Birdie M. Willis

GUYSVILLE -- Birdie M. Willis, 69, a 42-year resident of Guysville, formerly of Parkersburg, W.Va., died Saturday, May 17, 2003, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens.
Born in Wood County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Edward and Pearlie Postlethwaite Owens. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. Mrs. Willis was a member of Lottridge Ohio Senior Citizens Center and an avid bingo player.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Albert L. Willis Jr. of Guysville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn and Debbie Willis of Columbus, Jerry and Veronica Willis of Guysville and Robbie Willis of Guysville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Kenny Luman of Belpre, and Carol and Jake Jackson of Walker, W.Va.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Ellen Louise Willis, three brothers and two sisters.
Services were held today at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Burial was in Sunset Memory Gardens, Parkersburg.
Eddie Boyer
Died: Saturday, May 17, 2003
Age: 75
MIDDLEPORT -- The Rev. Eddie Boyer, 75, of Middleport, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 17, 2003, at his home.
Born March 16, 1928, in New Cumberland, W.Va., he was the son of the late James and Anna Boyer. The Rev. Boyer was a retired boilermaker with 42 years of service. He had pastored at Zion Community Church at The Plains since the early 1960s.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Louise Boyer; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Debbie Boyer of Middleport; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Don McDade of Cheshire; two grandchildren, Brian (Angela) Wamsley of Westerville and Julie (Scott) Short of Gallipolis; three great-grandchildren, Olivia and Mason Wamsley, and Carlin Short; and two stepchildren, Mary Low (Eugene) Hawkins of Middleport and James Smith of Columbus.
Also surviving are seven brothers and five sisters, James (Betty) Boyer of Imperial, Pa., Bill (Carol) Boyer of Steubenville, Harry (Elsie) Boyer of Slovan, Pa., Steve (Gilda) Boyer of Richmond, Charles (Joann) Boyer of Bloomingdale, Pete (Debbie) Boyer of East Liverpool, Kenny (Cathy) Boyer of Burgettstown, Pa., Dorothy (Jack) Brandon of East Springfield, Virginia Lang of East Liverpool, Mary Ann Kukich of Weirton, W.Va., Juanita (Bob) Roush of Toronto, Ohio, and Bonnie Hoberek of East Liverpool; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Tuesday, 1 p.m., at Fisher Funeral Home, Middleport, with the Rev. John Elswick officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 6 to 9 p.m.
Raymond C. Klinebriel
Died: Thursday, May 15, 2003
Age: 55
NELSONVILLE -- Raymond C. "Boomie" Klinebriel, 55, of Nelsonville, passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2003, at his residence.
Born March 6, 1948, in Nelsonville, he was the son of Dee (Glen) Stalder Tharp of Nelsonville and the late Russell G. Klinebriel. He was married to Esther Hawk Klinebriel of Nelsonville. Ray was a precision machinist for Sunpower and a U.S. Vietnam Army veteran.
Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Roger Wharton of Logan; two grandchildren, Jordan and Josie Wharton of Logan; a brother and sister-in-law, Rusty and Helen Klinebriel of Bradenton, Fla.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Carroll and Bob Smart of Nelsonville, Reta and Clyde Lanning of Cape Coral, Fla., and Betty and Doug Kincade of Athens; three stepbrothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Rosemary Tharp of Preston, Ariz., Glen and Christy Tharp of Grove City, Mark and Jean Easter of Chicago, Ill; two stepsisters and brothers-in-law, JoAnne and Ardell Gunsallis of Leesburg, Fla., Linda and Dan Cox of Reynoldsburg; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Kathy Freer, and a cousin, Judd Klinebriel.
Services will be held Monday, 2 p.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville, with Lenzy Forrest, pastor of Connett United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Connett Cemetery, Nelsonville.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Lois Juanita Hull Wren
Died: Thursday, May 15, 2003
Age: 80
ATHENS -- Lois Juanita Hull Wren, 80, died Thursday, May 15, 2003, at her Athens home, surrounded by her family.
Lois was born April 5, 1923, in Philadelphia, Pa., the second child of her parents, Russell and Mary Juanita Hull, now deceased. She grew up in Crooksville with her three sisters and two brothers, and considered herself a native Ohioan. Following her graduation from Crooksville High School, she enrolled at Ohio University in 1940 as an education major. She was a member of Chi Omega and was honored by selection in her junior year as Varsity O Queen. While a student at OU, she met and then married the "love of her life," fellow student Robert M. Wren.
Lois is predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, Bob Wren; an infant daughter, Donna Jean; and her brother, Russell "Bud" Hull.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Larry Adams, and Karen and Dennis Stansfield; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Lana Wren; five grandchildren, Rachel and her husband Dave Lupia of Oldsmar, Fla., Rebecca and her husband James Grady of Clearwater Beach, Fla., Brooke Batchelor of Fort Worth, Texas, and Tyler and Jared Wren of Athens; two great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Gabriel Lupia of Clearwater Beach; sisters, Jean Brooks and Sarah Hull of Fort Myers, Fla., and Helen Young of Coshocton; and a brother, William Hull of Dublin, Ohio.
Lois will be remembered by her family and all who loved her as a woman who embodied the truth that we are, indeed, all "family"; and all who were blessed to be a part of her life had the wonderful experience of feeling the love that she showered upon us all. She will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held Monday, 11 a.m., at Christ Lutheran Church, Mill Street, Athens. Friends may call at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Virginia May Lanning
Died: Thursday, May 15, 2003
Age: 79
CARBON HILL -- Virginia May Lanning, 79, of Carbon Hill, died Thursday, May 15, 2003, at Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville.
Born Aug. 15, 1923, in Pittsburg, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Bertha May Martin Hashman. She attended Buchtel United Methodist Church.
She is survived by sons James "Butch" (Christi) Lanning of Buchtel and Michael (Barbara) Lanning of Lancaster; a daughter, Sharon Williams of Carbon Hill; sisters Ileen Douglas of Buchtel, Myrtle (La Mar) Smith of Norton and Faye (Homer) Trowbridge of Logan; 17 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul N. Lanning, who passed away on April 22, 2001; a grandson, Joshua Michael Wallace; a great-grandson, Cameron T. Williams; two sisters, Aldeen Lanning and Mabel Martin; and brothers Ray "Buddy" Hashman and Earnest Martin.
Services will be held Sunday, 2 p.m., at Warren-Brown Funeral Home, Nelsonville, with Dave Shoemaker officiating. Burial will be in Carbon Hill Cemetery.

