LOGAN -- Mary Ann Hess, 49, of Rockbridge, died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at her residence.
Born June 2, 1953, in Hudson, Wis., she was the daughter of Doris Hergert Ronningen of Frederic, Wis., and the late Albert Ronningen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Eugene Hess.
Services will be Monday, 1 p.m., at Bunker Hill Cemetery, Butler.

Alberta Rose Eiselstein

Age: 70
POMEROY - Alberta Rose Eiselstein, 70, of Pomeroy, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at Riverside Hospital in Columbus.
Born March 14, 1933, in Gallipolis, she was the daughter of the late Lewis Clark and Nettie Hill Clark. She is survived by her husband, James Eiselstein, and a daughter, Beth Howes.
Funeral services are Friday, 1 p.m., at Fisher Funeral Home, Pomeroy. Burial will be in Chester Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 11 a.m. until time of services.

Judith M. Conrad

LOGAN - Judith M. Conrad, 58, of Logan, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at her residence.
Born Sept. 14, 1915, in Nelsonville, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Betty Hammond Guess.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Conrad; two daughters, Pam Crothers and Bonnie Warthman; and a son, Tony Conrad.
There will be no services. Arrangements are by Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan.
Harold L. Croston
Died: Saturday, December 27, 2003
Age: 86
CHESTERHILL - Harold L. Croston, 86, of Chesterhill, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
Born July 2, 1917, in Stewart, he was the son of the late John and Bessie Singer Croston.
He is survived by a son, Roy Mayle.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Letha Rush Croston.
Services will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Mount Hermon Church, Amesville. Burial will be in Mount Hermon Cemetery.
Friends may call at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m., and at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to the service.
Diana Lea Sigler

Age: 23
RUTLAND - Diana Lea Sigler, 23, of Rutland, passed away Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, in Pomeroy.
Born April 12, 1980 in Gallipolis, daughter of Rhonda McGrath of Rutland and the late Michael Lee Sigler.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by two children, Rachel and Thaniel Landers.
Calling hours will be tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. at Birchfield Funeral Home in Rutland. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home and burial will be in Miles Cemetery in Rutland.
Elvena Davidson Downard
Died: Friday, December 26, 2003
Age: 88
ATHENS - Elvena Davidson Downard, 88, of Athens, passed away early Friday morning, Dec. 26, 2003, at Overbrook Center in Middleport, Ohio.
Born in Athens on Nov. 21, 1915, she was the daughter of the late William and Carrie Robinson Davidson.
Elvena was a 1932 graduate of Athens High School and attended Ohio University. She was the owner of Ambassador Laundries and was a member of First Christian Church of Athens, the Athens Garden Club, and Child Conservation League.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon (Max) Schwarzel of Athens; two sons, Michael (Chris) and Jon (Susan), both of Athens; two brothers, Wendell Davidson of Phoenix, Ariz., and Jack (Betty) Davidson of Palm Springs, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Kevin Schwarzel, Jan Schwarzel, Leigh Schwarzel, Allison Downard, Stewart Downard and Carrie Downard, all of Athens, and Bill Whitlatch of Lancaster; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, D.M. Downard in 1981; her grandchildren Erin and Jamie Downard; an infant sister and a brother; and a sister-in-law Ruth Davidson.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, at 1 p.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Steve Brown. Burial will be in West Union Street Cemetery.

Anthony Edward Oskey
Died: Friday, December 26, 2003
Age: 53
GLOUSTER - Anthony “Tony” Edward Oskey, 53, of Glouster, passed away on Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, after an extended illness.
Born Oct. 24, 1950, in Athens, he was the son of the late Edward and Bonnie Jeanne Sayre Oskey. Tony was a 1968 graduate of Glouster High School and attended Ohio University in Athens. He served a 14-year military career in the Air Force and Army and later retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Athens and Glouster, where he was a mail carrier for several years. He was a member of Glouster Lions Club, Trimble Masonic Lodge 557 and Jacksonville Eagles 1034. He was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed collecting baseball card memorabilia, arrowheads and trains. He was a member of the Railroad Model and Historical Society of Southeastern Ohio Inc.
Tony is survived by his wife, Rebecca Shifflet Oskey; a daughter and son-in-law, Brian and Jennifer Oskey Mays of Logan; a daughter, Melissa Ann Oskey; a daughter and son-in-law, Mike and Debra Oskey Pickett of Crawfordsville, Ind.; and a daughter, Toni Lynn Oskey at home. He also is survived by five grandchildren, Morgan, Mason and Mackenzie Mays, and Dominic and Mallory Pickett.
Tony will be sadly missed by a sister and brother-in-law, Paul and Lisa Oskey Sawyer of Grove City; and a brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Pam Oskey of Chino Hills, Calif. His remembrance will remain strong within his several nieces and nephews, aunts, cousins, in-laws, family and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his stepson, Chad Eric Shifflet.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 1 p.m., at Bishopville Church of Christ, Glouster-Bishopville, with the Rev. Donald Hadaway officiating. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Glouster, where military graveside services will be conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit.
Friends may call at Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville, today from 2 to 8 p.m. A Masonic service will be conducted at the funeral home this evening at 7.
Mary Elizabeth Smallwood

Age: 63
ZALESKI - Mary Elizabeth Smallwood, 63, of Zaleski, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at her home.
Born June 7, 1940, in Paintsville, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Richard and Sarah Stapleton Auxier.
She retired from Brooks Shoe Factory in 1999 and was a member of Vinton County Post 5299, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Auxiliary and the Ladies Auxiliary to McArthur’s Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2279.
She is survived by four daughters, Sarah (John) Murphy, Rebecca (Richard) Pettet and Deborah (Jack) Holsinger, all of McArthur, and Doris (Michael) Clary of Ray; two sons, Tim (Rebecca) and Adam, both of Zaleski; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mabel and Rosella; six brothers, Doug, Pete, Russell, Harold and Martin, all of Paintsville, Ky., and Jack of Chillicothe; her 19-year companion, Ray Hartman, and his family, which includes two daughters, Rebecca Lynn (Tom) Steenrod of Nelsonville and Carol Annette (Bob) Booth of Zaleski; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Smallwood, in 1979; a sister, Doris Stewart; a niece, Evelyn Dameron; and two brothers, Clarence and Ray Auxier.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Zaleski United Methodist Church with the Rev. Walt Goble officiating. Burial will be in Madison Twp. Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur, and one hour prior to services at the church Tuesday.
Robert E. Wood
Died: Wednesday, December 24, 2003
Age: 65
GUYSVILLE - Robert E. Wood, 65, husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Dec. 24, 2003, in Tucson, Ariz.
He is survived by his wife, Beate, to whom he was married for 40 years; his children, Bob Jr. of Portland, Ore., Ron of Las Vegas, Nev., and Iris Washburn of Vail, Ariz.; and three grandsons, Chris, Andy and Craig.
Born in Guysville, Woody retired as a master sergeant in Tucson in 1980 after a 24-year career in the Air Force, followed by service with the U.S. Border Patrol. He was active in Builders Lodge 60, Eastern Star Horizon Chapter 69, Scottish Rite, York Rite and the Desert Bluegrass Association, Woody lived for the fellowship and love of his friends and family.
A memorial service was held Sunday at Builders Lodge in Tucson. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a favorite charity will be appreciated.
