AnnaBelle D'Augustine

Age: 76
ATHENS - AnnaBelle D'Augustine, 76, a former resident of Athens, died Dec. 11, 2003, in Delray Beach, Fla., after a courageous battle with cancer.
AnnaBelle is survived by her loving family, including husband, Charles D'Augustine; sister, Pearl (Norman) Epstein; children, Jeff Penson of New Lexington, Al (Ann) Penson of Tallahassee, Fla., and Cindy (Tim) Barker of Dublin, Ohio; stepdaughters, Lisa D'Augustine of Jacksonville, Fla., and Charlotte D'Augustine of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Ali and Jeffrey Penson of Tallahassee, and Cara and Jacob Barker of Dublin; niece, Sheila Fleisher of Tampa, Fla., and Jules Epstein of Boston, Mass.; and many family members and friends whose lives she touched with her warmth and guidance. AnnaBelle loved people, and she was loved by them in return.
AnnaBelle was raised in Miami Beach, Fla., and graduated from University of Florida with a bachelor's degree in health. She then moved to Athens and lived there for 35 years. She raised her family and was active in community service, including the Association for Retarded Citizens, League of Women Voters and Hillel Foundation.
AnnaBelle earned her master's degree in guidance and counseling from Ohio University and became OU's first director of health education. She pioneered controversial programs in birth control education, drug abuse prevention, and nutrition, exercise and weight control. She influenced thousands of students by advocating common sense. Her programs were emulated by other universities.
AnnaBelle served as chairwoman of the OU Administrative Senate and Greek Life Committee for two years, was named Outstanding Administrator in 1982, became an adjunct professor, and was awarded administrator emeritus status upon retirement.
She and Charles retired to Delray Beach, Fla. There, she volunteered for Delray Hospital, Planned Parenthood and the National Council of Jewish Women.
During her final years, AnnaBelle was supported by her wonderful husband Charles, family, and her fantastic hospice staff. In lieu of flowers, she requested that donations be made in her memory to Hospice and Homecare by the Sea, 1531 W. Palmetto Park Road, Boca Raton, FL 33486.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, at 2 p.m., at Hillel Foundation, Ohio University, 21 Mill St., Athens.
Florence Allen Davis Caudill
Died: Tuesday, December 16, 2003
Age: 71
DUNDAS - Florence Allen Davis Caudill, 71, of Dundas died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at her residence.
Born May 3, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Eunice George Davis.
She is survived by her daughter, Eunice Ward, and sons, Carl, Coshel Jerry, Terry, David and Danny Caudill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Coshel Caudill.
Funeral services will be Sunday, 1 p.m., at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur. Burial will be in Elk Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 2 to 8 p.m.
Pauline V. Leach

Age: 71
ATHENS - Pauline “Polly” V. Leach, 71, of Grove City, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at home. She was the daughter of the late Elson and Lucille Bowles and was born Oct. 15, 1932, in Athens.
She was a graduate of Athens High School, a member of Grove City United Methodist Church and the Grove City Kiwanis Club. Polly was a secretary for 10 years in Athens and a homemaker for 43 years. She was the First Lady of the Ohio District of Kiwanis International in 1985-1986. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Dale Leach; four children, Jeffri (Jeffrey) Kinniard of Batavia, Ill., Gregory (Jane) Leach of Peru, Ind., Pamela (Chip) Edgington of Fishers, Ind., and Judith (Robert) Yost of Kennett Square, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; brothers Harry (Shirley) Bowles and Charles Bowles, both of Athens. Family will receive friends Friday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home, 2697 Columbus St., Grove City, where the funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment 1 p.m. Athens Memory Gardens. Bonnie Lee Mayle

CHESTERHILL - Bonnie Lee Mayle, 54, of Chesterhill died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at her residence.
Born June 27, 1949, in Chesterhill, she was the daughter of Marion Mayle, of Chesterhill, and the late Norma Mayle.
She is survived by her husband Robert Mayle, son Matthew Mayle, and daughters Gayla Norris, Tanya Mayle, Trina Kennedy and Paula Norris.
Services will be Friday, 1 p.m. at Stone Matheney Funeral Home, Chestrhill. Burial will be Chesterhill Cemetery.

Ernest E. Bolin
Died: Tuesday, December 16, 2003
Age: 85
CHAUNCEY - Ernest E. Bolin, 85, of Lancaster passed away Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at the home of his son in the presence of his loving family.
Born Aug. 20, 1918, in Chauncey, he was a 1937 graduate of Athens High School. A U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he served as a B24 bomber flight engineer, flying several missions over Germany. He was retired from Timken Roller Bearing.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine; a son, Larry Edward Bolin; and a great-grandson, Jason Bachman. He is survived by his wife, Eloise Shover Bolin; daughter, Carolyn Sue (George) Bachman; sons, Ernest E. (Sharon) Bolin, Steven O. (Pat) Bolin; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Earl (Gertrude) Bolin.
Funeral services will be Friday, 10 a.m., at the Dwayne R. Spence Funeral Home, 650 W. Waterloo St., Canal Winchester. Interment will be Friday, 1 p.m., at the New Marshfield Cemetery.

