MIDDLEPORT - Dorothy June Davis, 82, of Middleport, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2003, at Overbrook Center, Middleport.
Born June 15, 1921, in Middleport, she was the daughter of the late David and Bertha Genheimer Darst.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Davis, and is survived by a son, Wayne Davis.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Fisher Funeral Home, Middleport, with burial in Beech Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

William Kelley
Died: Friday, October 24, 2003
Age: 62
GUYSVILLE - William “Tom” Kelley, 62, of Guysville, died at his home early Friday morning, Oct. 24, 2003.
Born in Dodridge County, W.Va., on Dec. 5, 1940, he was the son of the late Patrick and Gertrude Marie Putman Kelley. He was formerly employed Belpre-Pioneer Casting.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Lucille King Kelley; three daughters, Dea Forrider and special friends Charles Conrad and Blake Forrider, Glenda (Jerry) St. Clair of Seffner, Fla., and Kathy (Michael) Klinglesmith of Guysville; two sons, William Willie (Melinda) Kelley of Delphi, Ind., and Roy Kelley of Guysville; nine grandchildren; a sister, Nancy (Jerry) Jackson of Guysville; and a brother; James Kelley of New Marshfield.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Donald Dean Kelley.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, conducted by Pastor Kenny Kelley, with burial in Shade Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the funeral home to help with expenses.
James Thomas

Age: 61
BUCHTEL - James Thomas, 61, of Buchtel died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at his residence.
Born Dec. 20, 1941, in Athens County, he was the son of the late Cecil and Phyllis Clark Thomas. He is survived by his wife, Janie Stump Thomas of Buchtel.
Services will be Tuesday, 1 p.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville. Burial will be in Asbury Cemetery.

James Johnson
Died: Saturday, October 18, 2003
Age: 82
WELLSTON - James Johnson, 82, of Columbia, Tenn., formerly of Wellston, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at his home.
Born Nov. 12, 1920, in Portsmouth, he was the son of the late James W. and Elizabeth Francis Custer Johnson. He was a Marine veteran of World War II.
He is survived by a son, Jim Johnson; a daughter, Barbara Smith; a stepson, Paul Robinette; and stepdaughters Sue Dodson and Judy Robinette.
Services will be Friday, 1 p.m., at Ridgewood Cemetery, Wellston. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by McWilliams Funeral Home, Wellston.

Nellie May Jaynes

Age: 102
ATHENS - Nellie May Jaynes, 102, of St. Petersburg, Fla., Athens and New Lexington, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, at Palms of Pasadena Hospital, South Pasadena, Fla.
Nellie was born Aug. 6, 1901, in Perry County, daughter of the late Burt and Florence “Doe” Starner King. She worked at Ludowici-Celadon during World War II. She and her husband, Charles, also lived in Shawnee where he owned the Big 6 Coal Mine.
She was an honorary member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and a member of Eastern Star and Higley Study Circle in Athens. She ran a boarding house for Ohio University students and subsequently owned Jaynes Furniture Store in Athens.
Surviving are four grandchildren, G. Charles Ray of Atlanta, Ga., Pamela Ray of St. Petersburg, John Kuntz of Conyers, Ga., and Debra Davies of St. Petersburg; and four great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren, all who had the privilege of knowing the light and spirit of the family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her only child, Wanda May Jaynes Ray Kuntz; her husband of 78 years, Charles Jaynes; four sisters, Margaret King Skinner, Hazel King Gifford, Ada King Emmert and Louise King Hutchenson; and a beloved granddaughter-in-law, Patti Knesick Ray.
Services will be held Thursday, 10 a.m., at Bope-Thomas Funeral Home, Somerset, with the Rev. Duana Mowry officiating. Burial will be in New Lexington Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
William Booth

Age: 75
CREOLA - William “Bill” Booth, 75, of Creola, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, at Grant Medical Center, Columbus. He was retired from Rockwell International and was a Navy veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Eleanor Booth; a son, Jerry; a great-grandson, Caleb Booth; a brother, Robert; and brothers-in-law Darrell Perry, Bennie Morrison and Jack Tripp.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Phyllis; children Larry (Jane) Booth, Donald (Debbie) Booth and Karen (Ken) Craycraft; a brother, Larry (Shirley) Booth; sisters Betty Perry, Joann Tripp, Mary Lou Morrison, Glenna Rose (Lee) Rider, Wilma (Frank) Knipfer, Patricia (Larry) Coffey and Sheryl (Frank) Tripp; a sister-in-law, Mary Booth; grandchildren Tracey, Jason, Steven, Jerry, Larry Jr. and Melissa Booth, Shauna Jennings, Tim and Kim Craycraft, Jason Gibson and Michelle Bowen; five great-grandchildren; his father- and mother-in-law, Francis and Mary Goodin; many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Concord Cemetery.

