Ersel M. Adkins
Died: Monday, December 22, 2003
ALBANY - Ersel M. Adkins, of Albany, went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, Dec. 22, 2003.
Born Aug. 18, 1916, in Mount Vernon, Ky., she was the daughter of the late John and Martha Bullock.
Ersel went to meet her Lord and Savior after serving Him faithfully for 73 years. She attended Bethel Holiness Mission.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney and Judy Adkins of Albany and Oscar and Carol Adkins of Grove City; a sister, Elaine Clarey of Columbus; two brothers, Robert and Geneva Bullock of Texas, Dalmus Bullock and Hester Polling of Fla.; a sister-in-law, Betty Bullock of Columbus; her close and beloved lifelong friend, Nettie Stiles; grandchildren, James and Ann Adkins of Nelsonville, John and Teena Adkins of Albany, Rebecca and Leland Douglas of Athens, Scott and Ruth Adkins of Athens, Debbie Adkins of Chauncey, Daniel Lanning of Columbus and Ramona Lanning of Logan; great-grandchildren, Marissa, Qarnissa, Jacob, Seth, Ashley, Riley, Logan and Kiana.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Jennings Adkins; a son, John W. Adkins; a sister and five brothers.
Services will be Saturday, 1 p.m. at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home in Albany, with the Rev. David Cogar officiating. Burial will be in Hilltop Cemetery, Millfield.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
James C. Kearns
Died: Friday, December 19, 2003
Age: 68
ALBANY - James C. “Red Top” Kearns, age 68, of Albany, died Friday morning, Dec. 19, 2003, at the Veterans Hospital in Chillicothe.
Born May 2, 1935, in Mineral Wells, W.Va., he was the son of the late Theodore Roosevelt Kearns and Violet Shafer Kearns Life and his stepfather, Howard Russell Life.
Mr. Kearns was a foreman in the construction industry. He was a graduate of Olive Orange High School in Tuppers Plains and a longtime Albany resident. He was also a member of K.T. Crossen Post 21 American Legion and the Golden Wings CB Club where he had the CB Handle of “Red Top.” He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed coaching girls’ softball in Athens.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys L. Coen Kearns; daughters, Cheryl (Roger) Van Nest of Athens, Becky Kearns and special friend Ken Riley of Albany and April (Roger) Riley of Albany; sons, James L. Kearns of Albany, Richard Kearns of Carbon Hill and Doug (Amy) Kearns of Macedon, N.Y.; a grandson raised in the home, Curtis Kearns; and 14 grandchildren.
Besides his parents and stepfather, he is preceded in death by a sister, Anna Clark; and a brother, Theodore Kearns.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, 11 a.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home by Pastor Bert Christian with burial in Athens Memory Gardens.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 3 to 8 p.m. with the family in attendance from 6 to 8 p.m. Military Rites will be conducted at the cemetery by American Legion Post 21 and VFW Post 3477 Honor Guards.
Ruth A. Henery
Died: Friday, December 19, 2003
Age: 93
STOCKPORT -- Ruth A. Henery, 93, of Stockport, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at the Morgan County Care Center.
Born Dec. 12, 1910, in Stockport, she was the daughter of Carl A. and Mary Ellis Bundy. She is survived by a son, Clifton L. Bundy, and was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Henery.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 21, at 2 p.m. at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home.
Friends may call Sunday from noon until the service.
Marjorie Elma Dixon
Died: Friday, December 19, 2003
Age: 76
WELLSTON - Marjorie Elma Dixon, 76, of Sour Run Road, Wellston, passed away Friday morning, Dec. 19, 2003, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
She was born April 9, 1927 in Broadwell Gloucestershire, England, to the late Richard White Porter and Harriet Cooper Porter.
Mrs. Dixon is survived by her husband, Voris Dixon; a son, John and daughter, Sharon.
Calling hours are Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Andy Rawlins officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Luella Driggs
Died: Thursday, December 18, 2003
Age: 88
POMEROY - Luella Driggs, 88, of Pomeroy died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis.
Born Feb. 19, 1915, in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur Burton and Mary Barnhart VaNess. She was a homemaker and head cook for the Athens County Children’s Home and a former cook at Nyes Restaurant in Athens.
She is survived by sons Don (Bette) and Larry (Eyvonne) of Tuppers Plains; one daughter, Evangeline Montgomery of Pomeroy; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Driggs and two sons, William Joseph and Ernest Dale Driggs.
Services will be held Tuesday, 1 p.m., at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home in Coolville. Burial will be in the Stewart Cemetery.

