Geneva Shumate
RUTLAND - Geneva Shumate, 86, of Rutland, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at Pleasant Valley Hospital, Point Pleasant.
She was born July 25, 1914, in Rowan County, Ky., daughter of the late John and Bessie Stigall Fisher.
She is survived by a son, Ivan Shumate; daughters Janet Broadwater and Gloria Johnson; and a stepson, Daniel Stidham. She was preceded in death by a son, Leon Shumate.
Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Birchfield Funeral Home, Rutland. Burial will be in Meigs Memory Gardens, Pomeroy.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 6:30 to 9 p.m., and Saturday one hour prior to services.
Frederick Hudson
POMEROY- Frederick J. Hudson, 67, of 3343 Eakin Rd., Columbus, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, at Arbors West in West Jefferson.
Born Oct. 16, 1933, in Pomeroy, he was the son of Fred and Lurinda McClain Hudson.
He is survived by his mother, Lurinda Hudson; his wife, Martha E. Hudson; two sons, Frederick J. Hudson Jr., and Gilbert Hudson; six daughters, Vicky Lynn Hudson, Lizzy Hudson, Rita Hudson, Lurinda Forester, Melody Forester, and Leigh Ann Hudson.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Hudson.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at 1:30 p.m. at Ewing Funeral Home. Burial will be in Gilmore Cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Florence Warner
SYRACUSE - Florence I. Warner, 77, of 4th Street, Syracuse, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, in the extended care facility at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Pomeroy.
She was born Oct. 26, 1923, in Pomeroy, daughter of the late Price P. and Mary Catherine Wickham Hawk.
She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Morris; and two sons, John and James Warner.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m., at Sutton Cemetery near Racine. Friends may call at Cremeans Funeral Home in Racine today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Everett Patton
NELSONVILLE - Everett N. Patton, 81, of Nelsonville, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Crestview Manor Nursing Home in Lancaster.
He was born April 16, 1919, in Haydenville, son of the late James and Virgia Chandler Patton. He was a retired employee of the shipping department at Kaiser Aluminum and attended Nelsonville Wesleyan Church.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy C. Monk Adams Patton; a stepson, Fred (Lucretia) Adams of Nelsonville; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Jerry (Kay) Llewellyn of Nelsonville; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews James and Charlotte Myers, James and Nancy Monk, Roger Monk, and Robert and Becky Monk, all of Logan, and Michael and Janice Fish of Napoleon, Mich., and Gale and Judy Monk of Nelsonville.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Brady; a great-grandson, Caleb Adams; a sister, Hazel Patton; a sister and brother-in-law, Velma and the Rev. Gale Monk; and a nephew, Donald Monk.
Services will be held Sunday, 2 p.m., at Warren-Brown Funeral home in Nelsonville, with the Rev. Michael Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Connett Cemetery, Athens County.

Ethyn Gross
McARTHUR - Ethyn Micheal Gross, infant son of Michael and Jami East Gross of McArthur, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis.
Ethyn will be missed by maternal grandparents Robert East of Albany, Thomas Arthur of Arizona and Pamela East of Albany; paternal grandparents Linda Thomas of Zaleski and Dennis Gross of Chauncey; maternal great-grandparents Ora Barney of Radcliff, Grace East of Albany, and James and Georgia Cozort of Wellston; and paternal great-grandparents Irvin and Doris Cozort of West Virginia. Ethyn also will be missed by many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by maternal great-grandfathers Earl Barney and Richard East, and paternal great-grandparents Dorothy and George Gross.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Bowen Cemetery, with the Rev. Edward Barney officiating.
Friends may call Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur.
Ethel Argabright
WELLSTON - Ethel L. Argabright, 73, of South Ohio Avenue, Wellston, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Edgewood Manor in Wellston.
She was born Aug. 26, 1927, in Frankfurt, Germany, daughter of the late Maria Mucke and stepdaughter of the late Johann Noll. Mrs. Argabright spent her youth in the towns of Frankfurt and Bernberg, Germany. She met her husband, the late James W. Argabright, while he was serving in the U.S. Army of Occupation in Germany, and the couple married in Frankfurt on Aug. 28, 1948. She was a member of Wellston First Baptist Church, and had worked as a clerk at Perdue's Five and Dime store, and at the election polls, before her six-year battle with bone cancer.
She is survived by five sons and three daughters-in-law, Gerald and Nancy of Chillicothe, John Michael of Waterford, Ronald and Ruth of Mesa, Ariz., Dean of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Brent and Darcie of Bonita Springs, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, Renate, Kathy, Ryan, Seth, David, Rachel, Kyle, Nicole, Matthew and Alicia; and a great-granddaughter, Megan; as well as many lifelong friends and acquaintances in her native Germany and her adopted hometown of Wellston.
Besides her mother, stepfather and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Roderick.
Services will be held Friday, 10 a.m., at McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston, with Pastor Mark Baker officiating. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Myrtle Lebrand
ATHENS - Eleanor Myrtle Lebrand, 84, of Athens, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, in Ironton.
She was born Sept. 13, 1916, in Letart Falls, the daughter of the late Warwick Irwin and Arlie Higgins Greene. She is survived by a daughter, Shirley Gondley.
Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens. Burial will be in Letart Falls Cemetery.

