Luster R. West

ATHENS - Luster R. “Westy” West, 86, of Chillicothe, formerly of Vinton County, died Sunday, July 6, 2003, at 8:15 p.m., at Heartland of Chillicothe, following an extended illness.
Born Oct. 14, 1916, in Vinton County, he was the son of the late William and Hazel Goodin West. On Sept. 12, 1942, he married the former Deloris C. Clark, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Lee (Joyce) West of Athens; a daughter, Becky (Arlan) Humble of Elm Grove; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Raymond (Clara) West of Chillicothe; sisters Mary E. Watson of Lattaville, Betty Leach of Dayton and Nellie (Bob) Stumbo of Bidwell; and several nieces and nephews.
Luster was predeceased by a granddaughter, a great-grandson and a brother, Lewis West.
Mr. West was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and received the Purple Heart in the European Campaign.
He attended First United Methodist Church and retired in 1972 from the Engineering Department of Chillicothe Veterans Administration Medical Center, where he had worked for 27 1/2 years. He was a member of Scioto Lodge No. 6 F&AM and DAV Chapter 18.
Services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at Ware Funeral Home, Chillicothe, with the Rev. Raymond Welch officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m., where Masonic services will be held at 7.

POMEROY - Margaret C. Murray, 83, of Pomeroy, died at her residence on Saturday, July 5, 2003.
Born July 6, 1919, in Long Bottom, she was the daughter of the late Hiram Austin and Wilhelmina Deafenbaugh Hensley. She was a 1938 graduate of Chester High School, was a homemaker and attended Bradford Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Murray; a grandson, Ed Simms; brothers, Dana, Charles, George and John Hensley; sisters, Anna Liter and Iva Carpenter.
She is survived by daughters, Anna Louise (Ronald Eugene) Russell of Tyler, Texas, Charlotte Ruth (Wilbur H. Jr.) Rowley of Ironton and Minada Mae (Jack) Simms of Gallipolis; a son, Charles Otho (Debie Jo) Murray of Albany; grandchildren, Julia Kautt, Jared Allen Russell, Jill White, Abe Russell, Jennifer Russell, Michael Rowley, Angie Kittel, Roderick Rowley, Natalie Fooce, Alicia Pinkerton, Brent Simms, Mary Ellen Sementilli and David Murray; 35 grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday, 11 a.m., at Fishers Funeral Home, Pomeroy, with Minister Art Marcum officiating. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Pomeroy.

WELLSTON - Valerie A. Jonas died Saturday, July 5, 2003, at Holzer Medical Center in Jackson.
Born July 27, 1955, in Hamden, she was the daughter of Danny and HellenEvans Davis. She is survived by a son, James Jr.; and daughters, Tracy, Kimberly and Lisa. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Jonas Sr., and a daughter, Teresa.
Services will be Tuesday 11 a.m., at J.P. Rogers Funeral Home, Wellston. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery.

Marjorie Mae Branscomb

WELLSTON - Marjorie Mae Branscomb, 86, a former resident of Wellston, died Saturday, July 5, 2003, at the home of a granddaughter.
Born April 19, 1917, in Wellston, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Bertah Wray West.
She is survived by children Naomi Ruth Armstrong, Everett Edmund Taylor Branscomb, James William Branscomb and Barbara Fern Hale. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Everett Taylor Branscomb; an infant son; and a daughter, Janice Elizabeth Venham.
Services will be Tuesday, 2 p.m., at McWilliams Funeral Home, Wellston. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery.

McARTHUR - Roy Rogers Stevens II, 35, of McArthur, died Saturday, July 5, 2003, at his residence.
Born Dec. 24, 1967, in Columbus, he was the son of Roy Rogers Stevens of Oregon City, Ore., and Paula Sherman Stevens of Columbus.
The body was cremated. There will be no calling hours or funeral services. Arrangements are by Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur.

