LOGAN - Ray Anderson, 81, of Logan, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, in Logan.
Born May 11, 1922, in Hocking County, he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Cordelia Wolfe Anderson. He is survived by his wife, Lucy E. Schorr Anderson, and a daughter, Lois Faye Burk.
Services will be Monday ay 10:30 a.m. at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan. Burial will be in Shaw Cemetery, with military rites by the Combined Veterans Organizations of Hocking County,
Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., with memorial services by Logan Moose Lodge at 7 p.m.
David P. Davidson
Died: Tuesday, July 22, 2003
Age: 58
LONDONDERRY - David P. Davidson, 58, of Londonderry, Vinton County, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at his residence.
Born Nov. 22, 1944, in Chillicothe, he was the son of Paul J. and Duddie Waldron Davidson of Londonderry.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Wells Davidson; and children, Heather Climer, Heidi Davidson and Daniel Heath Davidson.
At Mr. Davidson’s request, his body has been cremated. There will be no calling hours or funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Taussing Cancer Research, 9500 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH 44193.

Artie B. Miller
Died: Tuesday, July 22, 2003
Age: 95
ATHENS - Artie B. Miller, 95, of Athens, died late Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at Arcadia Acres Nursing Home.
Born Sept. 14, 1907, in Linden, W.Va., he was the daughter of the late James and Mary Agnes Young Suttle. She was a homemaker and a member of South Canaan Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jim Miller of Athens, Bert and Sandra Miller of Athens; four grandsons, Michael Miller, Jeff Miller, John Miller and his fiancee Kim Devore, David Miller and his wife Michelle, all of Athens; four great-grandsons, Matthe Miller of Athens, Tyler Miller of Albany, Isaac Miller of Athens and Ian Miller of Athens; a great-granddaughter, Brittany Miller of Albany; a brother, Herbert Suttle of Florida; several nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Bert Miller, in 1986; a daughter-in-law, Marie Miller; eight brothers and two sisters.
Graveside services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at South Canaan Cemetery, with the Rev. Monte McCune officiating. There will be no calling hours.

