David Alan Miller

Age: 59
ATHENS - David Alan Miller, 59, of Athens, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at his residence.
Born June 3, 1944, in Princeton, Ind., he was the son of the late Richard F. and Georgiarose Weber Miller. A graduate of Princeton High School, he received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University. He received a masters degree in Southeast Asia history from Ohio University, and a masters degree in library science from Kent State University.
David was a Southeast Asia cataloguer at Ohio University’s Alden Library for 35 years. He was a member of the Ohio Library Association.
A true Green and White Ohio University athletic team fan, he always enjoyed the Green and White Club luncheons, with several questions for the coaching staff. Forever a Bobcat fan, David said that, when OU and Kent State played each other in whatever sport, he was also happy with the winner.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Barbara Sprague Miller; a daughter, Jennifer Miller of Columbia, S.C.; a brother and his wife, Richard F. Jr. and Nancy Miller of Houston, Texas; nieces Julie (Russell) Engleman and Sara (Gary) Winningham; and a nephew, Eric (Laura) Miller.
Services will be conducted on Saturday, 11 a.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Mary Jo Yeakel officiating. Burial will be in Alexander Memorial Park, Evansville, Ind.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Malachy E. Sullivan
Died: Wednesday, November 26, 2003
Age: 78
BUCHTEL - Malachy E. Sullivan, 78, of Buchtel, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, after an extended battle with lymphomatic myelodysplastic syndrome, with his family and loved ones at his side.
Born June 22, 1925, in Buchtel, he was the son of the late Harry Sullivan and Mary Rife Sullivan-Day. He was a veteran of the Naval Amphibious Forces Pacific in World War II and participated in the liberation of the Philippines, the occupation of China and the Battle of Iwo Jima. He also was a charter member of the World War II Memorial Foundation. He was a member of Buchtel United Methodist Church and Murray City American Legion, and was a retired supervisor for Columbus and Southern Ohio Electric Co.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Thomas Sullivan; a daughter, Vicki (Rev. Earnest) Perkins of Buchtel; a son, Jerry Sullivan of Buchtel; two granddaughters, Tia Anders (Rob) Chubb of Nelsonville and Lisa Pearsall-Myers of Buchtel; five great-grandchildren, Jarich and Brennan Dexter of Nelsonville, Amelia Myers of Buchtel and Chloe and Eli Chubb of Nelsonville; brothers, John L. (Prennie) Sullivan of Buchtel, the Rev. Gordon (Donna) Sullivan of Nelsonville, Frank (Patty) Sullivan of Buchtel and Bob (Joyce) Day of Nelsonville; a sister, Dorothy (George) Young of New Marshfield; an aunt, Evelyn Garner of New Lexington; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Guy Day; brothers, Larry (Betty) Sullivan, James Day and William Day; and a sister, Charlotte (Ernie) Campbell.
Services will be held Sunday, 1 p.m., at Warren-Brown Funeral Home, Nelsonville, with Pastor Dave M. Shoemaker officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn New Addition, Nelsonville, with graveside military services conducted by the Combined Color Guard.
Friends may call at the funeral home today, from 2 to 8 p.m.
The family would like to thank the third-floor nursing and medical staff of Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville and Appalachian Community Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Appalachian Community Hospice.
Patsy M. Slagle

Age: 60
STEWART - Patsy M. Slagle, 60, of Stewart, died Wednesday evening, Nov. 26, 2003, at Selby General Hospital, Marietta.
Born March 19, 1943, in Bakersfield, Calif., she was the daughter of the late Hayes and Mary Goodin.
She is survived by her husband, Ron “Shrimpboat” Slagle; a son, Robert “Buddy” (Holly) Anderson; a daughter, Kimberly (Ron) Terry; and five grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday, 1 p.m., at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens. Entombment will be at Athens Memory Gardens cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home two hours prior to the service on Monday.
Icy Marie Miller
Died: Wednesday, November 26, 2003
Age: 86
SYRACUSE - Icy Marie Miller, 86, of Syracuse, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at Rocksprings Rehabilitation Center, Pomeroy.
Born Feb. 6, 1917, in Clarksburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Susan Burris Roush. She is survived by three children, Robert and Donald Roush and Jackie Miller, and was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Burton Miller.
Services will be Friday, 2 p.m., at Beech Grove Cemetery, Pomeroy.
William Denver Davis
Died: Wednesday, November 26, 2003
Age: 82
MIDDLEPORT - William Denver Davis, 82, of Middleport, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2993, at Overbrook Center, Middleport.
Born Feb. 23, 1921, in Pomeroy, he was the son of the late William C. Davis and Wilma Bowen Spires. He is survived by his wife, Edna Lucille Icenhower Davis, and sons William Jr., Robert Daniel and Charles Edward Davis.
Services will be Sunday, 2 p.m., at Fisher Funeral Home, Middleport. Burial will be in Meigs Memory Gardens.

