LOGAN - James V. Shaw Jr., 75, of Columbus, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003, in Westerville.
Born July 14, 1928, in Hocking County, he was the son of the late James V. and Mildred Van Curen Shaw. He is survived by a son, Gregory W. Shaw, and a daughter, Debra Lynn Reid.
Services will be Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 5 to 8 p.m., and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Deborah Lynn Ringwalt

LOGAN - Deborah Lynn Ringwalt, 45, of Logan, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003, at her residence.
Born July 16, 1958, in Columbus, she was the daughter of Verna Marcum Jarrell of Logan and the late John Jarrell. She is survived by her husband, Max Ringwalt.

POMEROY - Wayne Doyle Beal, 79, of Pomeroy, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003, at Russell Nursing home, Albany.
Born April 8, 1924, in Meigs County, he was the son of the late William Garth and Roma Mahalia Stanley Bean. He is survived by children Yvonne Young, Sandra Bailey, Linda Well, Karla Fox and Denise Davis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janeth Melvina Patten Beal.
Services will be Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Ewing Funeral Home, Pomeroy. Burial will be in Carleton Church Cemetery.

Charles Junior Weiss
Died: Saturday, August 16, 2003
Age: 80
ALBANY - Charles Junior “Chuck” Weiss, 80, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2003, at his home in Fort Pierce, Fla.
Born Aug. 20, 1922, in Athens County, he was the son of the late Charles and Grace Weiss. He was a graduate of Albany High School and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Carpenters Local 95 and retired as superintendent of Albert M. Higley Construction Co. in Cleveland, where he worked for 40 years.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Juanita Lucille Huddleston Weiss of the home; three sisters, Lydia M. Sycks of Akron, Marie French and Kitty Valenti of Medina; and two brothers, Dwight of Athens and Karl of Solon.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Byron, who lived in Palm Coast, Fla.; and Verl, who was killed in action in Frence during World War II.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date, with burial in Alexander Cemetery.
Paul Eugene Dialey
Died: Friday, August 15, 2003
Age: 60
ATHENS - Paul Eugene Dailey, 60, of Gallipolis, formerly of Athens, died early Friday evening, Aug. 15, 2003.
Born in Athens on April 6, 1943, he was son of the late Milford and Betty Thompson Dailey. A 1961 graduate of Athens High School, he was a cement mason. He was a veteran of the Army and a member of Athens AMVETS Post 76.
He is survived by two sisters, Ada (Chad) Sayre of Albany and Carol (Will) Gambill of New Marshfield; a brother, James (Karen) Dailey of Albany; and special friends John Paul Holley, Carolyn Merry, Bonnie Fugett and Jackie Hall, all of Gallipolis, and John and Louise Rogaski of Athens.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William Dailey.
Funeral services will be Monday, 2:30 p.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, conducted by Pastor Alfred Holley. Burial will be in Clarks Chapel Cemetery, where Athens VFW Post 3477 and American Legion K.T. Crossen Post 21 will conduct military rites.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday two hours prior to the service.

Born May 5, 1937, in Hocking County, she was the daughter of the late Vernon and Mary Leonard Eby. She is survived by her husband, Leroy Z. Morrison.

Born Jan. 5, 1953, in Columbus, he was the son of James Willard Sr. and Joann Conkey Wright of Columbus.

McARTHUR - Arvie G. Fairchild, 85, of McArthur, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at her residence.
Born July 20, 1918, in Paintsville, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Sanford and Julie Conley Spradlin.
She is survived by children Julie Crum, Sara Brown, Edna Faye Hayes, Edith Collins, Mary Clark, Wilma Mathews, and Gordon, Charles James, Shannon and Donald Fairfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy W. Fairchild.

