Age: 75

PICKERINGTON - Marjorie L. Fletcher Croston, 75, of Pickerington, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, at Mount Carmel Medical Center East, Columbus.

Born July 12, 1928, in Cutler, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Cora Green Fletcher. She is survived by her husband, Kermit Croston.

Services will be Tuesday, 1 p.m., at Bethel Methodist Church near Chesterhill. Burial will be in Mount Hermon Cemetery.

Friends may call at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home, Chesterhill, today from 4 to 8 p.m., and at the church on Tuesday one hour prior to the service.

Paul Edward Brown
Died: Saturday, November 01, 2003
Age: 78

LOGAN - Paul Edward “Brownie” Brown, 78, of Logan, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital, Logan.

Born March 24, 1925, in Marion Twp., Hocking County, he was the son of the late Russell and Florence Lillie Bowland Brown. Mr. Brown was a salesman with Ferd Hack Auto Supply Co. in Logan, where he had been employed for 48 years. He was a member of South Harvey United Methodist Church in Hocking County and the former Logan Elks Lodge, where he operated the Teen Canteen for several years. He was a former scout leader and Little League baseball coach.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Jo Dicken Brown of Logan; a daughter, Becky (Ron Ramey) Hallowell of Worthington; a grandson, Justin Hallowell of Worthington; a sister, Eleanor Ellinger of Kerrville, Texas; two nephews, Tom Ellinger of Kerrville and Russell Ellinger of Uvalde, Texas; and several Logan nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Roberts Funeral Home, Logan, with the Rev. Lawrence R. Hoffmann officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Logan.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Helen M. Pickett
Died: Saturday, November 01, 2003
Age: 82

NELSONVILLE - Helen M. Pickett, 82, of Nelsonville, passed away Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003 at Logan Health Care Center.

She was born April 13, 1921, in Athens County, the daughter of the late Frank and Tillie Robinette Perry, and the wife of the late Gerald Pickett.

Helen attended Community of Christ Church, Logan, and was a member of the Nelsonville Senior Citizens Club. She was retired from Wm. Brooks Shoe Co. after many years of employment.

Helen is survived by several special nieces and nephews, and a brother, Jack (Francis) Perry of Nelsonville.

In addition to her parents and husband, Helen is preceded in death by brothers Billy and Ralph Perry, both of Nelsonville.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville.

Friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. the funeral home.

Ernest W. Nelson
Died: Friday, October 31, 2003
Age: 85

ALBANY - Ernest W. Nelson, 85, of Eastern Avenue, St. Cloud, Fla., passed away on Friday, Oct. 31, 2003.

Born in Langsville, Mr. Nelson moved to St. Cloud in 1980 from South Charleston, W.Va. He was a banker for many years before moving to Florida, a member of First United Methodist Church of St. Cloud, a 64-year member of Masonic Lodge 285 in Wilkesville, a member of Osceola County Shrine Club, and was past president of High 12 Club and St. Cloud Garden Club.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth H. Nelson of St. Cloud; sons Eugene Nelson of Columbus, Gary D. Nelson of Albany, John M. Nelson of Villages in Florida and Dennis “Randy” Nelson of St. Cloud; a daughter, Rosalie Johnson of Shade; 13 grandchildren and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held Monday at Osceola Memory Gardens Funeral Home, St. Cloud Chapel, with the Rev. Alexis Talbott of St. Cloud First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment and military graveside rites followed in Osceola Memory Gardens Cemetery, Kissimmee, Fla.

Everett Bishop
Died: Friday, October 31, 2003
Age: 73

WELLSTON - Everett Bishop, 73, of Homosassa, Fla., formerly of Vinton County, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, at his residence.

Born March 17, 1930, in Regina, Ky., he was the son of the late John E. and Bessie Ann Branham Bishop. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

He is survived by his companion, JoAnne Chronabery; a son, Jeffrey Bishop; and a daughter, Theresa Lynn Hicks.

Services will be Wednesday, 11 a.m., at McWilliams Funeral Home, Wellston. Burial will be in Hamden Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Randall J. Helber
Died: Friday, October 31, 2003
Age: 45

LOGAN - Randall J. Helber, 45, of Logan, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, in Logan.