Brice Chapman
Died: Wednesday, November 26, 2003
Age: 83
ALBANY - Brice Chapman, 83, of Albany, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday morning, Nov. 26, 2003, in the emergency room at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 8, 1920, in Lottridge, he was the son of the late Orin Brice Sr. and Effie Graham Chapman. He was an Army veteran of World War II, retired from McBee Co. with 23 years of service and was a 10-year employee of Hughes Construction Co. He was a member of Albany VFW Post 9893 and the Honor Guard.
He is survived by his wife, Alberta Tippie Chapman; a daughter, Mary Jo Bolin of Albany; a son, David J. (Carolyn) Chapman of Athens; a daughter, Nancy (Dan) Sparks of Columbus; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; brothers Ronald of The Plains and Paul of Athens; and sisters Pauleta(cq) Fuller of Logan, Betty Jean Landis of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Ilene Douglas and Lotus Goldsberry, both of Athens.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William; a sister, Dorothy Wingo; two grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Dwight Bolin.
Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home, Albany, with Pastor Michael Rose officiating. Burial will be in West Union Street Cemetery, Athens, with graveside services conducted by Albany VFW Post 9893.

Phyllis C. Newland
Died: Tuesday, November 25, 2003
Age: 95
TUPPERS PLAINS - Phyllis C. Newland, 95, of Tuppers Plains, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg, W.Va.
Born Feb. 21, 1908, in Meigs County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Sylvia Sayre Cole. She was a member of Tuppers Plains Church of Christ and was a stay-at-home mom and grandma.
She is survived by a son, Dennis (Helen) Newland of Reedsville; two daughters, Nadine (Fritz) Goebel of Reedsville and Marlene (Clyde) Kuhn of Tuppers Plains; nine grandchildren, Cheryl Gumpf, Steve Goebel, Tim Kuhn, Susan Heller, Joe Kuhn, Jeff Goebel, Sarah Wasik, Mike and Pat Newland; and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Creston Newland, in 1986; and three sisters, Helen Bailey, Bernice Bercoe and Kathrine Cole.
Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home, Coolville, with Pastors Larry Brown and Scott Miller officiating. Burial will be in Tuppers Plains Church of Christ Cemetery.

Everett E. Lasure
Died: Tuesday, November 25, 2003
Age: 72
THE PLAINS - Everett E. Lasure, 72, of The Plains, passed away early Tuesday morning, Nov. 25, 2003, at Mount Carmel East Hospital, Columbus.
Born April 9, 1931, in Athens, he was the son of the late Clarence Lewis Sr. and Clella Byrd Lasure. He was a graduate of Athens High School and was retired from General Telephone, where he was an installer.
He was a veteran of the Korean War who served in the Pacific Theatre, and a member of The Plains VFW Post 7174, Chauncey AMVETS, K.T. Crossen American Legion Post 21 and Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Wanda Ball Lasure; sisters Ida (Glenn) Foughty of Columbus, JoAnn (Dean) Hardy of Magnolia, Texas, and Martha (Melvin) Walraven of Columbus; a brother, Richard (Hester) Lasure of Millfield; a special sister-in-law, Donna Misner of Chauncey; sisters-in-law Shirley (Paul) Locke of Lancaster, Faye Bell of Cleveland, Wilma (John) Goodman of Troy, Thelma Lasure of The Plains and Ruth Lasure of Rosenberg, Texas; and a brother-in-law, Buddy (Joan) Bell of Nelsonville.
He was preceded in death by a son, Everett “Ev” E. Lasure; a nephew, Danny Lasure; a sister, Clarice Thomas; and brothers William and Clarence Jr.
Services will be held Saturday, 2 p.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, with Elder Gerald Wade officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by the Combined Honor Guard.

Sally J. Glover
Died: Tuesday, November 25, 2003
Age: 64
ATHENS - Sally J. Glover, 64, of Athens, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 25, 2003, at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital, Athens. She left us to be with the Lord and her husband, Charles “Bob” Glover.
Born Nov. 1, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Eugene J. Hamer and Rachel M. Coots Hamer Stewart. She was a former employee of the Athens County Home, with more than 20 years of service.
She is survived by three daughters, Lorri L. Glover of Athens, Jennifer S. (Edward D.) White of Chauncey, and Diana G. (Larry) Hansen of Athens; four grandchildren, Lynlee and Haylee White, Brannen and Bryson Hansen; and two sisters, Sue A. (Clifford) Lamborn of Massillon and Jennifer K. (David) Fuller of Troy.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Jack Stewart.
Services will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, with Pastor William Hixson officiating. Burial will be in West Union Street Cemetery.
