athens until 1982. She was a member of Athens Allemandes, a co-founder of the Support of Singles Group and a member of Palmetto First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Carl Pearson; a daughter, Rhonda Bolch; a son, Steve VanNest; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Rev. Lillian Wright
Died: Tuesday, August 21, 2001
BUCHTEL -- The Rev. Lillian Lafollette Wright, 82, a retired United Methodist minister, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2001, at Westmoreland Place of Chillicothe.
Born June 8, 1919, in Buchtel, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Verda Lafollette. The Rev. Wright was a graduate of Buchtel High School, Cherrington School of Nursing in Logan, and Florida Professional Academy in Miami. She attended Ohio University and received an associates degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Ga.
She was the first housing director of the former Hocking Technical College in Nelsonville.
The Rev. Wright served 15 different churches in her ministry until her retirement. She was a member of Dry Run United Methodist Church, and Chillicothe and Frankfort Senior Citizens.
She is survived by a son, the Rev. Michael (JoEllen) Wright of Frankfort; three granddaughters, Eugenia (John) McCollister of Frankfort, Lenette (Christopher) McDonald of Troy, Ill., and Lisa (Darryl) Halcomb of Frankfort; a grandson, Seth (Megan) Wright of Chillicothe; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Eva (James) Gallagher of Logan; seven nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home in Nelsonville, with the Rev. Ernie Lucas officiating. Interment will be in Conner Cemetery, Buchtel.

Margaret Chadwell
Died: Monday, August 20, 2001
GROVE CITY -- Margaret Mary Chadwell, 98, of Grove City, a former Athens area resident, passed away on Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at Monterey Care Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Chadwell; sons Lloyd and Donald; and parents Frank L. and Nancy E. Bethel Wolf.
She is survived by sons Melvin (Patricia) of Delaware and John F. of Grove City; a daughter, Margaret Probasco of Upper Arlington; and grandchildren John, Dawn, Deborah, Laura, Dan, Melinda and Leon.
Services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Miller Funeral Home, 2697 Columbus St., Grove City, with John Hays officiating. Interment will be in Grove City Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 9 to 11 a.m.
Charles Sherman
Died: Monday, August 20, 2001
NEW MARSHFIELD -- Charles J. Sherman, 75, of New Marshfield, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Chillicothe.
Born March 23, 1926, in New Marshfield, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Edith M. Liggett Sherman. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Joyce Sherman and Ed Sherman of the home, Doris Carpenter of New Marshfield, Lois (Dwight) Weiss of Athens, and Paul (Bessie) Sherman of New Marshfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wendell Sherman.
There will be no funeral services or calling hours observed. Arrangements are by Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home in Athens.
