Amy Marie Russell

Age: 18
GUYSVILLE -- Amy Marie Russell, 18, of Guysville, died unexpectedly early Sunday morning, Jan. 16, 2003.
Born July 22, 1984, in Athens, she was the daughter of William R. and Deborah Johnson Russell. A 2002 graduate of Federal Hocking High School, she was a culinary arts student at Hocking College. She was a member of New Life Assembly of God, a talented pianist, a writer of poetry and a chef, and a Crown Honor Star in Missionetts.
Besides her parents, she is survived by two brothers, Pvt. Timothy Eric Russell in Kuwait and Jonathan William Russell of Guysville; four uncles, the Rev. Dewey Johnson of Tuscaloosa, Ala., the Rev. Dwight Johnson of Westminster, S.C., Paul Russell of Wellsville and David Russell; and an aunt, Dorena Bedi of San Jose, Calif.
She was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, the Rev. Roy and Virginia Johnson, and paternal grandparents Paul and Mona Russell.
Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at New Life Assembly of God, conducted by the Rev. Phil Foster. Burial will be in Wyers Cemetery.

William Searles
Died: Thursday, July 4, 2002
ATHENS -- William Searles, 68, of Athens, died Thursday, July 4, 2002, at his daughter's home in Charles Town, W.Va.
Born Aug. 4, 1933, in Morristown, he was the son of the late George and Iva Bullock Searles. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and served in the Army in the Pacific Theatre. He retired from a New Jersey factory and had formerly lived in Logan. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 71, Charles Town, W.Va.
He is survived by a daughter, Brenda (Kurt) Christensen of Charles Town, W.Va.; five sisters, Nancy, Rosie, Caroline, Connie and Helen; and four brothers, Dwayne, George, Jim and Ray Searles.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Diana Baumann Searles, who died in 1995; a brother, Robert Searles; and an infant brother.
Graveside services will be held today, 1:30 p.m., at Hilltop Cemetery, with Pauline Urbahns officiating. American Legion Post 21 and VFW Post 3477 Honor Guards will hold military rites at the cemetery.
Arrangements are by Jagers and Sons Funeral Home.
Linda Cain
Died: Wednesday, July 3, 2002
Jacksonville -- Linda "Sally" Hook Cain, 51, of Jacksonville, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens.
Born Dec. 4, 1950, in Glouster, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Neta Mays Hook. She was a longtime employee of TS Trim of Athens. She was a member of Jacksonville Eagles 1034 Auxiliary. Sally loved being surrounded by her many friends and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by a son, Eric Cain and friend, Mindy, of Glouster; a daughter, Carey Cain of Glouster; two brothers, Rick (Kathy) Hook of Glouster and Tom (Donna) Hook of San Francisco, Calif.; a sister, Wanda Norrocky of Utica; three granddaughters, Whitnie and Kristen Cain of Glouster, and Cheyanne Holly of Athens; a very special friend, Dave McElfresh of the home; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an aunt and uncle, Jim and Freda Dunlap.
Services will be held Monday,11 a.m., at Cardaras Funeral Home in Glouster, with the Rev. Connie Powers-Faires officiating. Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Perry County.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, from 5 to 9 p.m.
Sarah Kinnison
Died: Wednesday, July 3, 2002
WELLSTON -- Sarah Margaret Kinnison, 81, of Wellston, a former Jackson resident, died Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at Jenkins Memorial Nursing Facility.
Born Sept. 17, 1920, in Wellston, she was the daughter of the late Charles Edward and Sarah Jane Evans Bellomy.
She is survived by a daughter, Sara Schwab.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sanford Kinnison.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, 10 a.m., at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Wellston. There will be no calling hours.

Thomas Williams
Died: Wednesday, July 3, 2002
NELSONVILLE -- Thomas S. Williams, 92, of Nelsonville, died Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at Logan Health Care Center.
Born Dec. 27, 1909, in Jobs, he was the son of the late John and Fannie Bryan Williams. Mr. Williams was a former employee of Columbus and Southern Ohio Electric Co., a partner in the former Betts Cutrate Store in Nelsonville and retired from Nelsonville Home and Savings Association, where he served on the board and was a former board president. He was a 1928 graduate of Nelsonville High School.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lois L. Williams; nieces Martha Fick of Chillicothe and Miriam Gage of Las Vegas, Nev.; a special cousin, Mary Kay Walsh of Worthington; and many special friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah Sue Williams, and brothers Ralph and Lawrence Williams.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at Greenlawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Gary Carlson officiating.

