Violet Carroll
NELSONVILLE - Violet G. Carroll, 77, of Canal Winchester, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at Winchester Place Nursing Center.
She is survived by sons Thomas (Dolores) Carroll of Canal Winchester, and William Carroll of Coshocton; grandchildren Deborah (Dennis) Werner of Coshocton, Wendy (Wes) Underwood of Carroll, and Bryan (Crystal) Carroll of Coshocton; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Hazel Hunley of Canal Winchester; a brother, Donald (Shirley) Fink of Nelsonville; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Carroll, in 1990; her parents, John and Nellie Cheadle Fink; a sister, Marie Vania; and a brother, John Fink.
Friends may contribute to the Alzheimer's Association of Central Ohio, 3380 Tremont Road in Columbus, in Violet's memory.

Terry Tignor
NELSONVILLE - Terry O. Tignor, 82, of Nelsonville, died Friday morning, Dec. 22, 2000, at Kimes Convalescent Center in Athens.
He was born Jan. 11, 1918, in Nelsonville, son of the late Joe and Telonia McClurg Tignor. He joins the love of his life, his best friend - with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage before her passing on March 9, 1999 - his wife, Mary Miller Tignor.
He was a World War II Army veteran serving in the Philippines. He retired from Wm. Brooks Shoe Co. after 45 years, and was custodian at Nelsonville Christian Church for 30 years. He loved the water and enjoyed many years with Mary in their boat at Burr Oak, and summers in Myrtle Beach. Terry and Mary also had a special relationship with best friends Don and Jeanne Shafer, spending 45 years going out to eat Friday nights! He had lived at The Lindley Inn in The Plains for 14 months before moving to Kimes Convalescent Center. He was treated with love and kindness at both places, and will never forget the wonderful staff.
He is survived by a daughter, Lois McDonald, and a wonderful son-in-law, John McDonald of Nelsonville; and a son, Terry Lee of Simi, Calif.; four grandchildren, Doug Tignor of Switzerland, Carla Day of Simi, Kelli Kirkendall of Austin, Texas, and Amy Odenthal of Athens, Texas; eight grandchildren, Jessica, Shawn and Tyler Tignor, Nicole Hillier, Forrest Day, Jared and Justin Kirkendall and Micah Odenthal; a sister, JoEileen Samsa of Wickliffe; a special niece and nephew, Phillis and Curt Peterson of Mentor; and special friends Don and Jeanne Shafer of Nelsonville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; a brother, Bob Tignor; a sister, Lillian Primmer; and a grandson, Joey Tignor.
Friends may call at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home in Nelsonville on Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. At Mr. Tignor's request, there will be no service. Cremation will follow visitation.
Interment of the cremated remains will be held at a later date.
Margaret Ryburn
ATHENS - Margaret Mighell Ryburn, 94, a resident of The Lindley Inn, Athens, formerly of Indian River Estates, Vero Beach, Fla., died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000. She lived a very full and rich life and, until this year, resided in Vero Beach after going to Florida as a bride in 1926.
She was born Sept. 20, 1906, in Aurora, Ill., and was the only child of the late Lee E. and Gertrude E. Mighell.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret (Alexander) Topping of Athens; eight grandchildren, Randice Simon, Alexander Topping and Robert Topping, all of Chicago, Corydon Taylor of Pedricktown, N.J., Tracy Antonsen of Potomac, Md., Todd Estes of Indianapolis, Megan Horton of San Francisco and Ryburn Taylor of Pepper Pike; 23 great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Alexander S. Taylor of Moreland Hills.
Mrs. Ryburn's ashes will be placed in the memorial garden of First Presbyterian Church in Vero Beach. A memorial service will be held in the Gertrude E. Mighell Memorial Chapel of the church on a date to be announced.

