Lillie White
Died: Sunday, December 2, 2001
GLOUSTER -- Lillie Juliette White, 84, of Glouster, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, in Knoxville, Tenn.
Born Jan. 10, 1917, in Biloxi, Miss., she was the daughter of the late James Isom and Gertrude J. Agner Ates. She was preceded in death by her husband, David C. White.
She was a member of Glouster United Methodist Church and Glouster Garden Club.
She is survived by two sisters, Anne Jolley of Lenoire City, Tenn., and Marie Franklin of Knoxville; three sisters-in-law, Florence Mason of Wheeling, W.Va., Grace Richards of Fern Park, Fla., and Cora Tucker of Florida.
Services will be held Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Cardaras Funeral Home in Glouster. Interment will be in West Union Street Cemetery, Athens.

Jack Lewis
Died: Saturday, December 1, 2001
NELSONVILLE -- Jack Lewis, 66, of Nelsonville, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at Lancaster Fairfield Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born Dec. 9, 1934, in Nelsonville, he was the son of the late Grover Cleveland and Ada Lillian Traugh Lewis. Mr. Lewis was a retired inspector for Selkirk Metalbestos of Logan.
He is survived by a brother, Wayne E. Lewis of Portland, Ore.; two sisters, Virginia K. Bruce Dearing of Nelsonville and Ruth K. Lewis of Logan; a nephew, three nieces and a great-niece.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Neal Lewis; and two sisters, Sue Lewis and Barbara Lewis.
Private graveside services will be Thursday at Mount Zion Cemetery, Starr Twp., Hocking County, with the Rev. Stephen Gideon officiating. Burial will follow.
Arrangements are by Roberts Funeral Home, Logan. No visitation will be observed at the funeral home.
George Lowery
Died: Saturday, December 1, 2001
HARRISONVILLE -- George D. Lowery, 72, of Harrisonville, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, in Harrisonville.
Born Feb. 13, 1929, in Melcroft, Pa., he was the son of the late George W. and Ida Geary Lowery. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Betty E. Robson Lowery, and a son, Tom Lowery.
Services will be Tuesday, 1 p.m., at Fisher-Acree Funeral Home, Middleport. Burial will be in Wells Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 6 to 9 p.m., and on Tuesday until the time of service.

Glenda Maxwell
Died: Saturday, December 1, 2001
RAY -- Glenda Sue Maxwell, 53, of Ray died unexpectedly Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at Adena Regional Medical Center, Chillcothe.
Born Sept. 19, 1948, in Portsmouth, she was the daughter of Bessie Arthur Liles of Columbus and the late Marvin Liles. She was a homemaker and a 1966 graduate of Waverly High School.
She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Herbert R. Maxwell; a daughter, Annette (John) Remy of Ray; sisters Kay (Bob) Baker and Brenda (John) Hayhurst, both of Columbus, and Freda (John) Downing of Chillicothe; brothers Ron (Marsha) Hinton of Columbus, Gary (Donna) Liles of Texas and Paul (Diane) Murray of Marietta; four grandchildren, Ricky and Wesley Cartwright, Eryn and Johnna Remy; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Tuesday, 11:30 a.m., at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur, with the Rev. James McFadden and Bob Baker officiating. Burial will be in Log Pile Cemetery.

Emmitt Gearheart
Died: Sunday, December 29, 2002
McARTHUR -- Emmitt Gearheart, 74, of McArthur, passed away Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at his residence.
Born April 17, 1927, in Hueysville, Ky., he was the son of the late Bee and Manda Ratliff Gearheart.
He retired after 25 years of service with Conrail. Mr. Gearheart was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Bailey Gearheart; daughters Marsha Gearheart and Melissa (Homer) Mullins, both of McArthur; grandchildren Andrew and Leisha Mullins; six sisters, Bertha Shipman, Hazel Scarberry and Flossie (Norman) Hughes, all of McArthur; Tennie Crisp and Polly (Paul) Taylor of Columbus; and Linda Gearheart of Oak Hill; four brothers, Clyde (Helen) Gearheart, Earl Bud (Ann) Gearheart and Roger (Shirley) Gearheart, all of Columbus; and Kenneth Gorden (Penny) Gearheart of Orient.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Clinton Gearheart.
A funeral service will be held Monday at noon at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur, with Rev. Jerry Griffith Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Elk Cemetery, with military graveside services by Vinton County VFW Post 5299.

James Goines

LOGAN -- James Eric Goines, 33, of Bellevue, Neb., died Friday, Jan. 4, 2001, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital in Logan.
Born Sept. 30, 1968, in Muskogee, Okla., he was the son of the late Floyd Eugene and Donna Lee Fillman Goines.
Services will be held Wednesday, 10 a.m., at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home. Burial will be in Knollwood Cemetery, Logan.