Shirley Dotson
Died: Tuesday, July 2, 2002
NELSONVILLE -- Shirley J. Dotson, 73, of Nelsonville, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at Pine Hills Continuing Care Center, Nelsonville.
Born Sept. 13, 1928, in Nelsonville, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Weede and Beatrice Gethers Hitchings. She was the wife of the late Clyde E. Dotson.
She retired from Wm. Brooks Shoe Co. of Nelsonville.
She is survived by two stepsisters, Anita Wyman of New Hampshire and Mary Jane Jones of Nelsonville; special friends Roger and Biddie Davis of Nelsonville, Opha and Tammy Davis Lawson of Nelsonville, Butch and Janet Davis Sanford of Pennsylvania; godchildren Brittany Davis of Nelsonville, Kelsey Varner of Nelsonville, and Deanna Sanford of Pennsylvania.
She also was preceded in death by her stepfather, James Hitchings.
Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home in Nelsonville. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Wanda Hill
Died: Tuesday, July 2, 2002
STEWART -- Wanda Opal Parsons Hill, 80, of Stewart, died Tuesday, July 2, 2002 at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens.
Born Feb. 20, 1922, in Beebe, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Ruetta Harris Parsons. She was a homemaker and a member of Lathrope Mission in Amesville.
She is survived by her husband, Conrad M. Hill, whom she married March 3, 1941; and three sisters, Lela Butcher of Athens, Mildred Mayle of Zanesville and Ada Croston of Columbus.
Services will be held Saturday, 2:30 p.m., at Cutler Mission, with the Rev. Monty Hurst officiating. Burial will be in Mount Liberty Cemetery.
Friends may call at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill on Friday from 5 to 9 p.m., and at the church on Saturday one hour prior to services.
Roger Linscott
Died: Tuesday, July 2, 2002
AMESVILLE -- Roger Dean Linscott, 66, of Amesville, died Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens.
Born Aug. 18, 1935, in Amesville, he was the son of the late Dow E. and Hazel Anderson Linscott.
He is survived by a son, Norman Linscott; and two daughters, Cathy Wainwright and Carrie Young.
Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill. Burial will be in Hooper Ridge Cemetery near Amesville.

Helen Sniffen
Died: Tuesday, July 2, 2002
NELSONVILLE -- Lt. Commander Helen Jackson Sniffen (USN Ret.), 91, of Bossier City, La., passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2002. She was a remarkable woman who touched many people's lives.
Born on Easter Sunday, April 16, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Robert H. and Hattie Cooley Jackson. She was a 1929 graduate of Nelsonville High School. She attended Ohio Wesleyan University, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She received a bachelors degree in education from Ohio University in 1933. Her teaching career began in the fall of 1933 at Nelsonville High School, where she taught French and English for nine years.
In 1943, she enlisted in the U.S. Navy and attended officers training school at North Hampton, Mass. She served for 19 years as records and administrative officer at the following locations: Cornell University, New York City; Washington, D.C.; Seattle, Wash.; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and San Francisco. She was very proud to have the opportunity to serve her country.
She was honored as a distinguished alumna by the Nelsonville High School Alumni Association on May 28, 1977, and is a contributor to the N.H.S. Alumni Scholarship fund at the Greyhound level.
She was affiliated with the First Presbyterian Church of Nelsonville and the First Christian Church of Woodville, Texas.
She is survived her husband, Max K. Sniffen; niece Sally Jackson Harmony of Nelsonville; nephew F. Robert Jackson of Columbus; grandnieces Susan Harmony and Jane Harmony, both of Nelsonville; great-grandniece Erin Gray of Athens; great-grandnephews Edward Gray of Virginia Beach, Va., and Christopher Gray of Boston, Mass; stepdaughter Jane Lee Atwood of Louisville, Ky.; stepsons William Sniffen of Bossier City, La., Robert Sniffen of San Diego, Calif., and John Sniffen of Richmond, Va.; and cousins Frank G. Cooley of Meeker, Colo., Martha Cooley Sines and Jean Cooley Standall, both of Nelsonville, and William Cooley of Indian Head, Md.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Col. Bennett L. Jackson; and her brothers Erle, Frank and John Jackson.
A memorial service will be held later at First Christian Church of Woodville, Texas. There will be a memorial service and burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery.