NELSONVILLE - Richard L. McGathey, 69, of Nelsonville, passed away on Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital after an extended illness.
Born Jan. 6, 1934, in Hocking County, he was the son of the late Pearl and Thelma Pauline Miller McGathey. He was married to Judy Windle McGathey of Nelsonville.
He was retired from General Motors, Mansfield Plant, as a tool and die machinist.
In addition to his wife, Judy, he is survived by two sons, Paul (Faith) McGathey of Mansfield and Steven (Tammy) McGathey of Nelsonville; two daughters, Sue Ball of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Gail Hasty of Columbia, S.C.; five grandchildren, Jason, Daniel, Laura and Robin McGathey, and Rhett Hasty; and five brothers, Pearl (Arlene) McGathey of Florida, Bob McGathey of Mansfield, Don McGathey of Nelsonville, Bill (Barb) McGathey of Florida and Wayne (Jay) McGathey of Florida.
Services will be held Tuesday, 1 p.m., at Cardaras Funeral Home, Logan, with the Rev. Filmore Ashcraft officiating. Interment will be in New Fairview Memorial Gardens, Rockbridge.

ATHENS - Hattie L. Swartz, 83, of Athens, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, at Russell’s Nursing Home, Albany.
Born Jan. 5, 1920, in The Plains, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Madgie Robinson Smith. She worked many years for Kimes Convalescent Center, was a former employee of Southern Hotel in Columbus and a foster grandparent. She had many best friends.
She is survived by two daughters, Charlotte (Gene) Estep of Athens and Eileen Rhoades of Athens; 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; a half sister, Joan Hollandsworth of Groveport; and many nieces and nieces.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, George Perry and Ores Swartz, and two grandchildren, Cecilia Rhoades and Joshua Estep.
Services will be held Monday, 11 a.m., at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, with Jim Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, The Plans.

WELLSTON - Dorcil “Doy” Gene Osborne of Wellston died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, at Holzer Hospital, Gallipolis.
Born April 17, 1934, in Valley Fork, W.Va., he was the son of the late Mack and Rebecca Osborne. He was a retired Navy veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Dixie Woodruff Osborne; a daughter, Pam Perkins; and two sons, Steve and Brendt Osborne. He was preceded in death by a son, Walter “Punkin” Osborne.
Services will be Sunday, 1 p.m., at J.P. Rogers Funeral Home, Wellston. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery.

Born Dec. 4, 1924, in Chester, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Katherine Fell Young.
She is survived by children Howard Searles, Terry McGuire, Patsy Randee, Cheryl Morris, Connie Hudson, Lynne Arms, Recka Elder and Ragena McGuire. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin W. McGuire Sr.; a daughter, Malena McGuire; and sons, Marvin W. McGuire Jr. and Richard McGuire.
Services will be Friday, 1 p.m., at Ewing Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.

GUYSVILLE - Geraldine Merrill Gaston, 73, of Guysville, was called home late Tuesday evening, Aug. 19, 2003, at Camden-Clark Hospital, Parkersburg, W.Va.
Born March 2, 1930, in Erbacon, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Alva and Lillian Snyder Wilson. She had lived in the Guysville area most of her life and was a member of Kilvert Church of God.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Gaston of Athens; daughters, Louise (Harold) Pennington of Marysville, Elma (Harold) Castle of Guysville, Twyla (Terry) Nogrady of Chauncey, Jonetta (Jeff) Niggemeyer of Guysville and Kathy Fryar of Guysville; a son, Dr. Frank (Vicki) Merrill of Russell Springs, Ky.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sisters Jane Barker and Carroll (Paul) Koval, both of Wooster; brothers Charles Wilson of Wooster, John (Elizabeth) Wilson of West Palm Beach, Fla., Omar (Mary Ann) Wilson of Smithville and Randall (Jean) Wilson of Pomeroy; a sister-in-law, Pat Wilson of Stewart; a brother-in-law, John Groves of Dalton; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years, John Merrill, in 1992; a sister, Ellen Groves; brothers, Donald and Elbert Wilson; and a nephew, Dawayne Wilson.
Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, conducted by Dr. Frank Merrill. Burial will be in Athens Memory Gardens.
