LOGAN - Clyde Matthew Wilson, 38, of Logan, died at his residence Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003.
Born June 14, 1965, in Logan, he was the son of Orval Wilson of Logan and the late Dorothy Theresa Hankison Wilson.
Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, Logan, with burial in Knollwood Cemetery.

WELLSTON - Paul J. Harris, 96, of Wellston, died today, Oct. 15, 2003, at Jenkins Memorial Assisted Living.
Born April 7, 1907, in Wellston, he was the son of the late David and Elizabeth Jones Harris. He is survived by a son, James Paul Harris, and a daughter, Susan McGuire.
Services will be Saturday, 11 a.m., at Jenkins Funeral Home, Wellston. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery.

Ruth A. Marstiller

NELSONVILLE - Ruth A. Marstiller, 76, of Nelsonville, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital.
She was born April 25, 1927, in Athens County, the daughter of the late Ronald “Skinny” and Mary Lewis Marstiller. She was the stepdaughter of Theda Marstiller.
She was retired from GE after 37 years of faithful work as a glass inspector. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, the GE retirees’ club, and the reunion committee for the Buchtel High School class of 1947. Ruth was an avid world traveler.
Ruth is survived by four sisters, Dixie (Charles) Stump, Sylvia (Ralph) Coffey and Kay (Glen) Landrum, all of Nelsonville, and Linda Marstiller of Newark; an uncle, Delbert Marstiller of Westerville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville, Burial will be in Asbury Cemetery, Athens County.

MIDDLEPORT - Mary A. Martin, 83, of Middleport, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at Overbrook Center.
Born Feb. 2, 1920, in Pittsburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Harry Reapp and Mary Howard Reapp. She is survived by children Frank Kelton Jr., Linda Jones and Adam Martin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Osby Martin.
Services will be Friday, at 2 p.m., at Ohio Valley Memory Gardens, Gallipolis.

Ida Mae Spradlin
Died: Tuesday, October 14, 2003

COOLVILLE - Ida Mae “Mickie” Spradlin, 64, of Coolville, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at her home.
She was born Aug. 13, 1939, in Worthington, W.Va., the daughter of the late Hurdle and Estel Groggs Sampson.
She is survived by a son, Timothy Spradlin; three grandsons, Jeremy Spradlin of Georgia, and Trevor and Koby Anderson of Guam; three sisters, Carolyn Smith of Mansfield, Margie Benedum of Reedsville and Gladys Barton of Coolville; and a brother, Rickey Sampson of Coolville.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Lisa Anderson; a sister, Anna Weekley; and two brothers, David and Daris Sampson.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home, Coolville, with Pastor Mike Allen officiating. Burial will be in Vanderhoof Cemetery, Coolville.

Raymond H. Swartzback

Age: 79
NEW MARSHFIELD -- Raymond H. Swartzback, 79, of New Marshfield, died suddenly early Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital.
Born April 26, 1923, in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of John and Florence Swartzback. He was a graduate of Maryville College in Maryville, Tenn., and McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, Ill. He received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Alma College in Alma, Mich., and the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio. Throughout his 38 years in the ministry he served innercity churches in Cincinnati, Detroit, Cleveland and New York City. He was a champion for social justice and active in the struggle for civil rights. During the Vietnam War years, he accepted a call to Westminster Presbyterian Church on the College of Wooster campus, where he extended his ministry to counseling students during this troubled time. Raymond served in Europe in World War II from 1942 to 1945 as a platoon leader of the 30th Division, 117 Infantry, where he received a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Jane Hays Swartzback, whom he married on Dec. 27, 1945. Also surviving are three daughters, Linda Pratt (Jeff) of Millersburg, Ohio, Carol Kirk (John) of New Marshfield and Susan Quinones of Athens; and nine grandchildren.
Following his retirement in 1988 he and his wife, Jane, moved to a country home in New Marshfield. While there he created a bird sanctuary that inspired him to follow his lifelong love of woodcarving on songbirds. Along with his wife, he worshiped at First Presbyterian Church of Athens where he enjoyed singing in the choir.
In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund is being set up for McCormick Theological Seminary. Contributions may be sent to First Presbyterian Church of Athens, Craig Seitz, minister.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Martha Oney Burchett

COLUMBUSÊ -- ÊMartha Oney Burchett, 87, of Columbus, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at St. Ann's Hospital, Westerville.
Born July 18, 1915, in Greenup, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Hiram and Mary Douglas Oney. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Burchett is survived by daughters Betty (Jessie) Mills of Columbus, Patricia (Wayne) Wilson of Marysville and Delores (Charles) Criger of Westerville; sons David Roger (Nancy) Burchett of Westerville and Ronald (Yvonne) Burchett of Magnolia, Texas; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Burchett, on April 29, 1975; sisters Sarah Campbell and Pearl Morrison; brothers Sam, William, Reece, Kelley and Adam Oney; and a half brother, Herb Dowdy.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur, with the Rev. Jack Marcum officiating. Burial will be in Elk Cemetery.

Born Nov. 14, 1923, in Columbus, he was the son of the late Harry E. Shaffer and Margery Fern Stawser Shaffer Lama. He is survived by his wife, Joanne Estella Jackson Shaffer.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, Logan, with burial in Knollwood Cemetery.

Born Jan. 9, 1943, in Chillicothe, he was the son of the late Everett and Ruth Coyle Williams. He was an Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Leah Barlow Williams, and children Melissa Lewis, Joe W. Williams Jr. and Kristi O'Dell.

CREOLA -- Rachel Marcum Brewer, 78, of Creola, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at her residence.
Born April 5, 1924, in Wayne County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Brady and Nancy Williamson Marcum. She was a homemaker and a member of Vinton Chapel Church.
She is survived by daughters Mahalia Mullins and Shelby (Lydle) Cain of Creola; sons Warren (Roxie) Brewer and Marvin Brewer of Columbus, and Joseph (Sue) Brewer of Grafton; a brother, Harry (Etta) Marcum of Columbus; a special grandchild, Pvt. Nicholas Cain of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.; 17 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands Joseph H. Brewer and Curtis McCall; a daughter, Freda Johnson; sons Ked and Wilbur Brewer; brothers Hollis and Everett Marcum; and a sister, Virginia Jones.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Vinton Chapel Church with the Rev. David Peoples officiating. Burial will be in Creola Cemetery.

Helen M. Parish

GLOUSTER -- ÊHelen M. Parish, 90, of Glouster, passed away Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville.
She was born Jan. 15, 1912, in Trimble, daughter of the late Roy and Susan Kasler. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Parish Sr.
She was a member of Bishopville Church of Christ and Thea Chapter OES 192.
She is survived by three sons, Jim (Martha) Parish of Glouster, Robert Replogle of Bluffton, S.C., and Donald (Dot) Replogle of Uniontown, Ohio; three daughters, Nancy (Danny) Kasler of The Plains, Jane (Dave) Weeks of Athens and Kathy (John) Davenport of Rumford, R.I.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by two brothers, Irving and Arza Kasler, and three sisters, Alice Sayre, Clara Kasler and Edith Shields.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m., at Cardaras Funeral Home, Glouster, with John Wright officiating. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery.
