NELSONVILLE -- Susan Marie Allen, 48, of Nelsonville, died Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at her residence.
Born Aug. 16, 1954, in Zanesville, she was the daughter of Hazel Litchfield Rambo of Burgaw, N.C., and the late Lloyd Allen.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, 1 p.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville. Burial will be in Lutheran Reform Cemetery.

Harold Dean Ramsey

BARTLETT -- Harold Dean Ramsey, 79, of Canal Winchester, died Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at Mount Carmel East Medical Center, Columbus.
Born Dec. 26, 1923, in Bartlett, he was the son of the late John and Lula Mayle Ramsey. He is survived by a daughter, Yvonne Tate, and two stepdaughters, Barbara Smith and Violet Johnson.
Services will be Saturday, 11 a.m., at Bartlett-Bethel Wesleyan Church. Burial will be in Mount Hermon Cemetery.
Friends may call at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home, Chesterhill, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and at the church on Saturday one hour prior to services.
Geoffrey W. Smith

Age: 63
ATHENS -- Geoffrey W. Smith, 63, of Athens, an Ohio University professor emeritus, died Tuesday evening, May 6, 2003, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.
Born Sept. 29, 1939, in Boston, Mass., he was the son of the late Eileen Priest and Roy C. Smith.
In 1957, he graduated valedictorian from Silver Lake Regional High School, Pembroke, Mass. He went on to receive his B.S. degree from Tufts University in 1961, his M.S. degree from the University of Maine in 1964 and his Ph.D. in geological sciences from The Ohio State University in 1969. In June of 1969, he and his family moved to Athens, where he began his 30-year teaching career at Ohio University. In 1974, he received the University Professor Award for outstanding teaching and in 1977 he received the Outstanding Faculty Award. He served as chairman of the Department of Geological Sciences from 1975 to 1980 and was the director of the Master of Science in Environmental Studies from 1984 to 1992. From 1991 through 1995 he and colleagues led expeditions to Greece to conduct field study of the glacial geology of Mount Olympus. This research was funded by the Earthwatch Center for Field Research and the National Geographic Society. He retired from Ohio University in 1999.
Geoffrey is survived by his wife, Marie (Sullo) Smith; daughters and sons-in-law Jennifer and Shannon Carlin of Columbus and Deborah and Andrew Culp of Columbus; grandchildren Christian Geoffrey, Jacob Lee and Ava Marie Carlin and Jackson Geoffrey Culp, Columbus; sisters and brothers-in-law Robin and Anthony Mortillo of Greenport, N.Y., and Jennifer and Carl Merritt of Springfield, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. in Helen Mauck Galbreath Chapel on the Ohio University campus. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Geoffrey W. Smith Undergraduate Scholarship Fund, c/o the Department of Geological Sciences, 316 Clippinger Hall, Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, 45701.

Lilly M. King

WELLSTON -- Lilly M. "Lillian" King, 96, of Wellston, died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at Jenkins Memorial Assisted Living, Wellston.
Born Oct. 18, 1906, in Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late Pearl and Ada Katherine Hunt Downing. She is survived by daughters Jane Chevalier and Kathleen Jeffers; and a son, David King. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert King Sr.; an infant son, Marion King; and another son, Richard King.
Services will be Saturday, 1 p.m., at McWilliams Funeral Home, Wellston, with burial in Ridgewood Cemetery.