ATHENS - Audra N. Bretz, 77, of Athens, passed away late Monday afternoon Dec. 15, 2003 at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital.
Born March 13, 1926 in Parkersburg, she was the daughter of the late George and Anna Valentine Cunningham.
She was a telephone operator of 25 years having been employed at Coolville and Athens for the Athens Home Telephone Co. and General Telephone.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Wendell; daughters, Nancy Thomas, of The Plains, and Carol and husband John Herrold, of The Plains; grandchildren, Tammy and husband Kenny Adelsberger, of Albany, Reid Thomas, of Sheridan, Ind., and Bryan and wife Andrea Gibson, of Athens; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Danielle Adelsberger, of Albany; sisters-in-law, Hazel and husband George Boudreau, of Xenia, Juanita Starcher, of Hampton, Va., Carolyn and husband Harold Eichhorn, of Caldwell, and Mary and husband Dick Young, of Greeneville, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews; and long-time friends, Chick Brandeberry, of Coolville and Dorothy and husband Harold Wootton, of Little Hocking.
She was preceded in death by son-in-law Tommy Thomas and brothers Clarence, Willard and Bernard Cunningham.

McARTHUR - Frank Leroy Young, 71, of McArthur, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at Adena Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 29, 1932, in Elk Township, Vinton County, he was the son of the late Lafe E. and Audra Wine Young.
He is survived by his wife Pauline Hartney Young, daughters Pamela Alderman and Teresa Yors and sons Roger and Terry Young.
Funeral services will be Saturday, 11 a.m. at Haller Funeral Home, Chillicothe. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Chillicothe.

Thelma Crum Maynard

Age: 75
CREOLA - Thelma Crum Maynard, 75, of Creola, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, peacefully, at home with her family at her side.
She was born April 9, 1928, in Crum, W.Va. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband John, sons Leslie, Eddie and Ricky Maynard and parents Leonard and Frances Crum.
She attended Otterbein Chapel and Allensville Church of Christ.
She is survived by children John L. (Betty) Maynard, Imogene (John) Scraggs and Chester R. Maynard, all of Creola, and James L. (Bonita) Maynard and Linda Traux, both of Columbus; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother Elza (Julie) Crum, of McArthur; and sister G. Pearl Skeen, of Columbus.
Funeral services will be Friday, 2 p.m., at Locust Grove United Methodist Church with Fred Miller and the Rev. Mike Elkins officiating. Burial will be in Locust Grove Cemetery.

Virgie M. Rollins

Age: 76
MCARTHUR - Virgie M. Rollins, 76, McArthur, passed away early Monday morning Dec. 15, 2003, at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital, Athens.
Born Oct. 18, 1927, in Greenbrier, W.Va., the daughter of the late James Lafferty and Edna Buchanan Lafferty Halsey. She was a housewife and a beloved mother, grandmother and sister. She will be deeply and greatly missed by all.
She is survived by children, Nannie Fleming of McArthur, Jackie (Frank) Whiteman of Spanishburg, W.Va., Ernest (Mary) Rollins of Jacksonville, Fla., Donna Cozort of McArthur, and Herbert (Brenda) Rollins of Kentucky; 28 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Geneva Lyle of Webster, Fla.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Johnathan “Jack” Rollins; a daughter, Edna Jane Rollins; three brothers, James, Orville and DeeDee Lafferty; a sister, Janie Lafferty; a grandson, Vincent White; a granddaughter, Linda Allbaugh; and stepfather Oat Halsey.

Myrl L. Reed
Died: Monday, December 15, 2003
Age: 97
ATHENS - Myrl L. Reed, 97, of Bates Road, Athens, died Monday morning, Dec. 15, 2003, at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital. Born Oct. 30, 1906, in Noble County, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Harrison and Anna Garvin Wickens.
Mrs. Reed was a longtime Athens County resident and a member of the Pleasant Hill Outreach. She was employed in the production of mosaic tile in Zanesville and had been a nurse aide at Sheltering Arms Hospital, Athens.
She is survived by sisters Wanda James, of Cambridge, and Naomi Wickens, of Lowell; niece Jo Ellen James, of Columbus; nephew Dr. Dennis James, Albuquerque; great-nieces Stacie James and Barbara (Kenneth) Knowles; great-nephew Randy (Karen) James; great-great-nephew Simon James; and special friends Bill and Joan Cooley, of Athens.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Thomas Wesley Reed, 1983.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home by Pastor Darrell Clark with burial in Bates Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the Wednesday service.
