Harley Hill
CHESTERHILL - Harley Hieskell Hill, 89, of Chesterhill, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Mark Rest Center, McConnelsville.
Born Nov. 26, 1011, in Broadwell, he was the son of the late James and Edda Mayle Hill.
He is survived by his wife, Gretta Mayle Hill; sons Bud and lee; and daughters Donna Stevens, Sheila Stevens and Debbie Hill.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. an Stone-Matheney Funeral Home, Chesterhill, with burial in Chesterhill Cemetery.

Forest Summers
PORTLAND - Forest "Bud" Summers, 79, of Portland, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at his residence.
Born Dec. 13, 1920, in Ivy Dale, W.Va., he was the son of the late Harrison A. and Lola Hester Procious Summers. He is survived by his wife, Adaline Price Summers.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. No calling hours will be observed. Arrangements are by Cremeens Funeral Home, Racine.
Ethyn Gross
McARTHUR - Ethyn Micheal Gross, infant son of Michael and Jami East Gross of McArthur, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis.
Ethyn will be missed by maternal grandparents Robert East of Albany, Thomas Arthur of Arizona and Pamela East of Albany; paternal grandparents Linda Thomas of Zaleski and Dennis Gross of Chauncey; maternal great-grandparents Ora Barney of Radcliff, Grace East of Albany, and James and Georgia Arthur of Wellston; and paternal great-grandparents Irvin and Doris Cozort of West Virginia. Ethyn also will be missed by many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by maternal great-grandfathers Earl Barney and Richard East, and paternal great-grandparents Dorothy and George Gross.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Bowen Cemetery, with the Rev. Edward Barney officiating.
Friends may call Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur.
Erma Rowan
ATHENS- Erma G. Rowan, 93, of Athens, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
Born Aug. 21, 1907, in Nelsonville, she was the daughter of the late Sylvester and Ida Mae Bagley Jones. She was an Ohio University graduate, a former teacher in Nelsonville, and formerly had worked at the Athens State Hospital for 17 years as a licensed practical nurse. She was a member of Christ Community Wesleyan Church and Eastern Star of Athens, Chapter 175.
She is survived by a daughter, Naomi (Harold) Laughlin of Athens; a son, Harold (Phyllis) Rowan of Columbus; four grandchildren, Daniel (Kathleen) Rowan, Michael Rowan, and Teri (Chris) Wheaton, all of Columbus, and Dewey Stephen Laughlin of Athens; four great-grandchildren, Patrick, Mallory and Holly Rowan, and Harley Wheaton, all of Columbus.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold M. Rowan; a grandson, Duane Laughlin; five sisters; and two brothers.
She was a loving mother and loved by all.
Services will be Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at 11 a.m. at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home in Athens, with the Rev. Denver Dodrill officiating. Burial will be in Athens Memory Gardens.

Elizabeth Thomas
GALLIPOLIS - Elizabeth Corinne Thomas, 48, of Gallipolis, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis.
She was born July 21, 1952, in Akron, daughter of Thelma Russell Schroeder and the late James Thomas.
Services will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., at White Funeral Home in Coolville, with the Rev. Dave Cogar officiating. Burial will be in Torch Cemetery.

Donzel Matheny
STEWART - Donzel R. Matheny, 66, of Stewart, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 5, 1934, in Clover, W.Va., he was the son of the late John Clark and Hettie Mae Holland Matheny.
He was a graduate of Rome-Canaan High School and was in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Matheny is survived by his wife, Donna; four daughters, Kathy (Sam) Douglas of Stewart, Vanita (Kenny) Casto of Springfield, Sharon (Chuck) Montgomery of Stewart and Laura (Early) Hill of Albany; two sons, Donzel (Esther) Matheny and David Matheny of Stewart; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bessie Irene Armstrong and June Bock of Parkserburg, and Lucille Salyers of Stewart; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Brooks, Brennie and Charles Matheny.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, with Rev. Frank Hare officiating. Burial will be in New England Cemetery.

