LANGSVILLE -- Sharon Lavon Smith, 55, of Langsville, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at Rocksprings Rehabilitation Center in Pomeroy.
Born Jan. 22, 1947, in Maryanna, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Julius Sr. and Birdie Jenks Johnston.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Smith; and two sons, Curtiss and David Smith.
Services will be held Sunday, at 2 p.m., at McCoy-Moore Funeral Home in Vinton. Burial will be in Salem Center Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Paul Moore
Died: Tuesday, June 25, 2002
LOGAN -- Paul J. Moore, 77, of Logan, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital.
Born July 13, 1924, in Haydenville, he was the son of the late Porter P. and Kathryn Cheshire Moore. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Stewart Moore.
Services will be Saturday, 11 a.m., at Cardaras Funeral Home, Logan. Burial will be on Oak Grove Cemetery.

Merwin Chase
Died: Tuesday, August 28, 2001
ALBANY -- Wayne Merwin Chase, 71, of Maple Wood Road, Albany, died early Tuesday morning, Aug. 28, 2001, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
Born in Chase, Meigs County, on July 5, 1930, he was the son of the late Wayne H. and Thelma Pratt Chase. A graduate of Pomeroy High School, he was a retired auto mechanic and had worked at several Buick and Cadillac auto dealerships in Athens, as well as being a farmer.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Pauline Cooley Chase; a sister, Maxine (Pete) Benson of Mobile, Ala.; a brother, Lavern (Gail) Chase of Shelby; a nephew, Edward Zohnd of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; several beloved brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces- and nephews-in-law.
Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, conducted by Gayman Chambers. Burial will be in Wells Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, from 9 to 11 a.m.
Nora Fischer
Died: Tuesday, August 28, 2001
CHESTERHILL -- Nora Leona Lewis Fischer, 89, of Zanesville, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, in Zanesville.
Born May 11, 1912, in Fleming, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Jessie Milton Lewis.
She is survived by three sons, Everett, Leon and John Fischer Jr.; and two daughters, Betty Sowell and Evelyn Jeanette Ramey.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Fischer.
Services will be held Saturday, 2 p.m., at Mount Hermon Church near Amesville. Burial will be in Mount Hermon Cemetery.
Friends may call at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and at the church on Saturday one hour prior to services.
Ernest Graves
Died: Tuesday, August 28, 2001
RAY -- Ernest Joe Graves, 89, of Ray, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at his residence.
Born Jan. 20, 1912, in Richland Twp., Vinton County, he was the son of the late Eli Jackson and Stella Daisy Sowers Graves.
He is survived by daughters, Shirley Clary and Carol Stone.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Evelyn Ratcliff Graves.
Services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at Garrett Funeral Home in McArthur. Burial will be in Londonderry Cemetery.

Harold Hollingshead
Died: Tuesday, August 28, 2001
WELLSTON -- Harold Ray Hollingshead, 60, of Wellston, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at Jenkins Memorial Nursing Facility in Wellston.
Born Feb. 1, 1941, in Wellston, he was the son of the late Clarence Lawson and Ella Mae Sprouse Hollingshead.
He is survived by a stepdaughter, Shelly Hoover.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Jeanne Hollingshead.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at Zion No. 3 Church in Wellston. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery.

Thomas Kelly
Died: Tuesday, August 28, 2001
COOLVILLE -- Thomas L. Kelly Sr., 62, of Coolville, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at Harmar Nursing Center, Marietta.
Born May 2, 1939, in Middleport, he was the son of the late Marvin and Opal Cornell Kelly. He was a teacher and guidance counselor for 33 years in the Meigs County schools. He developed and implemented Head Start in Meigs County, sat on the Meigs-Vinton-Gallia Mental Health Board, and was a former pastor for eight years at Full Gospel Lighthouse Church in Pomeroy.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Kelly; a daughter and son-in-law, Jenell and Hobart Barker; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Jr. and Angela Kelly; a daughter, Loretta Kelly; a son, Linden Kelly; two grandchildren, Kelly and Alexander Barker; a sister, Ann Bailey; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Curtis and Mary Lou Kelly and Mark and Sandy Kelly; a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Tamara and Richard Williamson; a stepdaughter, Melissa Brownstead; a stepson, Adam Calaway; eight step-grandchildren, Lauren, Shannon, Sam, Hilary, Nick, Kevin, Mike and Shelsey; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Kelly; two infant brothers, Billy and Larry; an infant sister, Loretta; and a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Charles Fick.
Funeral services are Friday at 1 p.m. at White-Moquin Funeral Home, Coolville, with the Rev. R. Roger Hunter officiating. Burial will in Meigs County Memory Gardens.

Paul Stephenson
Died: Tuesday, August 28, 2001
STEWART -- Paul R. Stephenson, 73, of Stewart, died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at Arcadia Nursing Center in Coolville.
Born Sept. 6, 1927, in Glouster, he was the son of the late Hugh and Addie VanDyke Stephenson.
He is survived by three sisters, Harriett Arnold of Heath, Maxine Paulson of West Minster, Calif., and Verdelle Brozak of Stewart; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerald and Robert Stephenson; and a sister, Rebecca Rife.
There will be no funeral or calling hours observed. Arrangements are by Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home in Athens.
James Couch III
Died: Monday, August 27, 2001
ATHENS -- James Fitton Couch III, 54, of Madison, Miss., passed away on Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at St. Dominic's Hospital in Jackson, Miss.
Mr. Couch, a teacher, was from Washington, D.c., and was a longtime resident of Athens.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the Honorable Judge James F. Couch Jr. and Evelyn Brodie Couch.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Plazo Couch of Madison; daughters Allison Dudding-Couch of Chicago and Rachel E. Couch of Madison; and cousins Vance Livingtson Jr. and Anne Moore of Maryland.
The Wake will be held at West End Tavern in Athens on Saturday at 3 p.m., following a memorial service at 12:30 at Unitarian Fellowship of Athens, 184 Longview Heights Road.
Wayne Norman
Died: Monday, August 27, 2001
GLOUSTER -- Wayne I. Norman, 78, of Lancaster, passed away on Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at his residence.
Mr. Norman was former president of Pico Wholesale Co. Inc. of Glouster and co-founder of the O'Bleness Golf Tournament. He was a member of Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons of Trimble, Hocking Hills Shrine Club of Logan, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, Aladdin Temple of Columbus, Supreme Council of Columbus, Nelsonville BPOE 543, Loyal Order of Moose of Logan, and Columbus Maennerchor.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis E. Norman; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Norman; a nephew, Seth (Miya) Norman of Pukalani, Hawaii; nieces Karen McClurg of Indianapolis, Ind., and Lynn (Dennis) Clarke of Lancaster; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Derbyshire; and a brother-in-law, Neil (Sue) Derbyshire Sr. of Lancaster.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Jesse Norman; and a brother, Seth P. Norman.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at Halteman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home in Lancaster, with the Rev. Thomas P. Rogers officiating. Interment will be in Forest Rose Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where Masonic services will be conducted at 8:30.
