NELSONVILLE - Helen M. Swyers, 91, of Parrish, Fla., formerly of Nelsonville, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at her residence.
Born Dec. 25, 1911, in Jobs, she was the daughter of the late Warden and Bessie Saylor Rummer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo C. Swyers.
Services will be held Sunday, 1 p.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, New Addition.

Glenn Leland Wilson

LAURELVILLE - Glenn Leland Wilson, 85, of Laurelville, died Tuesday, Aug, 19, 2003, in Logan.
Born April 28, 1918, in Gibisonville, he was the son of the late Frank and Lucy E. Quillen Wilson. He is survived by a son, William B. Moder.

Reffett C. Helen

McARTHUR - Helen C. Reffett, 77, of McArthur, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at her residence.
Born June 30, 1926, in Indianapolis, Ind., she was the daughter of the late William O. Coburn and Havanna Frasure Coburn Winkle.
She was a homemaker, a former employee of Fruehauf, Lake Hope and Hocking Technical College, a member of McArthur United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Sereno Chapter 128 OES, Vinton County VFW Post 5299 auxiliary, and FOE Aerie 2279 auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ralph Wayne Reffett; daughters Sandra (Carl) Ruhelman of Cincinnati, Shevawn (Barry) McLin of Wellston and Selena Pittman of McArthur; a son, Bruce (Dawn) Reffett of Logan; nine grandchildren, Deanna (Donald) Kegley of Loveland, Tony DeMarco of Cincinnati, Kylie (Keith) Collins of McArthur, Stephanie and Christopher McLin of Wellston, Charles Pittman of McArthur, Jessie and Autumn Reffett of Logan and Nicholas Pittman of McArthur; and two great-grandchildren, Trevor DeMarco and Deidre Kegley.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Reffett; a brother, Forest Coburn; and a son-in-law, Frank Pittman.
Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur, with the Revs. Walter Goble and Ernest Lucas Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Elk Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., where Eastern Star services will be held at 7, VFW auxiliary services at 7:30 and Eagles auxiliary services at 7:45.
Rebecca M. Richards-Cox

LOGAN - Rebecca M. Richards-Cox, 33, of Lancaster, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, in Lancaster.
Born Nov. 12, 1969, in Columbus, she was the daughter of the late John S. and Ellen M. Lambert Richards. She is survived by her husband, Timothy M. Cox.
Services will be Thursday, 10 a.m., at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan. Burial will be in Shaw Cemetery.

Encile Thomas Dowler
Died: Monday, August 18, 2003
Age: 77
ALBANY - Encile Thomas Dowler, 77, of Albany, passed away on Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville.
Born Oct. 14, 1925, in Haydenville, he was the son of the late Amos L. and Mary Pidcock Dowler.
He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Don Bailey of Guysville; a daughter, Kim Hartley of Athens; three grandchildren, Jessie, Scott and Duel Stout; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Betty Barns of Guysville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepbrother, Robert Stilwell, and an infant brother and sister.
At Encile’s request, his body was cremated. A memorial celebration of his life will be held Sunday, 1 p.m., at the home of his nephew, Ray Bailey, 10911 Route 691, Athens. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Born July 14, 1928, in Hocking County, he was the son of the late James V. and Mildred Van Curen Shaw. He is survived by a son, Gregory W. Shaw, and a daughter, Debra Lynn Reid.

Born April 8, 1924, in Meigs County, he was the son of the late William Garth and Roma Mahalia Stanley Bean. He is survived by children Yvonne Young, Sandra Bailey, Linda Well, Karla Fox and Denise Davis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janeth Melvina Patten Beal.
Services will be Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Ewing Funeral Home, Pomeroy. Burial will be in Carleton Church Cemetery.

Kossuth C. Dowler
Died: Thursday, September 18, 2003
Age: 91
CHAUNCEY - Kossuth “Koss” C. Dowler, 91, of Chauncey, died Thursday morning, Sept. 18, 2003, at Jenkins Nursing Center, Wellston, after an extended illness.
Born Jan. 29, 1912, in New Marshfield, he was the son of the late Eugene and Rose Pidcock Dowler. Mr. Dowler was a coal miner in Chauncey Mine for 25 years, and a machinist for Abex Corp. for 20 years. He was a longtime resident of Jacobs Avenue in Chauncey and attended Chauncey-Dover Schools. He was an avid fisherman and a member of United Mine Workers of America.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in the European Theater. Mr. Dowler was attached to the 99th Division Co. 393rd and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded three Bronze Stars.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary E. Slisher Dowler; two daughters, Cindy (Don) Martin of Rutland and Brenda (Phil) Erwin of Pageville; a special nephew, Jerry Dowler of Chauncey; three grandchildren, Dawn (Dustin) Burden of Newark, Philip (Tracy Weir) Erwin and Timothy (Sue McGee) Erwin of Pageville; and two great-grandchildren, Megan Hicks and Bethany Burden.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Flossie Galbreath, Garnet Wolfe and Faye Wiseman, and brothers Emmett, Luster and Charles Ansil Dowler.
Services will be held Sunday, 1 p.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens. Burial will be in Athens Memory Gardens, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 21 and VFW Post 3477 Honor Guards.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Eleanor J. Jordan Logan

Age: 78
POMEROY - Eleanor J. Jordan Logan, 78, of Pomeroy, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, at Pleasant Valley Hospital, Point Pleasant.
Born Aug. 18, 1925, in Gallipolis, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Florence Vance Jordan. She is survived by her husband, Howard Logan, and a son, Ronald Logan.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by Fisher Funeral Home, Pomeroy.