Debbie Stevens
WELLSTON - Debbie June Stevens, 50, of Buckeye Furnace Road in Wellston died at her residence on Monday, Nov. 27, 2000.
She was born June 22, 1950, in Vinton County, daughter of Helen Pittenger of Wellston and the late John "Deb" Pittenger.
Besides her mother, she is survived by her husband, Edward Stevens; and four sons, John, Bobby, Shawn and Todd Stevens.
Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Cornerstone Church in Wellston. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery.

Dale Riddle
LAURELVILLE - Dale W. Riddle, 74, of Laurelville, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at Mount Carmel Medical Center, Columbus.
He was born June 1, 1926, in Vinton County, son of the late Clinton and Elva Thompson Riddle. He was founder of Dale W. Riddle Forest Products and a member of the Hocking County Soil and Water Conservation District, Ohio Forestry Association, and National Hardwood Lumbermen's Association.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, A. Jacquline "Jackie" Riddle; a son, Ernest Lee; brothers Harry, Owen, Billie, Donnie and Bobby; and a sister, Dollie Marie.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene Thompson Riddle; sons Rodney B. (Sharon) Riddle, Craig M. (Suellen) Riddle, and Chris R. (Cindy) Riddle, all of Laurelville; daughters Heidi S. Riddle and Holly M. (Doug) Tatman of Laurelville; grandchildren Gretchen, Blayne, Bree, Bryce, Lyenya, Maigan, Brandon, Shane, Josh, Colin, Ashley and Tyler; four great-grandchildren; brothers Ivan Riddle of Laurelville and Ronnie Riddle of Londonderry; and sisters Thelma Elkins of Laurelville and DonnaBelle Killman of Orange, Texas.
Services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at Wellman Funeral Home in Circleville. Burial will be in Green Summit Cemetery.

Carlos Croston
ATHENS - Carlos "Pete" Croston, 81, of Kurtz St., Athens, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Chillicothe.
He was born July 27, 1919, in Amesville, son of the late Howard and Bessie Brown Croston. He was a retired coal miner and construction worker, a World War II Army veteran, and attended Mount Hermon Church.
He is survived by four sons, James Croston of Albany, William Croston of Chesterhill, David Croston of Athens, and Richard Croston of Shade; two daughters, Margaret Scott and Barbara Williams, both of Akron; and 16 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Norman.
Services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill, with the Rev. Delbert Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hermon Cemetery near Chesterhill.

Bertha Holdren
LOGAN - Bertha Mae Holdren, 89, Logan, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, at Logan Healthcare Center.
She was born Oct. 30, 1911, in Logan, daughter of the late John Elmer and Jennie Dawson Mooney. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Arnold "Buck" Holdren.
Funeral services are Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, Logan. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Bertha Barron
HAMDEN - Bertha Leota Barron, 87, of Hamden, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at her home.
She was born Sept. 11, 1913, in Jackson, daughter of the late James Arthur Leser and Laura Lambert Leser.
She also was preceded in death by her husband, Rothbe Barron. She is survived by schildren John and Roger Barron, Judy Fetherolf and Jane Libby.
Services will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at Hamden United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Hamden Cemetery.
