James Harold Richey

STEWART - James Harold Richey, 68, of Stewart, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at his home.
Born June 7, 1935, in Dayton, he was the son of the late James Floyd and Callie Marie Huddle Richey. He was a retired machinist for Schreiber Machine Inc. of Dayton and worked briefly for Advanced Web Corp. of Stewart. James moved to Stewart in 1987, where he purchased and enjoyed operating a farm. He was a member of Athens Church of the Nazarene.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Lou Fletcher Richey, whom he married July 4, 1955; a daughter, Cheryl L. (Larry Burk) Barney of Athens; a son, James M. (Barbara) Richey of Beavercreek; daughters Melissa K. (Patrick) Brunswick of Englewood and Stella (Terry) Deeter of Coolville; a brother, Clarence Richey of Dayton; and grandchildren Ty, Tom Gonzalez, Devin and Alisha Barney of Athens, Jamie, Justin, Shaina and Sara Richey of Beavercreek, Patrick and Callie Brunswick of Englewood, Kayla and Brent Deeter of Coolville.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerold Richey.
Services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Dwight Umbel officiating. Burial will be in Copeland Cemetery, Stewart.

Roy Ellsworth Cunningham

Age: 75
BREMEN - Roy Ellsworth Cunningham, 75, of Bremen, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at Rockmill Rehabilitation Center, Carroll.
Born May 5, 1928, in Carbon Hill, he was the son of the late Walter and Ida S. Coe Cunningham. He was a 1946 graduate of Carbon Hill High School and served with the U.S. Navy 1946-48. He graduated from Rio Grande College in 1952 and obtained a masters degree from Ohio University. He taught at Bremen Elementary School and was principal at Fairfield Union Junior High School from 1955 to 1983.
Mr. Cunningham was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Bremen, where he was a member of the Men’s Mission Group and held various church offices. He was a member of Bremen American Legion, Ohio Principals Association and Fairfield County Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include his children, Michael E. (Brenda) Cunningham of Bremen, Cinda J. Fosnaugh (fiancé Michael Ashbaugh) of Logan and Michelle A. Cunningham of Bremen; grandchildren Daniel E. Fosnaugh of Maryland, Jeffrey R. Fosnaugh of Lancaster, and Timothy R. Cunningham and Michael C. Cunningham, both of Bremen; a sister-in-law, Nina Cunningham of Columbus; many nieces and nephews, lifelong friends and associates.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen L. Cunningham, who passed away in 1991; a son, Timothy Scott Cunningham, in 1958; brothers John, Thomas, William, Chester and Lester Cunningham; and sisters Myrtle Roush, Martha Thompson and Grace Agan.
Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Calvary United Methodist Church, Bremen, with Pastor Ray Sharritts and retired Pastor Frank Frazier officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Bremen.

DUNDAS - Russell Rogers, 64, of Dundas, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at his residence.
Born Sept. 17, 1939, in Catlettsburg, Ky., he was the son of the late Albert J. and Muriel Bishop Rogers. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Faye Case Rogers, and sons Steve Hammond, Jeffery Hammond, Russell Matthew Rogers and Charles D. Rogers.
Services will be Friday, 11 a.m., at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur. Burial will be in Elk Cemetery.

UNION FURNACE - Rita J. Vermillion, 47, of Union Furnace, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at her residence.
She was born May 7, 1956, in Nelsonville.
She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Larry G. Vermillion; daughters Mandy Vermillion and special friend Kevin Kienzle, and Jennifer Vermillion of Union Furnace; her mother, Carolyn J. (Bob Sr.) Wilson of Nelsonville; her father, Bernard North of West Virginia; a brother, Ronald North of Buchtel; a sister, Pamela Schultz of Nelsonville; stepbrothers Jerry (Shirley) Wilson and Bob (Mary) Wilson Jr. of Nelsonville; a stepsister, Sandra (John) King of Nelsonville; several brothers- and sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan, with the Revs. Wendell Vermillion and Harold McConnell officiating. Burial will be in New Fairview Cemetery, Rockbridge.

Harry A. Thornton

Age: 57
MILLFIELD - Harry A. Thornton, 57, of Millfield, passed away Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital, Athens.
He was born Aug. 17, 1946, in Cleveland, the son of Florence Bishop Nichols of Eastlake and the late Richard G. Thornton. He was married to Linda Kasler Thornton of Millfield.
Harry was a retired bus driver from the Athens City School District. He attended Redtown Free Methodist Church.
Harry is survived by a daughter, Lovetta Thornton of Millfield; a brother, Richard (Patricia) Thornton of Carlisle, Pa.; and two sisters, Floetta (Larry) Wilhelm of Eastlake and Dawn Nichols of Pennsylvania.
In addition to his father, Harry is preceded in death by a son, Richard Thornton; a stepfather, Joseph Nichols; and grandparents Harry and Lovetta Thornton.
Funeral services will be Friday, 1 p.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville, with the Rev. Leland Allman officiating. Burial will be in Hilltop Cemetery, Millfield.

BERWYN, Pa. - Mary Stewart Stright of Berwyn, Pa., has died.
She was the wife of Gary R. Stright; the mother of Bonnie, Robin and Stewart Stright; the sister of William K. Stewart Jr. and Barbara K. Stewart DVM; and the stepmother of Dosha and Nichole Stright. She also is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Born Nov. 3, 1935, in Logan, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Ruby Warthman Clark.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene Jacobs Clark; sons Peter, Timothy and Michael Clark; and daughters Janet Thompson and Diane Keyes.
Services will be Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan. Burial will be in Knollwood Cemetery, Logan, with military rites by the Combined Veterans Organizations of Hocking County.

LOGAN - Helen Christine Gasser, 84, of Hilliard, formerly of Logan, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at Mill Run Center, Hilliard.
Born Jan. 24, 1919, in Logan, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Aloysius and Emma Catherine Lecrone Walsh. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Michael Gasser.
Services will be Wednesday, noon, at St. John Catholic Church, Logan. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

CHAUNCEY - Elizabeth K. Willis, 93, of Chauncey, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at Pine Hills Continuing Care Center, Nelsonville.
Born April 14, 1910, in Perry County, she was the daughter of the late John and Susie Bertok Kaszonyi. She was the wife of the late Clarence Willis. She retired from Athens Mental Health Center after 25 years of service. She was a member of Millfield Christian Church and Athens Senior Center.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Clarence and Veda Willis of Baltimore, Ohio; grandsons Eddie (Theresa) Willis and Michael (Randy) Willis, both of Millersport; great-grandchildren Michelle (Steve) Rhodes of Lancaster, Melinda, Mike, Phillip, Jeremy, Seth and Matthew Willis, all of Millersport; and a great-great-grandson, Anthony Willis.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Alex Kaszonyi.
Services will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville, with the Rev. Steve Bentley officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville.
