POMEROY -- Margaret Buckley, 78, of Pomeroy, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at the Pomeroy residence of her daughter.
Born April 21, 1924, in Reedsville, she was the daughter of Lola Barber of Pomeroy and the late Delbert Barber. She is survived by a daughter, Pamela Hoffman, and was preceded in death by her husband, George Garland Buckley.
Services will be Friday, 1 p.m., at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home, Coolville. Burial will be in Reedsville Cemetery.

W. Eileen Davis Houck
Died: Saturday, September 27, 2003
Age: 67
NELSONVILLE - W. Eileen Davis Houck, 67, of Lancaster, formerly of the Nelsonville area, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at Winchester Place Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Canal Winchester.
Born Sept. 11, 1927, in Nelsonville, she was the daughter of the late Branson Spangle and Ruth Mills Davis. Eileen was a retired dispatcher for the Ohio State Highway Patrol. She was a past member of Eastern Star and attended Athens First Baptist and The Plains United Methodist Churches.
She is survived by a daughter, Catherine E. Houck of Lancaster; a grandchild, Leah (Bill) Stimel of Nelsonville; two great-grandchildren, Jarrod Lee Fulton and Jordyn T’Leah Stimel; three brothers, Robert Davis of Welaka, Fla., Kenneth Davis of Nelsonville and Bernard (Shirley) Davis of Buchtel; a sister, Carol Sue (Paul) Spradling of Cross Lanes, W.Va.; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Margie Davis; two brothers, Harold and Gerald “Joe” Davis; and her former husband, James E. Houck.
Services will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville. Burial will be in Athens Memory Gardens, Athens.

LOGAN - Delores Ann “Dolly” Rust, 69, of Logan, formerly of New Brighton, Pa., died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at Columbus.
Born Nov. 3, 1933, in New Brighton, she was the daughter of the late James Clarke and Martha Means Clarke Rombold. She is survived by a daughter, Denise Y. Rust, and four sons, Richard R., Martin W., David H. and John A. Rust.
Funeral services are Tuesday, 10 a.m., at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan. Burial will be in Knollwood Cemetery, Logan.

Margaret E. Stevens

Age: 90
ATHENS - Margaret E. Stevens, 90, of Hickory Creek Nursing Center, formerly of The Lindley Inn, The Plains, died Friday morning, Sept. 26, 2003, at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 29, 1913, in Canandaigua, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Roy and Miriam Supplee McMillan. She was a graduate of Canandaigua Academy and taught in a one-room schoolhouse for three years near Canandaigua before marrying Edward W. Stevens. She taught at Rochester Nursery and, for 20 years, at Rush-Henrietta School District, where she taught second grade. She received a bachelor of science degree in education from the University of Rochester in 1965. She was a longtime resident of Pittsford, N.Y.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Claudette C. Stevens of Athens; two grandchildren, Sean Edward (Stephanie) Stevens of Grove City and Megan M. Stevens of Bellefontaine; two great-grandsons, Edward and Jesse; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Edward W. Stevens Jr.; a sister and 10 brothers.
A memorial service will be held Sunday in Pittsford, N.Y. Arrangements are by Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens.
Harold F. Jeffers

POMEROY - Harold F. Jeffers, 70, of Pomeroy Cliffs, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis.
Born March 14, 1933, in Meigs County, he was the son of the late John and Vida Riggs Jeffers. He is survived by three children, Patty Proffitt, John Leon Jeffers and Harold Eugene Jeffers.
Funeral services are Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Ewing Funeral Home, Pomeroy. Burial will be in Rocksprings Cemetery.

RACINE - Laura Mae Hager, 95, of Racine, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at Rocksprings Rehabilitation Center.
Born May 8, 1908, in Leon, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Enoch and Sarah Smith Badgley. She is survived by a son, Harold Hager, and a daughter, Yvonne Flowers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Hager.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, 1:30 p.m., at Gravel Hill Cemetery, Cheshire.

MIDDLEPORT - Genevieve Odell Demoskey, 96, of Middleport, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at Point Pleasant, W.Va.
Born Aug. 4, 1907, in Syracuse, she was the daughter of the late George and Winnie Quillen Hood. She is survived by a daughter, Gloria Dalton.
Mrs. Demoskey was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford John Stanley Demoskey.
Funeral services are Wednesday, 10 a.m., at Fisher Funeral Home, Middleport. Burial will be in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House, W.Va.