Lucille Smith

Age: 82
ATHENS -- Lucille Smith, 82, a longtime resident of Athens, died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at Fairhaven Nursing Home in Birmingham, Ala.
Born Sept. 4, 1920, in The Plains. She graduated from The Plains High School. During her life in Athens, she was an associate of and a buyer for Foster's Department Store. She served as executive director of the Athens County Chapter of The American Red Cross for many years. After her retirement in 1985, she and her husband, Kermit, served for three years with Youth With A Mission International in Kona, Hawaii. She then lived in Sun City Center, Fla., and Boone, N.C., before moving to Birmingham a year ago.
In addition to her parents, Clarence and Forrest MacDonald, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Kermit Smith, also an Athens native; and a sister, Evelyn McGraner of Cambridge.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Darel and Judy Hull of Birmingham; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Ruth Smith of Zionville, N.C.; a grandson, Scott Hull, and wife, Day, of Birmingham; a granddaughter, Christina Hill, and her husband, of Aurora, Ill.; a grandson, Ryan Smith of Zionville; and a great-granddaughter, Stephanie Hull of Birmingham. She has two surviving sisters, Juanita Potts of Athens and LaDonna Sandborn of Canal Winchester.
Friends and family are asked to celebrate Lucy's life through remembrance of the many lives she touched with her kindness, commitment to the community, her many acts of charity and her strong faith in God.
Crystal Lee Jett Vogelsong

LITTLE HOCKING -- Crystal Lee Jett Vogelsong, 40, of Little Hocking, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at Riverside Hospital, Columbus.
Born Jan. 24, 1963, she was the daughter of Arlene Kaye Brown Jett and a special friend, Jerry Plaugher of Little Hocking, and the late Chic Jett.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne Vogelsong; a sister, Jill Jett of Little Hocking; maternal grandmother, Ethel Jett of Valley Fork, W.Va.; father- and mother-in-law, Ronnie and Bernice Vogelsong; two godchildren, Linsey and Anthony Putman; three brothers and sisters-in-law; a niece, five nephews and a multitude of friends.
Crystal was a former co-pastor of Little Hocking Evangelical Methodist Church, a musician and singer for The Jetts trio ministry, co-owner of Ohio Tomato Co., attended Little Hocking Elementary, graduated from Warren High School and attended Marietta Vocational College.
Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home, Coolville, with Pastors Rogers(cq) Burks and Tim Burch officiating. Burial will be in Torch Cemetery.

Venetta L. Bagent

Age: 87
LOGAN -- Venetta L. Bagent, 87, of Logan, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at Logan Health Care Center.
Born March 2, 1916, in New Lexington, she was the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Tracy Savage. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Bagent. She was a member Nelsonville Church of the Nazarene.
She is survived by two sons, John David (Ethel) Bagent of Columbus and James (Arlene) Bagent of Lancaster; three daughters, Bertha (Mickey) Warren of Doanville, Betty (Elden) Stufflebeam-Wolfe of Nelsonville and Mary Louise Blosser of Logan; 35 grandchildren, several great- and great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Florence McNulty of New Lexington.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at Cardaras Funeral Home in Logan with the Rev. James Mathias officiating. Interment will be in Friendship Cemetery, Perry County.

Enlow A. Grubbs

GLOUSTER -- Enlow A. Grubbs, 93, of Mason, formerly of Glouster, died May 5, 2003, at Mason Christian Village in Mason.
He was born June 10, 1909, in Vinton County, son of the late Herbert R. and Lula Kasler Grubbs. He was married to Lucile Keating Grubbs, who survives.
He was former manager for the Rich Loaf Bakery in Glouster and retired from Kittle Lumber Co. in Glouster. He was a member of the Glouster Church of Christ.
He is survived by a son, David Grubbs, and his wife, Eva, of Cincinnati; a daughter, Margaret Smith, and her husband, Robert, of Canal Winchester; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; his brother, Frank Grubbs of Glouster; and his sisters, Mandana Nye of Columbus and Hannabelle Leo of Lancaster.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Nathan and Ira Grubbs; and a sister, Agnes Shafer.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 1 p.m., at Cardaras Funeral Home, Glouster, with Don Seevers officiating. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 11 a.m. until time of the services.

LOGAN -- Timothy Aaron Kirkland, 14, of Logan, died Monday, May 5, 2003, at Children's Hospital, Columbus.
Born June 29, 1988, in Galveston, Texas, he was the son of Robert and Christina Pulling Kirkland of Logan.
Services will be Monday, 1 p.m., at Cardaras Funeral Home, Logan. Cremation will follow.
