Age: 95
HAMDEN - Ruth Opal Newman, 95, of Hamden, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at her residence.
Born Aug. 29, 1908, in Coalton, she was the daughter of the late Cass and Gertrude Doles Sowards.
She is survived by sons Bill and Larry Newman, and daughters Betty Norton and Dot Jenkins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Newman; a son, Robert Newman; and a daugher, Margie Kisor.
Services will be Sunday, 2 p.m., at McWilliams Funeral Home, Wellston. Burial will be in Hamden Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Patty M. McCune Shifflet
Died: Monday, November 24, 2003
Age: 55
GLOUSTER - Patty M. McCune Shifflet, 55, of Warner Robins, Ga., formerly of Glouster, passed away on Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at her residence in Georgia.
Born Dec. 22, 1947, in Athens County, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur and Mary Keirns McCune. She was a charter member of the auxiliary of Jacksonville Eagles Aerie 1034 and Centerville Senior Citizens in Georgia.
She is survived by her husband, Wendell Shifflet of Warner Robins, Ga., formerly of Glouster; two sons, Terry and Corey Shifflet, both of Glouster; two daughters, Angela Strock and Annissa Malone, both of Glouster; seven grandchildren, Kyle, Katie and Kaleb Strock, T.J. and Amanda Shifflet, and Stephanie and Kristalyn Malone; brothers Jerry, Roger and Joe McCune, all of Millfield; sisters Marian Reazor of Florida, Bonnie Shifflet of Glouster and Ruth Ann Russell of Millfield; two special Nanna’s girls, Jaime and Megan Dillon; and a special niece, Rochelle Dillon.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Herschel Shifflet, and two sisters, Mary Jane McCune and Wilma Jackson.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m., at Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Glouster.

Matt Faught
Died: Friday, November 28, 2003
Age: 25
WELLSTON - Matt Faught, 25, of Wellston, passed away Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, as the result of an automobile accident.
He was born on Aug. 11, 1978, to Art and Sue Scott Faught of Route 124, Vinton, Ohio.
Matt was a 1996 graduate of Vinton County High School. He was employed at the Chillicothe Correctional Facility and was a volunteer firefighter with the Wilksville Fire Department.
As well as his parents, Matt is survived by his grandmother, Thelma Scott of Marietta; three sisters, Kelly Lauer (Doug Sayers) of Marietta, Kathy Armor (Pete) of Marietta and Andrea Faught of Albany; a niece, Jessica; two nephews, Andy and Brent; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and many, many friends.
Matt was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Arthur L. and Stella M. Faught, and his maternal grandfather, Clyde Scott.
Friends may call Monday from 2 to 8 p.m. at J.P. Rogers Funeral Home, 120 W. Broadway, Wellston.
Services also will be at the funeral home Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. A.B. Maloy officiating. Mount Carmel Cemetery will serve as Matt’s final resting place.
Flossie G. Bush

Age: 80
RACINE - Flossie G. Bush, 80, of Racine, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at Overbrook Center, Middleport.
Born Jan. 12, 1923, in Meigs County, she was the daughter of the late Max and Effie Flo Beaver Manuel. She is survived by her husband, Ernest L. Bush.
Services are Monday, 11 a.m., at Cremeens Funeral Home, Racine. Burial will be in Letart Falls Cemetery.

Riley Bailey
Died: Friday, November 28, 2003
Age: 86
HAMDEN - Riley Bailey, 86, of Hamden, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at Holzer Medical Center of Jackson.
Born Oct. 4, 1917, he was the son of the late Albert and Betty Hensley Bailey. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Endicott Bailey; seven daughters and six sons.
Services will be Monday, noon, at Crossroad United Baptist Church in Columbus. Burial will be in Obetz Cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday, 4 to 8 p.m., at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur, and Monday at the church one hour prior to services.
Julie Locke

Age: 23
ALBANY - Julie Locke, 23, of Albany, passed away Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at Grant Medical Center, Columbus.
She was born Oct. 17, 1980, in Chillicothe, the daughter of Larry W. and Judy A. Vessalo Locke of Albany.
She was a student at Ohio University and a stage manager.
Besides her parents, she is survived by a sister, Holly M. Locke of Albany; Grandma and Grandpa Burchfield; uncles and aunts David and Nancy Locke, JoAnn and Dave Lipsey and Joey and Josie Vessalo; cousins, Amy, Lori, Robby and Adam Locke, Pam Sickles, Mike and Robbie Vessalo, Trevis Lipsey and Bud Riley; the Rowan, Bail, Wolfe and Tedrow families and all her friends.
She was preceded in death by grandparents Julia and Joe Vessalo.
Services will be Monday, 11 a.m., at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home with Pastor Carl Ratliff officiating, and burial will be in Alexander Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m.

McARTHUR - Andrew J. Zimmerman, 79, McArthur, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at Huston Nursing Home, Hamden.
Born June 2, 1924, in Vinton County, he was the son of the late Walter T. and Cora Ward Zimmerman. He is survived by a daughter, Judy McManis.

Mary Lou Smyers

LOGAN - Mary Lou Smyers, 65, of Logan, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at Logan Health Care Center.
Born Dec. 4, 1937, in Perry Twp., Hocking County, she was the daughter of the late Clinton Atwood and Hazel Lattimer Lutz. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold B. Smyers.
Services will be Sunday, 2 p.m., at Roberts Funeral Home, Logan. Burial will be in New Fairview Memorial Gardens.

Willmore D. Goins

AMESVILLE - Willmore D. Goins, 83, of Amesville, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at his residence.
Born April 20, 1920, in Sharpsburg, he was the son of the late Sherman and Olive Mayle Goins. He is survived by his wife, Lorene Stills Goins; a son, Bruce Goins; and five daughters, Donna Ware, Faye Files, Lorraine Jordan, Victoria Newsome and Jane Goins.
Services will be today, 2 p.m., at Olive Chapel Cemetery near Chesterhill. There will be no calling hours.

Harold Coe
Died: Wednesday, November 26, 2003
Age: 71
NEW MARSHFIELD - Harold Coe, 71, of New Marshfield, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital, Athens.
He was born Oct. 25, 1932, in Athens County, the son of the late Carl and Edith (Smith) Coe, and the husband of the late Francis Sapp.
Harold was retired from Ohio University after 29 years as a groundskeeper and attended the Salem non-denominational church. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors.
Harold is survived by a stepdaughter, Margaret Eggleston of Nelsonville; two stepgrandchildren; brothers Carl (Betty) Coe of West Milton and John (Betty) Coe of Lancaster; and sisters Goldie LaFollette of Lancaster, Lucille (Joe) Bentley of Circleville, Maxine (James) Gabbard of Dayton, Edith (Michael) Eads of Lancaster and Connie (Richard) Taylor, of Nelsonville.
In addition to his parents and wife, Harold is preceded in death by his sisters Pauline Smith and Luella Six.
Memorial contributions in Harold’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Suneral services will be held at Monday at 1 p.m. at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville, with the Rev. Roger Lyons officiating. Burial will be in Pratts Fork Cemetery, Pratts Fork.