Born Nov. 16, 1957, in Nelsonville, he was the son of Barbara Lee McKnight Helber-Crawfis of Lancaster and the late Donald B. Helber.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan, with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Hobert E. Murphy
Died: Friday, October 31, 2003
Age: 85

COOLVILLE - Hobert E. Murphy, 85, of Coolville, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, at Arcadia Nursing Center, Coolville.

He was born July 22, 1918, in Malta, son of the late Riley and Mary Shilling Murphy. He was a retired millwright and carpenter. He was a proud veteran of World War II and a member of the VFW.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Murphy; five sisters, Shirley Cruse, Pearl and Tom McGrew, Nina and Herman Ring, Faye and Jim Dudley and Paula Tillis; two brothers, Bob Murphy and Dean Shilling; a half brother, Paul Bennett; a sister-in-law, Judy Murphy; special nieces Carolyn and David Bean, Nancy and Keith Siegman and Jackie and William Dockery; a special nephew, Herbert P. and Myong Murphy; and several other nieces and nephews. He is also survived by numerous stepchildren, Connie and Paul Vlack, Brenda and Steve Wiles, Charles and JoAnn Carpenter, James and Peggy Webb, Terry and Florence Carpenter; and several stepgrandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Geneva Murphy; a sister, Rosemary Storey; and two brothers, Virgil Murphy and Bill Murphy.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home, Coolville, with the Rev. James D. Webb officiating. Burial will be in Sand Rock Cemetery, Amesville, where military graveside services will be conducted.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Gerry Lynn Fain
Died: Thursday, October 30, 2003
Age: 56

McARTHUR - Gerry Lynn Fain, 56, of McArthur, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 29, 1946, in McArthur, she was the daughter of the late Thomas R. and Thelma V. Henson Swaim. She was employed by Ohio University for 32 1/2 years, the last 20 years in Adult Learning Services. She was a 1964 graduate of McArthur High School, and a member of McArthur First Christian Church and Hamden Chapter 244 OES.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Jack D. Fain; daughters Angela (David) Bush of Monroe, N.C., and Tracy (Dean) Brown of Frankfort; granddaughters Kara Michelle Bush and Hannah Marie Brown; a sister, Roma Kay (Jerry) Nickels of McArthur; a niece, Audra (Lou) DiOrio, and a great-niece, Isabelle DiOrio of Columbus; and a niece and nephew, Tom and Ashley Swaim of Mount Gilead.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Larry R. Swaim, and nephew Brent Nickels.

Services will be held Monday, 1 p.m., at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur, with the Rev. Wayne Young officiating. Burial will be in Elk Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on today from 4 to 9 p.m.

Dessie Douglas Boggess
Died: Sunday, April 27, 2003
Age: 78

RACINE -- Dessie Douglas Boggess, 78, of Racine, died Sunday, April 27, 2003, at Overbrook Center in Middleport.

Born June 16, 1924, in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Ruth Ann Barnhart Douglas.

Services will be Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Cremeens Funeral Home. Burial will be in Letart Falls Cemetery, Racine.

Friends may call at the funeral home today, 6 to 8 p.m.

Kyle Anthony Sadlowski
Died: Sunday, April 27, 2003
Age: 16

LOGAN -- Kyle Anthony Sadlowski, 16, of Logan, died Sunday, April 27, 2003, as the result of an auto accident.

Born Jan. 6, 1987, in Bradenton, Fla., he was the son of Kevin Sadlowski of Florida and April Ritchie of Logan. He was a sophomore at Logan High School.

He is survived by brothers Stephen D. Helmick of Bradenton, Sebastian Price of Madison, Ga., and Skylar Price of Logan; a sister, Autumn Ritchie of Logan; grandparents Jerry and Marla Sadlowski, Donald and Sandra Ritchie, Gladys and Roger Shaw, and Janet and Don Broeckel; a great-grandmother, Edith Moore; and a special uncle, Richard Ritchie. Kyle also was survived by a girlfriend, Rebekah Thompson.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Anastasia Gavaloras, and he died with a special friend, Michael Paul Williams.

Services will be held Thursday, 10 a.m., at Cardaras Funeral Home, Logan, with the Rev. Phil Ridenour officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