Donald Jerrell Rosser

NELSONVILLE - Donald Jerrell Rosser, 73, of Nelsonville died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at Doctors Hospital in Nelsonville.
Born Sept. 19, 1930, in Nelsonville, he was the son of the late Frank M. and Pearl Coleman Rosser.
An auctioneer for more than 30 years, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Nelsonville, attended the Faith Tabernacle of Nelsonville and was former owner of Don’s Outlet of Nelsonville.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty L. Newman Rosser; daughters, Vicki McDonald and Deborah Lax, both of Nelsonville; sons, Tim (Melanie) Rosser of Autryville, N.C., and Todd and Troy Rosser of Nelsonville; grandchildren, Brian, Christina, Heather, Justin, Cody, Aaron, Taranne and Holden; great-grandchildren, Austin and Dillion; a sister, Arlene (Perl) McGathey of Largo, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Belford, Frank “Bake” and Tom Rosser and sisters, Velma Kennard and Marie Coots.
Services will be Monday, 1 p.m., at Warren-Brown Funeral Home, Nelsonville with the Rev. Stacy Evans officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville.

Beatrice Mozelle Gould

Age: 65
NELSONVILLE - Beatrice “Bea” Mozelle Gould, 65, of Nelsonville, passed away Thursday afternoon, Dec. 18, 2003, at the Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus.
Born Oct. 11, 1938, in Athens, she was the daughter of Eleanor Stephens Hawk of Nelsonville and the late Charles William Hawk. She was a 1956 graduate of Rome-Canaan High School and was a registered nurse for 44 years, having received her training at Camden Clark Hospital in Parkersburg and her CDC at Atlanta. She also was a teacher at Tupelo Children’s Mansion in Tupelo, Miss., and a member of Athens United Pentacostal Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Shonda (Michael) Cuilla of Hilliard; a son, Craig (Leslie) Gould of Gainesville, Fla.; grandchildren Rachael McNight of Hilliard, Jeremy Gould of Gainesville, Brett Gould of Amesville and Robin Gould of Gainesville; sisters Debbie (Kenny) Gambill of New Marshfield and Diane Walsh of Portland, Ore.; brothers Charles (Ruth) Hawk of Reedsville and Ronald Hawk of Geneva, Fla.
Funeral services will be Monday, 1 p.m., in Athens United Pentacostal Church conducted by Pastor Bob Morgans and Pastor Monte McCune. Friends may call at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Grace E. Hensler

Age: 99
ALBANY - Grace E. Hensler, 99, of Albany, passed away Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, after an extended illness.
Born July 18, 1904, in Vinton Twp., Vinton County, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Hettie Saxton Canode. She was a homemaker and a member of the Wilkesville Garden Club and the Columbia Chapel Christian Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Millie Ruth (Edward) Coen of Albany; two sons, Dallas Clayton Hensler of Marietta and John Paul (Linda) Hensler of Palm Coast, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas J. Hensler; two brothers, Clarance Canode and Day Canode; a sister, Ellen Lewis; and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Hensler.
Services will be Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Columbia Chapel Christian Church with Willard Love officiating and burial in Castor Cemetery. Friends may call today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church.
AnnaBelle D'Augustine

ATHENS - AnnaBelle D'Augustine, age 75, former resident of Athens, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003 in Delray Beach, Fla., surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
AnnaBelle was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Celia Wald. She is survived by her loving family, including husband Charles DíAugustine, children Jeffery Penson, Al (Ann) Penson and Cindy (Tim) Barker; stepdaughters Lisa D'Augustine and Charlotte D'Augustine.
Local memorial services will be announced.

CHILLICOTHE - Clarence Justice, 57, of Chillicothe, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at Adena Regional Medical Center, Chillicothe.
Born March 24, 1946, in Harrison Twp., Vinton County, he was the son of the late Isaac and Viola Seymour Justice.
