Maxwell Ferguson
ATHENS - Maxwell Ferguson, 91, of Athens, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at Kimes Convalescent Center after an extended illness.
Born Oct. 4, 1909 in Greenup, Ky., he was the son of the late Isaac and Bessie Taylor Ferguson.
He attended Rio Grande and was a graduate of Ohio University. He taught and was dean of students at Athens High School for more than 30 years. He formerly owned a Motorist Mutual Insurance agency in Athens. He was a member of Athens First United Methodist Church and Athens Masonic Lodge 25 F&AM.
He is survived by a daughter, Judy Neff of San Jose, Calif.; a son, James (Diane) Ferguson of Athens; six grandchildren, Brad (Catherine) Neff of Columbus, Randy Neff of Westerville, Amy Neff of Knoxville, Tenn., Ashley Ferguson and Eric Ferguson, both of Falls Church, Va., and Sean Ferguson of Athens; a great-granddaughter, Olivia Neff; and a brother, Phillip Ferguson of London.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen, in 1993; and a sister, Eugenia Gardner.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at West Union Street Cemetery, with the Rev. Tom Hanover officiating.

Dorothy Bowman
COOLVILLE - Dorothy Reed Bowman, 86, of Coolville, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at her daughter's residence.
She was born March 8, 1914, daughter of the late John Edward and Grace Rue Brawley. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace Brethren Church, Coolville.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Don Buck of Coolville, and Doris and Richard Sallee of Washington, W.Va.; two daughters, Carolyn Lofty and Betty Ludwig of Newark; two sons and daughters-in-law, Garry and Shirley and John and Mary, all of Little Hocking; a son and girlfriend, Harry and Sandy of Belpre; two sisters, Betty Cup of Johnstown and Iva Nestor of Columbus; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William, and two brothers and two sisters.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at White Funeral Home, Coolville, with the Rev. George Horner officiating. Burial will be in Torch Cemetery.

Donald Seelhorst
ATHENS - Donald Clarence Seelhorst, 77, of Athens, formerly of South Shore, Ky., died at home Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000.
Born Aug. 23, 1923, in Pennsauken Twp., N.J., he was the son of the late Athur Fredrick and Marguerite Coward Seelhorst.
A graduate of McKell High School and Marshall University, he had a long career in public health, working for the Athens and Vinton County health departments and the Ohio Department of Health. He was a member of Athens First United Methodist Church, and found much joy in his family and many friends, nature, target shooting, photography, and reading and writing poetry.
He is survived by wife Elaine Burke Seelhorst of Athens, formerly of Greenup, Ky., with whom he recently celebrated a 49th wedding annivesary; two daughters, Donna (Douglas) Lundeen of North Brunswick, N.J., and Mary (Blake Hayes) Seelhorst of Ypsilanti, Mich.; a son, John Seelhorst of Fayetteville, N.C.; two grandchildren, Joshua Seelhorst and Eva Lundeen; three stepgrandchildren, Rebecca and Ashley Hayes and Natacia Lundeen Hicks; a brother, Arthur (Judy) Seelhorst of South Shore, Ky.; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of Don's life will be held Dec. 30 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Athens First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thomas Hanover officiating and the Rev. James Seelhorst assisting. Arrangements are by Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens.
In lieu of flowers, the fmaily requests donations be made in his name to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 E. 33rd St., Suite 1100, New York, N.Y., 10016.
Charles Watson
WELLSTON - Charles M. Watson, 84, of Wellston, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at Edgewood Manor Nursing Facility.
Born Nov. 3, 1916, in Dundas, he was the son of the late Charles Grover and Naomi Easterling Watson. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He is survived by a daughter, Aleta Dobbins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Mulholand Watson.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at McWilliams Funeral Home, Wellston, with burial in Ridgewood Cemetery and military graveside services by American Legion Post 371.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Charles McKnight
McARTHUR - Charles R. McKnight, 85, of McArthur, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at Four Winds Nursing Facility, Jackson.
Born March 5, 1915, in Vinton County, he was the son of the late William H. and Charity Graves McKnight. He retired in 1979 from Austin Powder Co. after 37 years of service.
He was a 60-year charter member of McArthur Church of the Nazarene. He had a great love for music and was the church pianist for 50 years.
He is survived by his wife, Bertha Townsend McKnight, whom he married Feb. 26, 1937; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Carol McKnight of Wellston; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Mae and Charles Waldron of McArthur; a sister, Lucille Climer of McArthur; three grandchildren, Dana W. (Mike) Eberts of Jackson, Jeff (Shannon) McKnight of Logan and Chad (Kelly) McKnight of Parkersburg, W.Va.; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Vaughn McKnight; brothers Wesley and Roy McKnight; and sisters Sylvia Lee, Mae Loper, Bertha O'Hara, Gertrude Quick and Etta Boring.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at McArthur Church of the Nazarene with the Revs. William Roth and Rodney Kuhn officiating. Burial will be in Elk Cemetery.
Friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur, and Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Charles Huston
McARTHUR - Charles W. Huston, 82, of Canal Winchester, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at Huston Nursing Home, Hamden.
Born July 20, 1918, in McArthur, he was the son of the late Harvey M. and Elma Florence Ellis Huston. He was a bricklayer, retiring from Kenny Huston Construction Co. He also was a coal miner and house-mover. A graduate of Hamden High School, he was a World War II Army veteran and member of the American Legion.
He is survived by sisters Helen Huston of Canal Winchester, Margie Smith of Phoenix and Wanda Bias of Hamden; a brother, Kenny (Mary) Huston of Canal Winchester; and a sister-in-law, Margie Huston of Hamden. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Harvey M., John J. and Max J. Huston Sr., and a sister, Ruth Ann Cummings.
Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur, with the Rev. David McKnight officiating. Burial will be in Elk Cemetery, with military graveside services by Vinton County VFW Post 5299.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from noon to 1:30 p.m.
Blanche Guthrie
COOLVILLE - Blanche Guthrie, 86, of Coolville, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at Arcadia Nursing Center, Coolville.
Born May 27, 1913, she was the daughter of the late John and Cora Rice Lake.
Survivors include three nephews, Ralph Lake of Little Hocking, Paul Lake of Berea and Leland Gillilan of Columbia Station; and three nieces, Helen Kessor of Elyria, Eilene Zacherazy of West Salem and Betty Katzenberg of Glendale, Ariz. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Guthrie; two sisters, Gertrude Gillilan and Lorena Congrove; and two brothers, Howard and Jesse Lake.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at White-Moquin Funeral Home, Coolville, with the Rev. George Horner officiating. Burial will be in the Coolville Cemetery.

