CHESTERHILL -- Wilma Smith Newton, 75, of Chesterhill, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at Mark Rest Center, McConnelsville.
Born Nov. 1, 1927, in Toledo, she was the daughter of the late Glenn and Gladys Dickson Smith.
Mrs. Newton is survived by her husband, Clarence R. Newton; a son, Tom Newton; and a daughter, Connie Dunn.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Stone-Matheny Funeral Home, Chesterhill, with burial in Bartlett Cemetery.
Calling hours will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Robert Oxley Barker
Died: Thursday, December 12, 2002
Age: 83
ATHENS -- Col. Robert Oxley Barker (Retired), 83, passed away Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002.
He was born in London, Ohio, on Oct. 9, 1919, to Lena Oxley Barker and Robert Ralph Barker and
He graduated from Ohio State University and earned his "wings" in the "West Point of The Air" at Randolph Field, Texas. Bob was an officer in World War II and became the commanding officer of his squadron, the 456th Bomb Squadron of the 9th Air Force. He flew the Martin-Marauder B-26 plane in combat. He was flying with his crew on D-day. The plane was named "Buckeye Battle Cry" for the OSU fight song. He had 49 missions under the command of Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Survivors are his loving wife of 60 years, Maxine (Page) Barker; a daughter, Susanne (Barker) Cottingham of Punta Gorda, Fla.; grandchildren Cott and Ran; great-grandchildren Marshall, Cary Anne and Jesse; daughter, Dianne Barker of Phoenix, Ariz.; son, Lt. Col. Brent Barker of Simi Valley, Calif.; and grandchildren Brey, Amanda and Pierce.
A memorial service will be held At Union United Methodist Church at a future date. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: RTA Hospice with our special thanks to nurse Cheryl Mason, RTA Hospice and Palliatine Care, 1102 E. McDowell Road, Phoenix, Ariz. 85006.
We will forever be grateful for the care and love given by Dr. Richard Dinsdale and his crew of nurses at the Desert Grove Association and to 911 and the Valley Lutheran Hospital.
Arrangements are being handled by Bunker's Desert View Chapel, Mesa, Ariz.

GLOUSTER - Richard C. “Dick” Jones, 73, a longtime resident of the Northland area, Columbus, died suddenly at his home on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003.
He was a graduate of Glouster High School and Bliss College, and was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a retired advertising representative for Suburban News, a member and past secretary of Beechcroft Lions Club, past president of Columbus Northeast Lions Club, a former member of the board of directors for Pilot Dogs, a member of Glouster Lodge 607 F&AM, Aladdin Shrine hospitality unit, Beechwold Church of Christ and North Park Church of Christ-Christian.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Nancy Falter Jones; daughters Julie (Chuck) Confar and Terri (Edward) Madden; grandchildren Dylan and Kim Confar; stepgrandchildren Chelsea and Miranda Madden; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; a special friend, Helen Baker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Temple Jones.
Services will be held Monday, 10:30 a.m., at Long Funeral Home, 5528 Cleveland Ave., Columbus. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Lions memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 3:45.

Sadie Naomi Parks

Age: 87
GLOUSTER - Sadie Naomi Parks, 87, of Glouster, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens.
Born April 21, 1916, in Wellston, she was the daughter of the late Franklin and Ethel Mae Sisson Williams. She was the widow of the late Chester Earl Parks, who died Jan. 27, 1997.
She was a member of Glouster United Methodist Church, past president of Glouster Garden Club, a member of the Athens County and Trimble Twp. Democratic Clubs, and past president of Glouster Village Council. She was active in the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association, and helped establish Shalom House in Glouster and the Vietnam and Korean War Memorial in Glouster Park. She was a pioneer in the recycling efforts in Glouster and Trimble Twp. and continued this effort until her failing health. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, and a friend to all.
She is survived by a son, Dean “George” (Gwendolyn) Parks of Baltimore, Ohio; five daughters, Martha Ann Bailey of Newark, Judith (Richard) Bryson of Pataskala, Winifred (Robert) Cunningham of Albany, Margaret (Willard) Stanley of Glouster and Nina (James) Andrews of Nelsonville; 20 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Williams of The Plains; and a sister, Wanda Sherman of Stockport.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Elaine Hamill; a son-in-law, Jack O. Bailey Sr.; three brothers, Harold, Clyde and Ronald Williams; and two sisters, Dorothy Williams and Marcella Cope.
Services will be held Sunday, 2 p.m., at Glouster United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Craig Crossman officiating. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery.
Friends may call at Cardaras Funeral Home, Glouster, today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and at the church on Sunday one hour prior to the service.

CHILLICOTHE - Raymond B. Tennant, 80, of Chillicothe, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at the Chillicothe VA Medical Center.
Born Sept. 18, 1922, in Ray, he was the son of the late Wayne and Ollie Branscom Tennant. He is survived by sons Jerry and Darrell Tennant, and daughters Sherry Hassler, Debbie Tennant and Rayme Lynn Meadows.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, with a procession forming at Jenkins Funeral Home, Wellston.

NELSONVILLE - Gregory Joseph Gabriel, 50, formerly of Nelsonville, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at his residence in Mount Morris, N.Y.
He was an Army veteran of the Gulf War.
He is survived by his mother, Viola Gabriel of Lancaster; his wife, Joni Gabriel of Fort Hood, Texas; and children Gregory William Gabriel and Katie Gabriel. He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon L. Gabriel.
The body was cremated. A memorial service will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Asbury Cemetery.
Sharon Boggs

RUTLAND - Sharon Boggs, 54, of Rutland, died Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 20, 2003, at Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus.
Born March 24, 1949, in Mount Sterling, she was the daughter of the late Nathan and Geneva Jones Rapp. She was a homemaker and a nursing home aide, and attended Living Water Worship Center.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Boggs; a daughter, Marie Ellen Boggs; stepsons Ricky, Danny and Tim Boggs; sisters Esther Green, Priscilla Jordan, Pauline Knotts, Carol Lavalley and Nancy Green; and a brother, Albert Rapp.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Paul, and a sister, Janet.
Services will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at Living Water Worship Center, with Pastor Jim Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Shade Cemetery.

HAMDEN - Carl E. Jeffords, 54, of Hamden, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at his residence.
Born May 31, 1949, in Columbus, he was the son of Evelyn Tennihill Jeffords of Amherst and the late Charles H. Jeffords. He was a former employee of the Ford Motor Co. plant in Lorain, was a 1967 graduate of Lorain High School and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Kos Jeffords, on Feb. 4.
Besides his mother, he is survived by daughters Tracy Jeffords (Dean Woolum) of Thurman, Carrie (Jeremy) Clifton of Stoutsville and Megan Jeffords at home; grandchildren Steven and Britney Silcott; a brother, Ralph Jeffords of Lorain; sisters Patricia Weaver of Lorain, Rebecca (Ken) Miloda of Amherst and Nikki (Mark) Majcher of Lorain; many nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday, 3 p.m., at Elk Cemetery, McArthur, with the Rev. Walter Goble officiating.

LOGAN - Paul K. Donaldson, 80, of Logan, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at Logan.
Born Oct. 31, 1922, in New Straitsville, he was the son of the late Frank and Ann Burgess Donaldson. He is survived by a daughter, Judy Ann Ware, and a stepdaughter, Frances Peark Cook.
