NELSONVILLE -- Gertrude F. Rutter, 90, Nelsonville, passed away Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville.
She was born March 14, 1912, in Circle Hill, the daughter of the late Edward H. and Edna G. Lovsey Courtney. She was the widow of Earl Rutter, and a former member of the Nelsonville VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by three daughters, Edna (Jim) Monroe, Nancy (John) Kimmey and Sharon (Wayne) Perry, all of Nelsonville; a stepson, Jack Rutter of Columbus; and nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a previous husband, Charles Merritt; a daughter, Norma Goodin; two sons, James and Gregory Merritt; a stepson, Kenneth Rutter; two sisters, Jessie Marie Courtney and Alice Hamilton; and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville. Interment will be at Hilltop Cemetery, Millfield.

Georgia N. Phillips
Died: Friday, November 08, 2002
Age: 83
LONDONDERRY -- Georgia N. Phillips, 83, of Londonderry, passed from this life Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at Heartland of Chillicothe, following an extended illness.
She was born Jan. 12, 1919, in Meigs County, the daughter of George B. and Ethel Radekin. She graduated from Columbia High School in 1936 and Jewish Hospital School of Nursing, Cincinnati, in 1939. In 1940, she married William S. Phillips, who died in 1982.
Surviving are sisters Dena Hoffman of Florida, Doris Miller of Alabama and Betty (Roger) Bolen of Londonderry; a sister-in-law, Barbara Radekin of McArthur; beloved nieces and nephews, including Gary Sams, Marlene Hoffman, Carolyn Marshall, John Bolen, Cheryl Weaver, Lorie Polkey and Terry Radekin; 15 great-nieces and nephews, including Wendy Bolin, the apple of Aunt Georgia's eye, and eight great-great-nieces and nephews. Her parents, brothers John Edward and George Jr.; sisters Maxine Radekin and Ina Sams; niece Lauralee Dayton and nephew Larry Hoffman preceded her in death.
Georgia worked as a registered nurse in the Chillicothe area, including as chief of nursing of Mt. Logan Tuberculosis Sanatorium and 17 years in public health as executive secretary and nurse provider for the Ross County Welfare Association. She served as a volunteer RN for the American Red Cross of Ross County, and established a training class for those engaged in practical nursing before schools were available for this profession.
She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church since 1942, serving in many church positions, including church clerk and the deaconess board. She served in the kitchen committee for 10 years, known for her cooking ability and sharing with those who no longer could cook for themselves. She loved gospel music and sharing her collection of videotapes with friends and shut-ins. She will be sadly missed by her many friends and loved ones.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Haller Funeral Home, Chillicothe, with the Rev. Robert Melton and the Rev. Kenneth Blevins officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort.

McARTHUR -- Zelma Tripp Stone, 100, of McArthur, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at Crestview Manor Nursing Home in Lancaster.
Born Nov. 2, 1902, in Richland Twp., Vinton County, she was the daughter of the late William A. and Sarah Bolar Tripp.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, 2 p.m., at Elk Cemetery in McArthur.

Born Oct. 18, 1923, in Vinton County, he was the son of the late Clem and Naomi Harden Inboden.

GLOUSTER -- Dean E. Bowersock, 93, of Glouster, died Thursday, Nov. 7, at his home.
Born Dec. 14, 1908, in Palos, he was the son of the late Arle and Nancy Stump Bowersock.
He is survived by a son, David; and a daughter, Charlotte Phillips.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Olive Price Bowersock.
Services will be held Sunday, 1:30 p.m., at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill. Burial will be in Pisgah Cemetery.

Sandra Jo Adams

ATHENS -- Sandra Jo Adams, 50, of Lemaster Road, Athens, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at her residence.
Born Feb. 2, 1952, in Athens, she was the daughter of Kathleen Douglas Cain of Athens and the late Miles "Ted" Cain. She was a nurses aide.
Besides her mother, she is survived by her husband, David Adams; a son, Brad Jolley of Athens; daughters Kristi Jolley, Mandy Adams and Mindy Adams, all of Athens; grandchildren Jessica, Kayla, Kelsey and Dakota; two brothers, John Cain and Terry Cain, both of Athens; a sister, Cindy Coen of Athens; and her second mom and dad, Ron and Donna Adams.
Besides her father, she was preceded in death by an uncle, Walter Douglas.
Services will be held Sunday, 2 p.m., at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home, Albany, with Pastor John Elswick officiating. Cremation will follow.