Dale Tittle
ATHENS - Dale Tittle, 75, of Athens, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 25, 1924, in Athens County, son of the late Cecil Ray and Gladys Rupe Tittle. He was retired from the postal service in Athens, was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a former prisoner of war.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; a son, Jason Daly of Athens; two grandsons, Cody and Corey Daly of Athens; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Tittle; and six sisters and a brother.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Hilltop Cemetery, with Owen Stotts officiating. Military services also will be conducted at the grave.

Charles Vincent
THE PLAINS - Charles "Vance" Vincent, 77, of The Plains, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens.
He was born June 18, 1923, in Millfield, son of the late Charles L. and Anna Shook Vincent. He was married to Barbara Shook Vincent of The Plains.
He was a disabled World War II Army veteran, graduated from Chauncey-Dover High School, was a life member of Disabled American Veterans, and attended Nelsonville Church of the Nazarene.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Fred Vincent of Athens; two stepsons, Glen Wilson of New Philadelphia, and Randy Matlock of Columbus; a grandson, Shane Vincent of Columbus; two step-grandchildren, Jimmy and Della; three step-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, June Gartin of Columbus, and Joy Roy of Millfield.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Loretta Wilson Vincent; an infant son; and a stepson, Rick Matlock.
Services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home in Nelsonville, with the Rev. Kenneth Donley officiating. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Glouster.

Charles Stanley
NELSONVILLE - Charles Everett Stanley, 62, of Nelsonville, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville.
He was born May 24, 1938, in Athens County, son of the late Richard and Forest Martin Stanley. He was married to Joyce Ann Smith Stanley for 34 years.
He attended Windows of Heaven Church and the Evangelizing for Jesus Worship Center in Guysville, and was a member of the former Murray City Motorcycle Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Charles Robert Stanley, Raymond Lee Stanley, and James Michael Stanley, and two daughters, Cathy Faith Stanley and Carol Haines, all of Nelsonville; seven grandchildren, Ashley, Chuckie, Amanda, Brice, Katie, Timmy and Freda Stanley; two brothers, Dave (Marilyn) Stanley of Nelsonville and George (Cathy) Stanley of Carthage, N.C.; two sisters, Annabelle (John) Henry of Nelsonville and Betty (Tom) Fincher of St. Petersburg, Fla.; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, James Ronk of Alabama.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Tom Stanley.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville, with Pastor Don Miller officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville.

Margaret Buck
THE PLAINS - Margaret A. Buck, 73, of The Plains died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, in Columbus.
She was born April 22, 1927, and was the daughter of the late Jacob and Nellie Koehler.
She is survived by a daughter, Joyce A. Buck; and a son, Larry E. Buck.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Orville E. Buck.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, in Athens. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery.

Wilda Figgins
NELSONVILLE - Wilda C. Figgins of Nelsonville died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Logan Health Care Center in Logan.
She was the daughter of the late William and Amanda Peck Riffle. She was an office manager for Wm. Brooks Shoe Co. for 40 years.
She is survived by a niece, Norma Godenschwager of Nelsonville; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Riffle; and sisters, Bertha Martin, Alma Jayjohn, Dora Skivers, Emma McClurg, Goldie Hiles and Hazel Anders.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, 2 p.m., at Greenlawn Cemetery in Nelsonville, with Pastor Garry Dickerson officiating.
There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by Warren-Brown Funeral Home in Nelsonville.
Wayne Chambers
ROCKBRIDGE - Wayne E. Chambers, 84, of Rockbridge, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster.
He was born Aug. 20, 1916, in Hocking County, son of the late Joseph and Myrtie Stump Chambers.
He is survived by his wife, Elma M. Hoover Chambers; a son, Wayne E. Wood; and a daughter, Valerie Dunetz of Laurelville.
Services will be held Wednesday, 10 a.m., at Laurel Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are by Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home in Logan.
