Age: 65
NELSONVILLE - Rodney D. Auflick, 65, of Sheffield, Pa., died unexpectedly Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, at his residence.
Born May 22, 1938, in Nelsonville, he was the son of the late James and Blanche Matheny Auflick. He had lived in Sheffield since 1964 and retired from GTE Sylvania after 38 years. He was a member of Sheffield VFW, Sheffield Rod and Gun, Eagles and American Legion. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Tanguy Auflick, whom he married on Sept. 17, 1956, in Nelsonville; children Patricia Vukich and Mary Kay Auflick of Sheffield, John Auflick of Jamestown, N.Y., and Cassandra Auflick of Florida; two brothers, Bob Auflick of Logan and John Auflick of Pittsfield, Pa; two sisters, Garnett McAllister of Athens and Blanche Martin of Westerville; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced. Arrangements are by Borden-Lloyd Funeral Home, Sheffield.

Marjorie Marie Bentley

Age: 80
NELSONVILLE - Marjorie Marie Bentley, 80, of Nelsonville, passed away Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, at Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville.
She was born Jan. 13, 1923, on Big Bailey Run, the daughter of the late Robert and Polly McKinney Bullock. She was the window of Robert Bentley, who passed away in 1993.
Marjorie was a homemaker all her life. She was a member of the Wesleyan Church and the former Sunshine Club of Floodwood. She was an avid quilter, and ran a strawberry farm for many years with her family.
Marjorie is survived by sons Tom (Annette) Bentley and Storm Bentley, both of Nelsonville; daughters Marjorie “Susie” (John) Phillips of Nelsonville, Sandy (Tom) Taggart of Buchtel, Christy Conkey of Lancaster and Jody (Bill) Whitlatch of Nelsonville; grandchildren John Huddy, T.L., Shawn and Adam Bentley, Michelle Andrews, Christopher and Jeromy Schultz, Tom “Pete,” Todd and Shannon Taggart, Rob Bentley, Eric and Jenny Conkey, Lacey, Jaime, Derreck, Ashley and Jordan Whitlatch; brothers Dick (Trudy) Bullock of Carbon Hill, Charles (Francis) Bullock of Chauncey and Paul (Betty) Bullock of Millfield; sisters Pauline Simpson of Chauncey, Helen (Rolland) Slisher of Chauncey and Lucille Sisson of Powhaten Point, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a a brother, Lawrence Bullock; sisters Iva Bullock, Edna Stalling and Maxine Smith; and an infant daughter, Linda Bentley.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., at the Nelsonville Wesleyan Church with Pastor Mike Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, new addition, in Nelsonville.
Friends may call Wednesday, 4 to 9 p.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville, and one hour before the funeral at the church.

Jesse Virgene Duncan

Age: 86
WEST LAFAYETTE - Jessie Virgene Duncan, 86, of 324 Fairview St., and formerly of South Second Street, Coshocton, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, at 10:25 p.m. at West Lafayette Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Born Dec. 28, 1916, in Morgan County, she was the daughter of Jesse and Vera Beard Mills. On Oct. 9, 1941, she married Leland H. Duncan, who survives. She formerly had been employed at Ohio University and Fairmont Foods before moving to Coshocton in 1968.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a grandson, Bryan James Duncan.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Carl Duncan, on June 14, 1989, and Donald Lee Duncan, on Nov. 4, 1953; a brother, Lloyd Mills; and two sisters, Inez Loos and Marie Beard.
Funeral services will be Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at Free Funeral Home, Coshocton, with Pastor A.B. Cordray officiating. Burial will be in Alexander Cemetery, Athens County, on Thursday at 3 p.m.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday, 5 to 7 p.m., and Thursday until time of services.
Helen V. Criswell Boyle
Died: Saturday, August 23, 2003
Age: 71
LOGAN - Helen V. “Nanny” Criswell Boyle, 71, of Logan, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital.
Born Oct. 12, 1931, in Ashland, Ky., she was the daughter of Myrtle Grizzel Richards of Logan and Ercel Criswell.
A funeral Mass will be Wednesday, 10 a.m., at St. John Catholic Church, Logan. Burial will be in New Fairview Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call at Roberts Funeral Home, Logan, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., where a Christian Vigil service will be held at 7:30.
Roy Dale Bennett Sr.