William D. Biehl

ATHENS -- William D. "Bill" Biehl, 76, of Athens, died Thursday morning, Nov. 7, 2002, at Rockmill Rehabilitation Center in Lancaster, after a brief illness.
Born Aug. 16, 1926, in Marietta, he was the son of the late Perle and Florence Wendelken Biehl. He was retired owner and operator of Biehl Safety Service of Athens, where he served clientele for 42 years. A 1944 graduate of Marietta High School, He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of Richland Avenue United Methodist Church, Paramuthia Lodge 25 Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio, Athens Chapter 39 Royal Arch Masons, Athens Council 15 Royal and Select Masters, Athens Commandery 15 Knights of Templar, Aladdin Temple of the Shrine of Columbus, Athens County Shrine Club and Athens Elks Lodge 973. He was a life member of K.T. Crossen Post 21 American Legion and Athens VFW Post 3477, past president of the Chamber of Commerce, board director of the Ohio Glass Association, a former member of the Kiwanis Club, was active as a leader in 4-H and the Boy Scouts.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Margarett "Marge" Cowell Biehl; a daughter, Linda (Dirk) Smith of Worthington; a son, Paul of Athens; granddaughters Tiffany (Dan) Perrine of Newark, Jamie Sedwick of Albany, Connie Zwahlen of Athens and Heather Daniels of New Straitsville; five great-grandchildren; sisters Helen J. Cross of Columbus, Velma (Charles) Comstock of Utica and Carman (Bernard) Seevers of Marietta; brothers Vern (Josette) Biehl of Marietta and Richard Biehl of Marietta.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mireem Greene.
Services will be held Monday, 1 p.m., at Richland Avenue United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Norman Coleman and David Cogar officiating. Burial will be in Alexander Cemetery, with military services conducted by K.T. Crossen Post 25 and Athens VFW Post 3477.

Born Oct. 28, 1914, in Wellston, she was the daughter of the late Jerome and Eunice Brislin Mahle.

Born Jan. 7, 1921, in Detroit, she was the daughter of the late Merle and Elizabeth Martin. She was the widow of Walter Dearing.

Randall McCamish

ATHENS -- Randall McCamish, 53, of Enlow Road, Athens, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at his residence after an extended illness.
Born Feb. 2, 1949, in Murray, Ky., he was the son of James A. McCamish of Athens and the late Thelma Jett McCamish. He was in retail sales for Radio Shack before becoming disabled in 1990. He was a member of Athens Church of Christ and an avid Alexander Spartan fan.
Besides his father, he is survived by his wife, Jean Ann Ray McCamish; a daughter, Heather Lynne McCamish at home; a sister, Ann (Jim) Wilhelm of Athens; two nieces and their families, a nephew and his family, and a special great-nephew, C.J. Flood.
Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by a son, James A. McCamish, in 1991.
Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Athens Church of Christ with H. Willard Love and Paul Schwab officiating. Burial will be in Alexander Cemetery.

COOLVILLE -- Ronald Wayne Kinney, 59, of Parkersburg, W.Va., died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg.
He was born Dec. 11, 1942, in Parkersburg, son of the late Charles Thomas and Edith Biles Kenney. He was a member of Grace Brethren Church in Coolville and Labor Union Local 1085.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Ann Kinney; a daughter, Melissa Varner of Parkersburg; a granddaughter, Haley Varner of Parkersburg; a brother, Ed Kinney of Huntington, W.Va.; three sisters, Peggy Harrison and Janet Moss of Parkersburg, and Eleanor Lease of Virginia.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Gary, Larry, Don, Jim, John and Chuck; and a sister, Mary Kinney.
Services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at Grace Brethren Church, Seminary Street, Coolville. Burial will be in Torch Cemetery.
Visitation will be held today, from 4 to 9 p.m., at the church.

Joseph "Virgil" Hawk

Age: 83
ATHENS -- Joseph "Virgil" Hawk, 83, of Coolville Ridge, Athens, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 5, 2002, at Hickory Creek Nursing Center.
Born Aug. 29, 1919, in Athens County, he was the son of the late Clarence and Mary Beckett Hawk. He retired from Ohio University, where he was an equipment operator. He was the former owner and operator of a sawmill and a former volunteer firefighter for Rome-Canaan Fire Department. He attended Lodi School and was a World War II Army veteran who served in the European Theater.
He is survived by his wife, Verta Belle Dunfee Hawk; a son, Joseph (Lou Ann) Hawk of Goodletsville, Tenn.; and brothers David H. (Eleanor) Hawk of The Plains, and Richard (Barbara) Hawk of Shelby; and a sister-in-law, Virginia H. (Troy) Huffman of Massillon.
He was preceded in death by sisters Bernice Swartz, Opal Mae Williamson and Betty MacWilliams; and brothers Haines, Dale, Eldon and Otis Hawk.
Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Webb officiating. Burial will be in Graham Chapel Cemetery, with military rites conducted by K.T. Crossen Post 21 and Athens VFW Post 3477,
