John Patrick Walsh
Died: Sunday, March 30, 2003
Age: 87

LOGAN -- John Patrick "Jack" Walsh, 87, of Logan, died Sunday, March 30, 2003, in the emergency room at Hocking Valley Community Hospital, Logan.

Born June 10, 1915, in Logan, he was the son of the late Thomas Aloysius and Emma Catherine Lecrone Walsh.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Wagner Walsh.

Services will be held Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at St. John Catholic Church, Logan. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, with military services conducted by the Combined Veterans of Hocking County.

Friends may call at Roberts Funeral Home, Logan, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:30 p.m., where Christian vigil services will be held at 8:30.

Contributions may be made to the Hocking Valley Community Hospital Foundation, 31480 Chieftain Drive, Suite B, Logan, 43138; or St. John Catholic School Fund, 351 N. Market St., Logan, 43138.

Marsha D. Hansen
Died: Saturday, March 29, 2003
Age: 56

ATHENS -- Marsha D. Hansen, 56, of Sunbury, died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at St. Ann's Hospital, Westerville, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born April 5, 1946, in Youngstown and grew up in Athens. She lived most of her adult life in Westerville and Sunbury.

Marsha was a graduate of Ohio University and a talented artist and interior decorator who treasured her Victorian home. She was an antiques dealer, in partnership with daughter Noelle. Most of all, Marsha was devoted to her family and taught us how to laugh, persevere and live life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. M.K. and Eleanor Fugate.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 34 years, Michael; a daughter, Noelle (Kevin) Reid of Delaware; granddaughters Tayler and Megan Feid; and a brother, Frank (Peggy) Fugate of Columbus.

Contributions to her memory may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 438 E. Wilson Bridge Road, Washington, Ohio 43085.

Arrangements are by Shoedinger Worthington Chapel.

Lawrence Albert Malone
Died: Saturday, March 29, 2003
Age: 82

GLOUSTER -- Lawrence Albert "Dick" Malone, 82, of Glouster, died Sunday, March 29, 2003, in Fitzgerald, Ga.

Born July 8, 1920, in Trimble Twp., Athens County, he was the son of the late Charles Albert and Bertha Russell Malone. He was a retired miner for No. 255 Coal Co. in Glouster, a former employee of New York Central Railroad and the state highway garage, and was owner and operator of Malone's Bait &Tackle in Glouster. He was a member of Glouster Church of Christ, Glouster Masonic Lodge 607 F&AM and the Buckeye State Sheriff's Association.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Anne Louise Kittle Malone; a son, Lawrence (Gerda) Malone of Fitzgerald, Ga.; a daughter, Joyce Malone (John) Dixon of Glouster; a special friend, Frank "Pappy" Uhas of Fitzgerald; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and brothers Paul Malone of Columbus, Bill Malone of Carmichaels, Pa., and Clifford Malone of Glouster.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at Glouster Church of Christ, with David Couch officiating. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Glouster.

Friends may call at Cardaras Funeral Home in Glouster today from 2 to 8 p.m., and at the church on Friday one hour prior to services. Masonic services will be held tonight, 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Florabel Mullins Rupe
Died: Saturday, March 29, 2003
Age: 88

CHAUNCEY -- Florabel "Flo" Mullins Rupe, 88, of Chauncey, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2003, at the residence of her granddaughter.

Born Sept. 6, 1914, in Millfield, she was the daughter of the late Charles V. and Amanda Mabel Stem Hiles. She was the widow of her first husband, James Mullins, and her second husband, Bert Rupe.

She was retired from Goodyear and worked for 18 years at McBee's. She was a member of Chauncey Wesleyan Church.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William B. and Susie Mullins of Chauncey; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by an infant son, James Harlan Mullins; a grandson, Terry Mullins; three brothers, Roy, Benny and Leonard Hiles; and three sisters, Opal Watson, Louise Watson and Edith Matheny.

Services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville, with the Rev. William Hunter officiating. Interment will be in Hilltop Cemetery, Millfield.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Ruth H. Warner Collins
Died: Saturday, March 29, 2003
Age: 80

WELLSTON -- Ruth H. Warner Collins, 80, died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Holzer Medical Center, Jackson.

Born July 25, 1922, in Portsmouth, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Edith Warner.

She is survived by a son, Eddie Collins; and four daughters, Connie Potts, Bonnie Davis, Sharon Jordan and Barbara Fought. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, a daughter, Betty Ann; and a son, Jimmy.

Services will be Wednesday, 1 p.m., at J.P. Rogers Funeral Home, Wellston. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Jack H. Owings
Died: Tuesday, March 25, 2003
Age: 71

LOGAN -- Jack H. Owings, 71, of Logan, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at Logan Health Care Center.

Born Feb. 24, 1932, in Hocking County, he was the son of the late George D. and Margaret Cathryn Hallett Owings.

There will be no services. Arrangements are by Cardaras Funeral Home in Logan.

Arthur S. Whetstone Sr.
Died: Saturday, March 29, 2003
Age: 78

WELLSTON -- Arthur S. Whetstone Sr., 78, of Wellston, died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at his home.

Born Jan. 20, 1925, in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Roy and Mamie Whetstone.

He is survived by his wife, Ona Whetstone; four sons, Sherman, Larry, Gary and Dennis; and one daughter, Gloria Collins.

Funeral services are Tuesday, 2 p.m.,, at J.P. Rogers Funeral Home, Wellston. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Coalton.

Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Chloee Elyzabeth Brigham
Died: Friday, March 28, 2003

LOGAN -- Chloee Elysabeth Brigham, 6 days, of Logan, died Friday, March 28, 2003, at Doctors Hospital West, Columbus.

She was born March 22, 2003, at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster, She was the daughter of Richard J. and April McDaniel Brigham of Logan.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, 1:30 p.m., at Cardaras Funeral Home, Logan. Friends may call Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. until time of services.

John W. Drake
Died: Friday, March 28, 2003
Age: 57

GLOUSTER -- John W. Drake, 57, Glouster, died Friday, March 28, 2003, at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster.

Born April 17, 1945, in Athens County, he was the son of the late Wilbur and Wilma Mills Drake. He is survived by his wife, Lillian Lewis-Drake; stepsons Carl (Minnie) Stamm of Hollister, David (Annette) Stamm of Millfield and Glen (Amy) Stamm of Montana; a stepdaughter, Sue (Oral) Pratt of Arizona; 13 stepgrandchildren; and by sisters Betty (Wayne) Roberts and Janice Dorton of Glouster.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Wilbur Drake Jr., Robert Drake, Donald Drake and Gary Drake.

Services are Monday, 1 p.m., at Brown Funeral Home, Murray City, with the Rev. Jim Brown officiating. Burial will be in Taylor Ridge Cemetery, Glouster.

Calling hours are Monday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the funeral home.