Harold Dixon
Died: Wednesday, January 9, 2002
NELSONVILLE -- Harold E. Dixie Dixon, also known as Daddy Dix, 86, of Nelsonville, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville.
Born Oct. 27, 1915, in New Straitsville, he was the son of the late William Raymond and Nellie Vernon Dixon. He was retired from Poston electric plant, was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, a 1933 graduate of Murray City High School, and a member of Nelsonville Christian Church, the American Legion, the Elks Lodge and Lions Club.
He is survived by a daughter, Dixie Lee Flowers of Nelsonville; grandchildren William Bill Flowers of Nelsonville, Franklin Ross and Pam Flowers of West Liberty, Crystal Caryl and Terry Moose Woltz of Logan, Candee Howard of Elkton, Ky., and LeAmber Flowers of Nelsonville; great-grandchildren Tina Amodio, Ryan Flowers, Zachary Dixon Woltz, Alan Howard, Caiti Flowers, Mindy Howard and Garrison Breeze; great-great-grandchildren Shinea, Chase and William; a cousin, Meta Ackley; and six nephews and a niece.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Maxine Midkiff Dixon, who passed away on Dec. 21, 1999; brothers Stanley, Glen and James Dixon; and sisters Ermel Hedges, Lena Mae O'Riley Martin and Norma Dixon.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, 2 p.m., at Nelsonville Christian Church, with the Rev. Donald R. Davisson officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Ruth Duskey
Died: Tuesday, January 8, 2002
NELSONVILLE -- Ruth L. Duskey, 79, of Nelsonville, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at her residence.
Born May 1, 1922, in Athens County, she was the daughter of the late John and Goldie Carter Duskey.
She is survived by a niece, Betty Pope and family of Nelsonville; nephews Dean Kennard and family of New Marshfield, and David (Paula) Kennard and family of Nelsonville; and special friends Lori Campbell and Ruth Marstiller, both of Nelsonville.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Arthur and Edward Dusky; and a sister, Mary Kennard.
Graveside services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at Connett Cemetery, with the Rev. Lenzy Forrest officiating. There will be no calling hours.

Thereon Johnson
Died: Tuesday, January 8, 2002
RACINE -- Thereon A. Johnson, 87, of Racine, died on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis.
Born Sept. 20, 1914, in Plants, he was the son of the late William Arthur Johnson and Helene Nora Zweifel Johnson. He was a 1938 graduate of Ohio State University and received a bachelor of science degree in horticulture and economics. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. Upon graduation, he returned to Meigs County and managed the family farm for several years. He was a director of Farmers Bank and Savings Co. for 51 years and was executive vice president for 15 years. He was a past master of the former Racine Lodge 461 F&AM, and a 60-year member of Pomeroy-Racine Masonic Lodge 164. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Columbus, Pomeroy Chapter 80 RAM, Bosworth Council 46 R&SM and Ohio Valley Commandery 24 Knights Templar, and a member of Aladdin Temple of Columbus.
He served on Meigs County Soil and Water Conservation Board for 27 years, was a former chairman and member of the Meigs County Planning Commission and a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Pomeroy.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Lew Philson Johnson; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Kay and Kenneth Konicek of Strongsville, and Virginia Ann and Scott Wheeler of Wheelersburg; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald Frederick and Shirley A. Johnson of Portland; grandchildren Bruce and Brian Johnson, Mary Schap, Kathie Janini, Laura Wheeler, Cheryl A. Boyle and Nancy A. O'Connell; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Virginia Carpenter and Naomi Kronenberger.
Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Fisher-Acree Funeral Home in Pomeroy, with the Revs. James Bernacki and Katharin Foster. Burial will be in Letart Falls Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where Masonic services will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. by Pomeroy-Racine Lodge 164.

Ruby Kelley
Died: Tuesday, January 8, 2002
RACINE -- Ruby Kelley, 86, of Racine, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis.
Born Oct. 30, 1915, in Harrisville, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late J. Wade and Lula Jenkins William.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Howard Russell of Racine; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Diane Kennedy of Columbus; two sons, David Kelley of Alaska and Roger Kelley of Kentucky; a sister, Myrtle Shaver of Little Hocking; a brother, Frank Eddy of Little Hocking; and five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson.
Graveside services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at Coolville Cemetery, with Pastor Teresa Waldeck officiating.

Ruth Ball
Died: Monday, January 7, 2002
LOGAN -- Ruth Ball, 71, of Logan, died unexpectedly on Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, in the emergency room at Hocking Valley Community Hospital.
Born April 16, 1930, in New Plymouth, she was the daughter of the late Mode and Minnie L. Johnson Cherry. She was married to Earl Elden Ball, who survives.
Mrs. Ball was a homemaker, a retired assembly worker for Essex Wire in Lancaster with 18 years of service, a volunteer for Monday Creek Twp. Fire Department and a volunteer for the Hocking County Tourism Center.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a brother, Frank D. (Carol) Cherry of Logan; a sister, Catherine (Leonard) Turnbull of Blacklick; sisters-in-law Evelyn (Bob) Auker of Logan and Mae Cherry of New Plymouth; and many nieces and nephews, great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph J. Cherry.
Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Roberts Funeral Home, Logan, with the Rev. Rick L. Bennington officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

WELLSTON -- Ina Marie Floyd, 76, of Park Avenue, Wellston, passed away on Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at Holzer Medical Center in Jackson.
Born Oct. 19, 1925, in Vanetta, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Leslie A. and Myrtle Hudnall.
She is survived by seven sons and four daughters, Dewey Jr. of Ratcliff, Ronnie of Wellston, Mark of Jackson, Paul of Thurman, Danny, Dennis and Jeff of Wellston, Sandy Conley of Enon, Pam Floyd and Irene Craft of Wellston, and Kim Ferree of Sydney; 24 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Phillis Hamilton of Tampa, Fla., Goldie Thompson of South Charleston, W.Va., Launa Hudnall of Cabin Creek, W.Va., and Stella Lovett of Aurora, Ill.; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, Ina was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Floyd Sr.; a great-grandchild; a brother, Clifford Hudnall; and three sisters, Edith Pomeroy, Mae Goodwin and Wanda Murphy.
Services will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., at J.P. Rogers Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery.