BARTLETT - Roy Dale Bennett Sr., 83, of Bartlett, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at Selby Hospital, Marietta.
Born Dec. 25, 1919, in Gas Town, he was the son of the late John W. and LaVaughn M. Wilson Bennett. He was a retired inspector for the Ohio Department of Transportation, a World War II Army veteran of the 41st Division, and a member of Bartlett United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 64 Marietta, and Washington County Soldier and Sailors Relief. He was a former trustee for Wesley Twp., a former chief for the Wesley Twp. Volunteer Fire Department, and the oldest living past commander of VFW Post 5108 Marietta.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice D. Gould Bennett, whom he married on July 31, 1945; two sons, Roy D. Bennett Sr. of North Carolina and James R. Bennett of Marietta; a daughter, Cynthia Jane Bennett of Belpre; three sisters, Hazel Davis of Barlow, Nellie Newsom of The Plains and Ruth Thompson of Athens; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Anna LaVaughn Bennett, and seven brothers.
Services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home, Chesterhill. Burial and graveside military rites will be held in Bartlett Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Irene McQuaid
Died: Saturday, August 23, 2003
Age: 93
NELSONVILLE - Irene McQuaid, 93, of Nelsonville, passed away Friday, Aug. 23, 2003, at Doctors Hospital, Nelsonville.
Born Oct. 13, 1910, in Logan, she was the daughter of the late Wesley and Sylvia Johnson Teal. She was the widow of William Marshall McQuaid, who passed away in 1971.
Irene was a homemaker all her life. She dearly loved her family, sewing, cooking, gardening and her special apple tree. She previously attended the Nelsonville Christian Church.
She is survived by sons Donald McQuaid of Tampa, Fla., and Gary (Charlotte) McQuaid of Plant City, Fla.; daughters Jean Fouty, Ruth McDaniel, Marleen Brown and Sheila June McQuaid, all of Nelsonville, Judy Wray of Logan, Carol (John) Meyers, Patricia Irene (David) Hartshorn, both of Bremen, and Jane (Roger) Reed of Junction City. Irene had 45 grandchildren; 86 great-grandchildren, 45 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, George (Lucy) Teal of Mount Vernon.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara; a son, George; a sister, Monabell; and brothers Oscar, Jim, John, Melvin, Bobby, Frank and Charles.
Funeral services will be held at Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville, with Roger Reed officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Nelsonville.
Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Edward J. Schaefer
Died: Saturday, August 23, 2003
Age: 80
POMEROY - Edward J. “Buck” Schaefer, 80, of Pomeroy, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at the Darst Group Home, Pomeroy.
Born June 2, 1923, in Pomeroy, he was the son of the late Edward and Maude Swauger Schaefer. He retired from the Meigs County Highway Department in 1985.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Smith Schaefer.
He is survived by a sister-in-law, Jean Smith Seidenabel; a nephew, Edward Gordon, and several nieces, other nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Ewing Funeral Home, Pomeroy.
Calling hours will be Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Pomeroy.
Frances E. McClintick
Died: Thursday, October 30, 2003
Age: 80
ATHENS - Frances E. McClintick, 80, of Athens, went to be with the Lord, singing with the angels, early Thursday morning, Oct. 30, 2003, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.
Born Feb. 27, 1923, in Meigs County, she was the daughter of the late the Rev. Herbert and Gladys Taggart Harris. A graduate of Racine High School, she was formerly employed by Athens Mental Health Center.
She is survived by daughters Fran (Denver) Keirns of Millfield, Amber Collins of Chipley, Fla., Tedi Star Downen of Millfield and Ellen McClintick of Orlando, Fla.; sons Herb (Sylvia) McClintick and Lawrence McClintick, both of Rhonda, N.C.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a sister, Gloria Parsons of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Betty Harris of The Plains.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ward McClintick; a sister, Maxine Cummins; and a brother, Harlan Harris.
A memorial service will be held Monday, 5 p.m., at Hooper Ridge Church. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.
There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens.
Watson E. Mayle
Died: Thursday, October 30, 2003
Age: 57
CHESTERHILL - Watson E. Mayle, 57, of Columbus, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, at Kobacker House, Columbus.
Born Dec. 28, 1945, in Sharpsburg, he was the son of Dycle E. and Beulah E. Mayle. He is survived by his wife, Ladyne Hill Mayle; a son, Marvin Mayle; and a daughter, Renee Caughey.
Services will be Monday, 1 p.m., at Mount Hermon Church near Amesville. Burial will be in Mount Hermon Cemetery.