GLOUSTER - Jeffrey Allen Mills, 21, of Glouster, passed away on Saturday July 5, 2003, in Perry County.
Born June 7, 1982, in Hocking County, he was the son of Holly and Kim Keirns of Glouster and the late John “Jack” Mills. He was a 2001 graduate of Trimble High School.
He is survived by a son, Ryan Mills of Clearwater, Fla.; three sisters, Jennifer Keirns and special friend, Casey Christa, of Glouster, Andrea (Tony) Perez of Germantown, Md., and Melissa (Bill) Delaney of Vass, N.C.; grandparents, Jan and Diana Angle of Glouster, Jim and Ruth Ann Keirns of Glouster, Judy Perine of Jacksonville and Jack Mills of Columbus; great-grandparents, Dorothy Andrachick of Glouster and Lynn Brannon of Fortland, Mo.; a niece and nephew, Nicole and Tyler Delaney of Vass, N.C.; two aunts, April Spradlin of Lakeland, Fla., and Debra (Bob) Lowery of Glouster; an uncle, John (Addie) Keirns of McConnelsville; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Mills; two uncles, Aaron Angle of Glouster and Jim Keirns of McConnelsville; a special aunt, Janet Fierce of Glouster.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., at the old Bishopville Church of Christ, Glouster, with John Wright officiating. Burial will be in Glouster Cemetery.

NELSONVILLE - Jean Dodd, 79, of Williston, Fla., formerly of Nelsonville, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2003, at Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville.
Born June 22, 1924, in Moxahala, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Benjamin and Rose Ramsey Bruce.
She is survived by sons William N. (Beth) Dodd Jr. of Nelsonville, Daniel Lee Dodd of Buchtel, Jerry L. (Linda) Dodd of Columbus, Ga., John Thomas Dodd and James P. (Debbie) Dodd of Williston; daughters, Keta (Roger) Warren of Nelsonville and Karen (Jim) Stewart of Williston; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Tommy Joe (Rita) Bruce of Nelsonville; and a sister, Joyce James of Athens.
Besides her parents, shew as preceded in death by twin son and daughter, Linda and Larry Dodd; her husband, William Neal Dodd, who passed away in 1999; and brothers, Jack and Jim Bruce.
The homemaker was a member of Church of the Latter Day Saints, Williston.

Born Aug. 2, 1927, in Harveyslake, Pa., he was preceded in death by his father, Elwood Emmanuel Oney and his mother, Bertha Eunice Crispell Oney, and his wife, Ellen Mae Curtiss Oney.

GALLIPOLIS - Betty Maxine Ellis, 77, of Palm Bay, Fla., formerly of Gallipolis, died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at Mariner Health of Melbourne, Fla., after an extended illness.
She was born Dec. 22, 1925, in The Plains, daughter of the late Noah Linscott Hill and Fern Brandenburg Hill. Betty was a secretary for West Virginia Mallable Iron in Point Pleasant, W.Va.
Betty married Ray C. Ellis on Sept. 9, 1950, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 1988.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Craig A. and Debbie Ellis of Palm Bay; two grandchildren, Lisa and Chris; a sister, Charlotte Pedigo of The Plains; and a brother, Robert Hill of Mansfield.
Services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Willis Funeral Home, Gallipolis, with the Rev. Alfred Holley officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Hill Cemetery.

ATHENS - Evelyn Alverta Moore, 91, formerly of Athens, passed away late Saturday evening, July 26, 2003, at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital.
Born in Conemaugh, Pa., on Sept. 22, 1911, she was the daughter of the late William and Scotia Mitchell Miller. She was a registered nurse, having been employed at Sheltering Arms Hospital and Hudson Health Center. She was a graduate of St. Thomas Nursing School.
She is survived by a son, David Moore of Hockingport; a grandson, Christopher Moore of Fort Sill, Okla.; a sister, Nellie Sheridan-Walhalia of South Carolina; and a brother, Larry Miller of Cleveland.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Earl Moore, and a sister, Irene.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, conducted by Msgr. Patrick Gaughan.

NEW STRAITSVILLE - Angela S. Chaffin, 44, of New Straitsville, died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at her residence.
Born Oct. 4, 1958, in Nelsonville, she was the daughter of John A. Roberts of New Straitsville and the late Sandy L. Barnes Roberts.
Besides her father, she is survived by her husband of 24 years, Danny A. Chaffin; a son, Jeremiah Roberts; a daughter, Christina Dawn Chaffin of New Straitsville; paternal grandmother, Wanda C. Roberts Sanborn of Logan; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her mother, she was preceded in death by brothers Max Allen Roberts and John James Roberts, who passed away on July 24, 2003; several aunts and uncles, including her mother’s twin sister, Audrey Barnes.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan, with the Rev. Roger Fidler officiating.