Richard L. Vannoy

Age: 71
GUYSVILLE - Richard L. Vannoy, 71, of Guysville, formerly of Belpre, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg, W.Va.
Born in Calhoun County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Russell and Lelah Bennett Vannoy. He was a retired iron worker and a member of Iron Workers Local 787 of Parkersburg. He was a Korean War veteran who served aboard the battleship USS Wisconsin. He also was a member of Belpre Masonic Lodge 609 F&AM and Albany Eastern Star.
Richard derived much happiness from his family, his grandchildren and his farm.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Jean Burns Vannoy; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Tonda Kellison of Belpre, Rhonda and Larry McFee of Belpre, Sondra and Jeff Arnold of Little Hocking, and Shelly and Cory Schall of Guysville; seven grandchildren, Keith McFee and his wife, Kim, Courtney Arnold, Michael Kellison, Ashley Arnold, Joey Kellison, Bradley Arnold and Emily Schall; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Russell and Deloris Vannoy, and Billy and Betty Vannoy, all of Belpre; a brother-in-law, C.E. Brownfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Carley Ruble, Janice Brownfield and Carolyn Ball.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, 1 p.m., at Rockland Cemetery, Belpre, with Jeff Arnold officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Parkersburg Post 15 of the American Legion.
Friends may call at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre, today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., where Masonic services will be held at 7:30.

ATHENS - Sharon M. Snyder, 52, of Athens, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 10, 1951, in Athens, she was the daughter of the late James E. and Irene Bailey Buck.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Maplewood Cemetery, Glouster. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville.
Sybil Male Croston

Age: 80
ATHENS - Sybil “June” Male Croston, 80, of Athens, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, at 8:56 p.m. at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital.
Born May 1, 1923, in Bartlett, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Francis Gibson Male. A graduate of Bartlett High School, she worked at the Southeastern Ohio Mental Health Center in Athens, retiring after 18 years. She was a member of Blood Washed Baptist Church in Chesterhill.
She is survived by six sons, Jim Croston of Albany, Billy Croston of Chesterhill, David Croston of Athens, Richard Croston of Shade, James H. Croston Jr. of Sugar Grove and Jerry L. Croston of Lancaster; two daughters, Margarett Yoakum and Barbara Williams, both of Akron; a half-brother, Bob McGee of Zanesville; a half-sister, Jenetta Mayle of Zanesville; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, William, and a granddaughter.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, 1 p.m., at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home, Chesterhill, with Pastor Billy Croston officiating. Burial will be Chesterhill Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.
Michael Hale

Age: 61
SOMERSET - Michael Hale, 61, of Somerset, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville.
Born Oct. 7, 1942, in Chesterhill, he was the son of Vernon and Bonnie Hale of Somerset. He is survived by a son, Billy Hale, and a daughter, Amy Beatty.
Funeral services will be held today, 2:30 p.m. ,at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill. Burial will be in Chesterhill Cemetery.

Darrell Neil Phillips
Died: Thursday, November 06, 2003
Age: 71
GLOUSTER - Darrell Neil Phillips, 71, of Hartford, Mich., passed from this life on earth to eternity in heaven on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, at his home.
Darrell was born May 22, 1932, in Glouster, son of Loren and Ida (Jewell) Phillips. Darrell retired from farming in 1996 after many years of tending his farm. He was a former police officer for Ohio University in Athens. Darrell loved tending to his garden along with being an avid fisherman and hunter. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army and then in the National Guard.
As to Darrell’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family is following Darrell’s wishes by not having any public service. Military rites will be conducted at his home by VFW Post 6803; VFW Post 1137; American Legion Post 362 and Auxiliary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family.
Darrell is survived by his wife, Charlotte, whom he married on Aug. 29, 1951; three sons, Rodney (Sandra) Phillips of Watervliet, Darrell (Theresa) Phillips of Watervliet and Randy (Sharon) Phillips of Hartford; a daughter, Brenda (Howard) Parker of Hartford; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; his mother, Ida Phillips of Glouster; two brothers, David (Judy) Phillips of Ohio and Ralph (Marie) Phillips of North Carolina; three sisters, Sharma (Robert) Weedy, Sharon Fairclough and Gertrude (Jerry) Fraber, all of Ohio.
Darrell was preceded in death by a grandson, Shane Phillips; his father, Loren Phillips; and a brother, Billy Joe Phillips.
Wayne O. Ruth
Died: Thursday, November 06, 2003
Age: 70
ATHENS - Wayne O. Ruth, 70, of Johnstown, died of complications from multiple myaloma Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, at St. Ann’s Hospital.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Crouse-Kauber-Sammons Funeral Home, 225 N. Main St., Johnstown, with the Rev. Calvin Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Johnstown.
Mr. Ruth was born March 19, 1933, in Athens County, to the late Robert and Eunice (McCollins) Ruth. He retired after 25 years with Duff Trucklines with Teamsters Local 413, attended Alexandria United Methodist Church and was a member of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy Ruth of Johnstown; three daughters, Peggy (James Jr.) Biven of Johnstown, Penny (Darin) Carrigan of Utah and Patty Ruth-Lathem of Upper Arlington; four sisters, Margaret (Dwight) Turula and Doris (Ingvar) Iverson, both of Arizona, Roberta (Melvin) Futrell of Nevada and Sue (David) Williams of Johnstown; two brothers, John H. (Caryl) Ruth of Athens and Roger Ruth of Reynoldsburg; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Ruth of Canal Winchester; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell Ruth and Richard Hurley, and a sister, Jo Ann McKinney.
The family will receive friends today, 2 to 5 p.m., at the funeral home.