Betty Crane
LOGAN - Betty Jean Crane, 67, of Logan, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital.
Born Aug. 8, 1933, in Columbus, she was the daughter of the late David and Maud Miller Gwilym. She is survived by children Robert L. Phillips and Dennis E. Phillips Sr., and stepson Donald Crane Jr.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan, with burial in Knollwood Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Vivian Beckley
ALBANY - Vivian Don Jewell Beckley, 77, of Magnolia Springs, Ala., died Dec. 7, 2000, at a Magnolia Springs hospital.
She was born in Carpenter, Ohio, on Oct. 29, 1923. She was a former resident of Albany and graduated in 1941 from Albany High School. She lived in Ohio until the mid-1950s and was a resident of Alabama since that time. She was a member of Eastern Star Foley Lodge in Magnolia Springs, where she was a past secretary.
Mrs. Beckley was survived by her husband, Ermel Beckley of Athens; a son, Buddy J. Beckley of Magnolia Springs; a brother and sister-in-law, Vinton and Oma Jewell of Wadsworth, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Billy Beckley of Columbus, Ohio; nephews Gary Davis and Bobby Davis; three other nephews; a niece, Carolyn Stiltner; and several cousins in Meigs County.
Her parents, Clint and Eva McVey Jewell, preceded her in death, as did a brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Arlene Davis.
Services were held Dec. 12 at Bayview Funeral Home, Foley, Ala., with burial in Pine Rest Memorial Park.
Duane Amerine
SOUTH BLOOMINGVILLE - Duane W. Amerine, 64, of South Bloomingville, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital.
He was born March 4, 1935, son of the late Clarence and Grace Albright Amerine.
He is survived by his wife, E. Darlene Davis Amerine, and children, Kenny and Brian Amerine and Elizabeth "Beth" Gray. He was preceded in death by a son, James D. Amerine.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur. Burial will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, Vinton County, with military services by Vinton County VFW Post 5299.
Calling hours are Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Alice Moore
LOGAN - Alice Keyes Moore, 85, of Logan, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital.
Born May 4, 1915, in Glouster, she was the daughter of the late Talmadge DeWitt and Blanche Ellis McAfooes. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Moore.
She was a member of Logan First Presbyterian Church, where she was active in the choir. She also was a member of Venus Chapter 76 Order Eastern Star, Social Order of Beauceant, Ladies Oriental Shrine, Royal Arch Widows, White Shrine of Jerusalem and the American Legion auxiliary.
She is survived by grandchildren Randall R. (Rebecca) Keyes, Mrs. Larry (Alicia) Tobias and Chad E. (Beverly) Keyes, all of Logan; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Russell (Betty) Tettemeyer of Logan.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Russell Keyes; a son, Robert Keyes; a grandson, Russell Stanley Keyes; and three brothers, William, Charles and Talmadge McAffoes Jr.
Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Logan First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Larry Hoffman officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
No calling hours will be observed. Arrangements are by Cardaras Funeral Home, Logan.