Lloyd Lee Baker
Died: Tuesday, July 22, 2003
Age: 72
CHESTER - Lloyd Lee Baker, 72, of Chester, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis.
Born March 3, 1931, in Coolville, he was the son of the late Montie Pearly and Addie Swank Baker.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Kimes Baker; a son, Douglas; two daughters, Christy and Cathy; three brothers, Bernard, Dale and Clair; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; three nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home in Coolville. Burial will be in Coolville Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Raymond Travis Nott
Died: Monday, July 21, 2003
Age: 19
GLOUSTER - Raymond Travis Nott, 19, of Glouster, passed away on Monday, July 21, 2003, in Perry County. He was born Feb. 16, 1984, in Bethesda, Md.
Travis was employed by Krogers of Trimble and was a sophomore at Ohio University. He graduated from Trimble High School in 2001, where he was a member of the National Honor Society, president of Student Council and a member of the Trimble Mock Trial Team. He received many honors in football. In 2001, he was 1st Team All TVC, 1st Team All District and Honorable Mention All-State. He also was working as an assistant coach with the Trimble football program.
Travis received a Congressional nomination to the U.S. Naval Academy. He was a delegate at Buckeye Boys’ State and, thereafter, served as a Boys’ State counselor. He was a member and patriotic instructor for John S. Townsend Camp 108 Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War; a member of Sons of Veteran Reserves, where he served in Battery I, 1st Ohio Light Artillery Co. and served as a corporal in the 63rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry Co. G; and was a member of the National Civil War Artillery Association.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Palmer Anderson of Three Rivers, Texas; his father and stepmother, Isaac J. and Janie Nott of Glouster; a grandmother, Rose Palmer of Buffalo, N.Y.; a brother, Trent Nott of Glouster; half sisters, Tara Kock of Jacksonville and Calendra Nott of Arizona; a stepbrother, Josh Reynolds of Glouster; stepsisters, Gina Shoults of New Lexington, Kim Nutter of Logan and Stacy Reynolds of New Lexington; stepgrandparents, Roy and Helen Anderson of Wisconsin Dells, Wis.; and a large extended family. He also is survived by a special group of friends known as the “Four Horsemen,” which included Travis, Jeff Trace, Adam Faires and Kyle Andrews; and a close friend, Phil Faires.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Roy Anderson; paternal grandparents, Raymond and Lillian Nott; and maternal grandfather, Raymond Palmer.
Travis will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at Bishopville Church of Christ, with John Wright officiating. Following the funeral service, Travis will be cremated and his cremains will be taken to Gettysburg National Park.
A memorial stone will be placed at Beech Grove Cemetery, at a later date.
Friends may call at the church on Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Gilbert H. Jones
Died: Monday, July 21, 2003
Age: 85
WELLSTON - Gilbert H. Jones, 85, of Wellston, died Monday, July 21, 2003, at Jenkins Memorial Assisted Living, Wellston.
Born Oct. 2, 1917, in Wellston, he was the son of the late Charles and Effie Wade Jones. He is survived by a son, John Jones.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at Ridgewood Cemetery in Wellston, with military services conducted by American Legion Post 371.
Friends may call at Jenkins Funeral Home on Thursday, from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
Mildred L. Dean
Died: Sunday, July 20, 2003
Age: 76
ATHENS - Mildred L. Dean, 76, of Athens, died Sunday, July 20, 2003, at Rocksprings Rehabilitation Center in Pomeroy.
Born April 4, 1927, in Logan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William Hunt and Iva Mae Cullison Hunt.
Mildred, a loving mother, is survived by five sons, George (Sandy) Pitts of Burlington, Iowa, Ted Pitts and Billyjoe Pitts of Athens, John Dean of Orlando, Fla., and Robert (Debbie) Dean of Rockton, Ill.; two daughters, Ivajean Marrow of Colorado Springs, Colo., and LaDonna (Bob) Peck of Athens; one brother, Herbert (Barbell) Hunt, of San Luis, Calif.; two sisters, Lila Mae Dean of Orlando, Betty Marshall of Machesney Park, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Betty Dean of Machesney Park; a brother-in-law, Robert Schmidt of Rockford, Ill.; six grandsons, eight granddaughters, 15 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerold Dean Jr.; a son, Fred Pitts; a brother, Charles Hunt; a brother-in-law, Richard Dean; and a sister-in-law, Doris Schmidt.
Per her request, there will be no visitation or funeral services. Arrangements are by Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens.
James Everett Pauley
Died: Saturday, July 19, 2003
Age: 80
MIDDLEPORT - James Everett Pauley, 80, of Middleport, formerly of Albany, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2003, at Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis.
Born Oct. 18, 1922, in Lincoln County, W.Va., he was the son of the late James Addison and Eva Irene Bowman Pauley. He farmed for 17 years and retired from Ohio University with 21 years of service. He was a member of Kindgom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, Middleport Congregation.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Rudder Pauley; children, Larry Mitchell “Doc” (Lucy) Pauley of Jacksonville, N.C., Arthur Charles “Chuck” Pauley of McArthur, Larry Dilcher of Albany, Anna Lee (David) Cain of Albany, Jeffrey (Jennie) Dilcher of Letart, Nickey Barber and Juanita Whytsell of Longbottom; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Tony H. “Mary” Pauley of Yawkey, W.Va.; a sister, Alie “Dock” Salmons of Hamlin, W.Va.; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a wife, Mary Pauley, in 1991; a son, Kenneth Pauley; a daughter, Patricia Ann Pauley; a great-grandchild; a sister, Fanny Smith; and a brother, Earl Pauley.
Services will be held Friday, 3 p.m., at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home in Albany, with Brother David Green officiating. Burial will be in Wells Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m., on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Friday any time before the service. Following the service, the family will receive friends for food and fellowship, at 6:30 p.m., at Rocksprings Rehabilitation Center.
B. Richard Whitmer
Died: Saturday, July 19, 2003
Age: 80
ATHENS - B. Richard “Dick” Whitmer, 80, of Athens, died unexpectedly Saturday, July 19, 2003, at his home.
He was born Sept. 2, 1922, in New Holland, son of the late Robert and Artie Barclay Whitmer. He graduated from North High School, Columbus, in 1940. As a boy, he was active in the Boy Scouts of America and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He organized the first Explorer Patrol and served as assistant scout master for many years. He was active in the youth fellowship at Kohr Memorial Presbyterian Church and served as president of Youth of Ohio Synod of the Presbyterian Church in 1942.
He joined the United States Army in 1942 and participated in the Normandy Invasion, the liberation of Paris and the assault on Germany. He was wounded in Germany and awarded the Purple Heart.
He worked for the War Department as chief of civilian personnel in Paris from October 1945 until March 1947. There, he met his bride-to-be, Francoise, in 1945, and they married in 1946.
Dick worked for the Veterans Administration and the Federal Housing Administration in Columbus until 1959. He studied at Ohio State University, receiving a degree in business administration.
Dick and his family moved to Urbana in 1959 and he became executive vice president, managing officer for the Perpetual Federal Savings and Loan Association. They left Urbana in 1976 and came to Athens, where Dick served as president, managing officer of Athens County Savings and Loan Co.
He served as loan officer at Bank One of Athens from 1978 through 1981. From 1981 to 2001, he operated B.R. Dick Whitmer Appraisal Service in Athens. Dick was a 25 year member of the Lions Club and longtime member of Athens Fish and Game Club. He was a past-president of Urbana Chamber of Commerce.
Dick was active in his church, Alexander Presbyterian, where he was a church elder and a member of several committees. He loved the Lord and his church family.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Myrl Whitmer; and a sister, Martha Shirtzinger.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Francoise C. Whitmer; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Michael Ward of Athens, Christine and James Lentz of Chicago; four grandchildren, Matthew (Jessica) Ward, Benjamin Ward, Stephanie Lentz and Andrew Lentz. He is also survived by two sisters, Annalee Harrison and Ruth (Earl) Lang of Columbus; a brother, Gerald (Betty) Whitmer of Peachtree City, Ga.; and a special and good friend, David Hughes of Athens. He is survived by numerous nephews, nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Ed Brown officiating. Graveside military services will be conducted by Athens VFW Post 3477 and American Legion Post 21, at a local cemetery to be determined.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 6-8 p.m.

Robert E. Cordray
Died: Friday, July 18, 2003
Age: 80
ATHENS - Robert E. “Bob” Cordray, 80, beloved husband of Nita Marie Munn Cordray, died Friday, July 18, 2003, at Kobacker House in Columbus.
Born April 11, 1923, in Athens, he was the son of the late Lester and Beulah Cordray. He was a graduate of Albany High School and Ohio University. Mr. Cordray was a retired industrial arts teacher for Gahanna Middle School and was a World War II veteran.
Besides his wife, he is survived by children R. Eric Cordray and Victoria Parrish; grandchildren Rob Cordray, and Jason, Corey and Katie Parrish; a brother, John; and many other beloved family and friends.
At Mr. Cordray’s request, there will be only a private service at Blendon Central Cemetery Mausoleum, where he will be entombed.