Barbara Smart Koon
Died: Wednesday, May 14, 2003
CHAUNCEY -- Barbara Smart Koon of California, a former resident of Chauncey, died Tuesday, May 14, 2003, in Loma Linda, Calif.
Born July 1, 1931, she was the daughter William and Freda Smart.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen Margakokis and Sandra Scott.
Burial was in California.
Patricia Kay Riley

Age: 62
NELSONVILLE -- Patricia Kay Riley, 62, of Cape Coral, Fla., formerly of Nelsonville, died Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at her home.
Born April 17, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Betty Figgins Riley.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by brother, Tim Riley.
She leaves a son, Don Lax; a daughter, Tracey; and seven grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Monday at Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville.
Violet Blackburn
Died: Tuesday, May 13, 2003
Age: 76
RADCLIFF -- Violet Blackburn, 76, of Radcliff, died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at her residence.
Born Sept. 3, 1926, in Vinton County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Vinton and Ruby Bennington Pendleton. She was a housewife.
She is survived by cousins Wanda and Don Stansberry of Canal Winchester, Janet and Jess Coleman of Ashville, Katrina Hutchison of Reynoldsburg and Debra McComas of Albany. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Bob Blackburn, and an infant brother, Arold Gordon Pendleton.
Services were held at the convenience of the family, with Pastor Linda Donahue officiating. Burial was in Radcliff Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home, Albany.
Charles D. Hawk
Died: Tuesday, May 13, 2003
Age: 78
ATHENS -- Charles D. Hawk, 78, of Athens, died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Chillicothe.
Born in Lodi Twp. on Sept., 19, 1924, he was the son of the late Ralph and Nettie Jeffers Hawk. He was a retired truck driver for Kasler Dairy.
He is survived by a daughter, Shirley Kaiser of New Marshfield, and a sister, Anna Olson of Athens. Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Joe Hawk, and a daughter, Mona Martin.
At Mr. Hawk's request, his body was cremated. Arrangements were by Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home, Albany.
