Died: Sunday, January 26, 2003
Age: 78

CHESTERHILL -- Eldon E. Vincent, 78, of Chesterhill, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster.

March 6, 1924, in Pennsville, he was the son of John and Goldie Vicroy Vincent.

He is survived by three sons, Jimmy, Larry and Gary Vincent; and six daughters, Phyllis Stanley, Marlene Davis, Susan Coler, Linda Sheets, Marilyn Jones and Gail Mullins.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jean Duncan Vincent.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at Joy Cemetery in Joy. There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are by Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill.

Lois Frances Ziegler
Died: Sunday, January 26, 2003
Age: 87

THE PLAINS -- Lois Frances Ziegler, 87, of the Plains, died late Sunday afternoon, Jan. 26, 2003, at Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville.

Born April 30, 1915, in Perry County, she was the daughter of the late John and Bertha Maxwell Fouts. A graduate of Corning High School and Columbus Cosmetology College, she was a beautician early in life. An avid bowler, she belonged to several bowling leagues at Athens Rollerbowl. She also was an avid quilter and painter who enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Wellington L. "Zig"; a daughter, Lynn Sanders of Ashtabula; sons Jerry (Janice) Ziegler of The Plains, Ronald E. (Margaret) Ziegler of Westerville and Tom (Tanya) Ziegler of Columbus; granddaughters Kimberly Carter of Lancaster, Amy Ziegler of Canal Winchester and Emily Ziegler of Westerville; grandsons Jeff (Annette) Ziegler of The Plains, Todd Ziegler of Lancaster, David Ziegler of Columbus, Eric Ziegler of Lancaster, Michael Sanders of Jamestown, N.Y., and Noah Ziegler of Westerville; seven great-grandchildren; sisters Dorothy Nelson of Pickerington, Maxine (Bernie) Klonowski of Independence, Pauline Williams of Hemlock, and Elaine (Mark) Weber of Jefferson; a brother, Harold (Goldie) Fouts of Columbus; several nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law, Merle Ziegler of Miamisburg; and a sister-in-law, Betty Clemens of Chicago, Ill.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters Mae Williams and Leona Becker, and a brother, Glen Fouts.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., at Beech Grove Cemetery, Perry County, conducted by Pastor David Cogar.

Friends may call at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Ethel Mills
Died: Saturday, January 25, 2003
Age: 91

STOCKPORT -- Ethel Burt Mills, 91, of Stockport, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Morgan County Care Center in McConnelsville.

Born March 9, 1911, in Stockport, she was the daughter of the late Wesley and Emma Blind Burt.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester E. Mills.

Services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill. Burial will be in Stockport Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Jacki Morris
Died: Saturday, January 25, 2003
Age: 27

ATHENS -- Jacki Morris, 27, of Athens, formerly of West Terre Haute, Ind., died Saturday morning, Jan. 25, 2003, in Athens, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was a librarian at Ohio University.

She was born June 26, 1975, in Terre Haute, to Peter Morris and Judy Farrar Morris.

Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Judy and Eric Dreher of West Terre Haute; two brothers, Peter Morris and his wife, Marcie, of Terre Haute, and Trevor Dreher of West Terre Haute; her grandparents, Charles and Carole Dreher of West Terre Haute; an aunt, Jackie Moore of Terre Haute; two nephews, Anthony Morris and Luke Morris; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1982.

She was a 1993 graduate of West Vigo High School, received a bachelors degree in 1997 and a masters degree in 2002, both from Indiana University, where she consistently maintained her grades to the level of making the deans list. She moved to Athens following graduation from IU in August 2002.

Services will be held Wednesday, 10 a.m., at Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home, with Connie Kramer officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.; and on Wednesday from 7 a.m. until the time of services.

Michael Joseph Nance
Died: Saturday, January 25, 2003
Age: 40

POMEROY -- Michael Joseph Nance, 40, of North Lewisburg, formerly of Meigs County, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, in Marysville.

Born March 24, 1962, in Frankfort, Ind., he was the son of Edna Marie Gilmore Nance of Pomeroy and the late Warren Richard Nance. He also is survived by children Michael Joseph Nance Jr., Natalie Nichole Nance and Robert Justin Nance.

Services will be Thursday, noon, at Fisher Funeral Home, Pomeroy. Burial will be in Bradford Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Sara Louise Paskins Day
Died: Saturday, January 25, 2003
Age: 45

RACINE -- Sara Louise Paskins Day, 45, of Racine, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at her residence.

Born June 8, 1957, in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late James Lewis and Helen Louise Golden Paskins. She is survived by her children, Terry Allen Day II, Stoney Randall Day, Jesse Landis and Dee Dee Landis.

Services will be Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Ewing Funeral Home, Pomeroy.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday one hour prior to services.

James Lee Paulk
Died: Saturday, January 25, 2003
Age: 57

NELSONVILLE -- James Lee Paulk, 57, of Nelsonville, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Doctor's Hospital West of Columbus.

Born July 13, 1945, in Athens County, he was the son of the late Charles and Ruth Allen Paulk.

He is survived by three brothers, Charles Paulk Jr. of Baltimore, Ronald (Debbie) Paulk of Pickerington and Bill (Debbie) Jennice of Lucasville; six sisters, Catherine (Rick) Smith of Coolville, Rose, Carolyn, Bonnie, Marsha and Brenda Paulk; and a special friend, Margaret Taylor of Athens.

Services will be held Tuesday, 1 p.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home in Nelsonville, with the Rev. Mike Thomas officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Mary E. Peacock
Died: Saturday, January 25, 2003
Age: 89

McARTHUR -- Mary E. Peacock, 89, formerly of McArthur, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Huston Nursing Home in Hamden.

Born March 25, 1913, in Wellston, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Sophie Mahle Doyle.

A homemaker, Mrs. Peacock was a member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Zaleski, a charter member of former president of Vinton County Gold Star Mothers, and a graduate of Sts. Peter and Paul High School.

She is survived by a daughter, Sharon K. Patton (Robert) Brotherton of McArthur; a granddaughter, Anna Marie (William Jr.) Lewis of Jackson; a great-granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Lewis; a sister, Catherine (C.P.) O'Neill of Wellston; a brother-in -law, Robert Peacock.

Besides her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Francis M. Peacock, on Aug. 30, 1980; a son, Thomas, who was killed in action in Vietnam; brothers Leo and Charles Doyle; and son-in-law James Patton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Wellston, with Rev. Fr. Donald Maroon officiating. Burial will be in Elk Cemetery.

Friends may call Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Garrett Funeral Home in McArthur, where the rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m.

Alice Paxton
Died: Thursday, January 23, 2003
Age: 94

ATHENS -- Alice Paxton, 94, of Centerville, formerly of St. Clairsville, passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003.

Alice was a former member of Thoburn Methodist Church in St. Clairsville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Paxton, architect; an infant son, Edward; and a grandson, Andrew Kenneth Paxton.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Harry Bumgarner of Waynesville; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Bruce and Aline Paxton of Athens; five grandchildren, Adam Bumgarner, Aaron (Kristi) Bumgarner, Dr. John Telfair Paxton, A. Elizabeth DeGraw and Dr. Julia (Jesus) Pagan; and four great-grandchildren, Eric and Daniel Pagan, and Christina and James DeGraw.

Private services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Children's Hospital Foundation, The Andy Paxton Fund, P.O. Box 16810, Columbus, OH 43272-5117, or to a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are by Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville.