Christine Augusta Lake Gould

NELSONVILLE - Christine Augusta Lake Gould, 82, formerly of Nelsonville, passed away Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville.
She was born April 29, 1921, in Racine, the daughter of the late Francis and Ura Sayre Morris. She was the widow of Albert J. “Pete” Gould.
Christine worked for many years at Ohio University as a bookkeeper in the registrars office. She was a member of Racine Baptist Church and was a violin player in an orchestra.
She is survived by a son, Bill and Sandy Lake of Millfield; a stepson, Jan Gould of California; two grandchildren, Lori Lake of Millfield and Sean Lake of Columbus; two sisters, Mildred Swift of Columbus and Audrey Schroeder of San Antonio, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Monday, 11 a.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Racine.

Donald Price Starkey
Died: Friday, September 26, 2003
SHAWNEE - Donald Price Starkey was born March 25, 1936, in Shawnee, to Donald B. and Mildred Price Starkey. He married Peggy A. Love Starkey, who survives, on June 13, 1961.
Mr. Starkey was an agent for Western Southern Life Insurance Co. for 26 years. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and most outdoor activities. He also enjoyed the company of his great friends, Carol and Marge Vanhorn.
Mr. Starkey was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Jackson Price (Greg and Julie Starkey).
He is survived by four children, Greg (Julie) Starkey of Lima, Michele (Dean) Poston, David (Kelly) Starkey and Bill Starkey of Lancaster; nine grandchildren, Lauren, Mallory and Austin (Greg and Julie), Caity and Chase (Michele and Dean), Justin (David and Kelly), Alex, Mac and Gavin (Bill).
Showing, with services to follow, will be held this evening from 6 to 8 at Frank E. Smith Funeral Home, Lancaster.

ATHENS - William H. Schoonover, 80, of Athens, died late Thursday evening, Sept. 25, 2003, at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 19, 1922, in New Floodwood, he was the son of the late John and Lena Smith Schoonover. Retired from Southern Ohio Coal Co., he formerly was employed at Litton-McBee Corp. He was a member of Living Water Worship Center. An army veteran, he served in the European Theatre, where he received four Bronze Stars.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Bradley Schoonover; two daughters, Julia (Duane) Shaw Moon of The Plains and Tammy Schoonover Camechis of Florida; a son, Todd (Cheryl) Shaw of South China, Maine; a daughter-in-law, Joanna Bedillion Schoonover af Danville, Ky.; grandchildren Denika, Kyler, Makynna and Caleb Moon, Michaela and Tyler Shaw, Joe Schoonover, Candy Bolin, Morgan Gagle and Nathan and Tracy Camechis; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean Ball of Chauncey; mothers-in-law Mary Bradley of Athens and Eileen Bradley of Tiltonsville; a sister-in-law, Beverly (Wayne) Thompson; and brothers-in-law William C. (Gayle) Bradley, John (Ellen) Capers, Larry Capers and James Wolfe.
He was preceded in death by a son, Billy Joe Schoonover; a great-grandson, Christopher Bolin; a sister, Marcella Wolfe; an infant sister, Barbara; and father-in-law William Bradley.
Funeral services will be Monday, 11 a.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, conducted by Pastor James Stewart. Burial will be in Hilltop Cemetery, Millfield. Athens VFW Post 3477 and KT Crossen American Legion Post 21 will conduct military rites at the cemetery.

Washington C.H. -- Esther Knox, 99, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at Court House Manor in Washington Court House.
Mrs. Knox was a homemaker and a member of Jeffersonville Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Knox, on Sept. 27, 2001.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Ivanelle Deweese of Washington Court House; nieces and their husbands, Emogene Yeager Coen and Emery Coen, Glenna and Richard Grim, Ruth Conkey and Mildred Hooper, all of Athens, Martha Bingham of Ravenswood, W.Va., and Cora Hooper of Sun City Center, Fla.; and a nephew, Ben Ewing of Pomeroy.
Services were held on Friday at Morrow Funeral Home in Jeffersonville, with the Rev. Thomas Maxedon Jr. officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Jeffersonville.
Alta Liddie Ballard

Born Nov. 3, 1915, in Chester, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary Deems Fredrick. She is survived by her husband, Harian Ballard; a son, Fred Ballard; and a daughter, Londa Wertman.

Born April 28, 1933, in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Ina Frost Bolin.
She is survived by her husband, Floyd McWilliams; and sisters Nellie Phelps of Athens and Alice (William) Shonce of Mineral Ridge.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Bolin.
Services will be held Thursday, 2 p.m., at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home, Albany, with Pastor Jim Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Alexander Cemetery.