Ruthann Plants
MIDDLEPORT - Ruthann Plants, 67, of Middleport, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Mount Carmel Hospital West, Columbus.
She was born Feb. 7, 1933, in Spencer, W.Va., daughter of the late David Perry and Ruth M. Henry Zirkle.
She is survived by a son, Sammie Plants; and daughters Ruthanna Albright, and Leanna Davis.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sammie Plants.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, 2 p.m., at Fisher-Acree Funeral Home in Middleport. There will be no calling hours.
Phyllis Riley
ATHENS - Phyllis Joann Riley, 66, of Salem Road, Athens, died at Doctors Hospital North in Columbus on Monday evening, Dec. 25, 2000.
She was born Sept. 19, 1934, in Athens County, the daughter of the late Edward and Ethel Mae West McKnabb.
She was retired from Ohio University Food Service, where she was a cook supervisor. She was a member of Vore Ridge Community Church, an active member of the American Association of Retired Persons and a former member of the Baker Center Bowling League.
She was a loving and devoted mother of the following surviving children: three daughters, Mary Ellen (Roger) Mitchell of Cutler; Juanita Faye (Kevin) Schilling of Dayton; Letha Ann Simmons and fiancé Wallace Taylor, both of Athens; three sons, James Riley Jr., Edward (Sandra) Riley and Michael (Toni) Riley, all of Athens; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy Landis and Mary Parsons, both of Athens; and a brother, James McNabb of Albany.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Riley, whom she married March 11, 1952; a son, Ronald L. Riley; an infant son and a grandson; and a sister, Sue Ellen Menear.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, the Rev. Carl Radcliff officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Richard Adams Sr.
STEWART - Richard Eugene Adams Sr., 53, of Lancaster, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster.
He was born Feb. 21, 1947, in Parkersburg, W.Va., son of Wanda Kelley Adams of Stewart, and the late Clyde Ashley Adams. He was an aluminum siding installer, and a veteran of the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy; two sons, Richard Adams Jr., and Terry Adams; two stepchildren, four step-grandchildren, a sister, three stepbrothers and two stepsisters.
Besides his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Connie Adams.
Graveside services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at Stewart Cemetery.

Mary Bourne
LOGAN - Mary C. Bourne, 84, of Logan, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Sunbridge Nursing Home in New Lexington. She was born in Boissevain, Va.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry C. Bourne.
Services will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at Turkey Run Mennonite Church in Logan. Burial will be in Fairview Hill Cemetery, Perry County.

Lloyd Anderson
NELSONVILLE - Lloyd Donald Anderson, 64, of Nelsonville, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Hickory Creek Nursing Center, The Plains.
He was born on Sept. 18, 1936, in Laurel Twp., son of the late Ross J. and Carrie Anne Flowers Anderson.
He is survived by daughters Deborah Vetsch and Susan Pearson; and sons Robert Leroy, William Carl, James Bruce, Thomas Bruce, Mark Richard and Gary Anderson.
Graveside services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Laurel Cemetery near Gibisonville.

Linda Murphy
RUSHVILLE - Linda Lou Murphy, 51, of Rushville, formerly of Athens, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at Lancaster Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster.
Born March 17, 1949, in Rome Twp. in Athens County, she was the daughter of Iva Lou Stover Chambers of Heath and the late Charles Chambers. She was employed at Heartland Fairfield Care Center.
Besides her mother, she is survived by her husband, Henry; two sisters, Joan (Brice) Samples of Granville and Carol (Ron) Pierce of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a brother, Gary (Elizabeth) Chambers of Bremen; an aunt and her husband, Naomi (Wesley) Thomas of Shade; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Kathy Tieo of Somerset.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, conducted by Pastor Gary Alton. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery.

Joseph Short
REEDSVILLE - Joseph Short, 83, of Reedsville, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg, W.Va.
Born Nov. 27, 1917, in Hamlin, W.Va., he was the son of the late William "Bill" Thomas Short and Linda Bell Zirkle Short.
He is survived by children Herbert Short, Marcella Sousa, Betty Maynard, Carolyn Sue Mattox and Mary Schmelhaus.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys M. Short.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Fisher-Acree Funeral Home, Pomeroy. Burial will be in Meigs Memorial Gardens, Pomeroy.
Calling hours will be held at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Hugh Rupe
ATHENS - Hugh Laymon Rupe, 88, of Waldo, Fla., formerly of Hurricane, W.Va., died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at his residence.
He is survived by four sons, Laymon, Hugh Darrell, James and John Rupe; and a daughter, Anna Tenney of Athens.
Services will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at Archie Tanner Funeral Home, Route 6, Starke, Fla. Burial will be in Waldo City Cemetery.
Helen Tucker
WELLSTON - Helen Audrey Border Tucker, 92, of South New York Avenue, Wellston, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at Holzer Hospital in Gallipolis.
She was born Jan. 29, 1908, in Athens County, daughter of the late Rebecca Ann Bell and Henry Harrison Border.
She is survived by a daughter, Ceroba Lou Tucker Waldron.
Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at J.P. Rogers Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery.
