Margaret Lucille Scott

Age: 90
ATHENS - Margaret Lucille Scott, 90, of Athens, died Friday evening, August 22, 2003, at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 15, 1912, in Guysville, she was the daughter of the late Victor O. and Eva Fulton Carpenter.
Lucille graduated from Camden Clark School of Nursing and followed with a fulfilling nursing career. After many years of service, she retired as an Athens County public health nurse. She went on to work at the tuberculosis hospital in Nelsonville and then retired from Kimes Convalescent Center in Athens. Lucille was a member of the Clarks Chapel Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Keith Scott; a sister, Lillian L. Cooley of Athens; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Cantner; and an infant brother.
Services will be held Tuesday at 1:00 p.m., at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, with Pastor H. Willard Love officiating. Burial will be at Clarks Chapel Cemetery.

Walter H. Harden

McARTHUR - Walter H. Harden, 88, of McArthur, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at the Chillicothe Veterans Administration Hospital.
Born Feb. 12, 1915, in Vinton County, he was the son of the late Bundy W. and Belle Hawkins Harden.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Elk Cemetery, McArthur. Military services will be conducted by Vinton County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5299.

John Nicholas Eberst

Age: 87
COLUMBUS - John Nicholas Eberst, 87, of Columbus, formerly of Logan, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at St. Ann’s Hospital, Westerville.
Born May 31, 1916, in Logan, he was the son of the late John Edward and Marie Catherine Kilbarger Eberst.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Oak Grove Cemetery, Logan, with Msgr. William A. Dunn officiating.
Friends may call Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, Logan.

MIDDLEPORT - Dennis L. Hart, 51, of Middleport, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at his residence.
Born Feb. 23, 1952, in Pomeroy, he was the son of the late Gilbert C. and Audrey Hayman Hart.
He is survived by daughters Melissa Hart and Michelle Hart.
Graveside funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at the Greenwood Cemetery, Racine. Calling hours will be held at the Cremeens Funeral Home, Racine, Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Wilma Rose Brown
Died: Friday, August 22, 2003
Age: 95
NELSONVILLE - Wilma Rose Brown, 95, passed away Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at Doctors Hospital, Nelsonville.
Born June 14, 1908, in Athens County, she was the was daughter of the late Watson and Ivy Whitlatch Hill. She was the widow of Weldon E. “Brownie” Brown.
She is survived by a son, Ralph and Mary Brown of Athens; two grandsons and their wives, Jeff and Michell Brown of Nelsonville and Melvin and Brenda Brown of Athens; and three great grandchildren, John, Amy and Ray Brown.
In addition to her parents and her husband, a sister, Ella Sanner, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville, with the Rev. David Cogar officiating. Burial will be at McDougal Cemetery, Athens County.

CHILLICOTHE - Raymond B. Tennant, 80, of Chillicothe, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at the Chillicothe VA Medical Center.
Born Sept. 18, 1922, in Ray, he was the son of the late Wayne and Ollie Branscom Tennant. He is survived by sons Jerry and Darrell Tennant, and daughters Sherry Hassler, Debbie Tennant and Rayme Lynn Meadows.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, with a procession forming at Jenkins Funeral Home, Wellston.

Abbie Warner Stratton

POMEROY - Abbie Warner Stratton, 79, of Pomeroy, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, in Gallipolis.
Born Jan. 23, 1924, in Pomeroy, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Ada Roush Warner.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Stratton.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, 2 p.m., at Pomeroy Baptist Church. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery.

William Powell

ATHENS -- William Powell, 74, of Athens, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at Heartland of Browning.
He was a retired carpenter and a retired Army veteran who served during the Korean War at Fort Campbell, Ky., and in Germany. In 1949, he married Aldena Cain, who is now deceased. He was a member of K.T. Crossen Post 21 American Legion, Athens VFW Post 3477 and Athens AMVETS.
He is survived by daughters Connie (Neil) Hawk of Fayetteville, N.C., Bonnie (Dan) Thomas of Bryan, Linda Ryan of Loveland, Colo., and Anna Marie (Phil) Deputy of Chauncey; a son, Paul "Ray" Powell of Chauncey; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; sisters Eileen Peevler of Columbus and Helen Bethel of Coshocton; a brother, Roger Powell of Columbus; and special friends Joanne Worstall of The Plains and Hazel Hoffman of Athens.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughters, Donna Jean Powell and Billie Jo Carr.
Services will be held Sunday, 1:30 p.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, with John Elswick officiating. Burial will be in The Plains Cemetery, with military rites conducted by K.T. Crossen Post 21 and VFW Post 3477.

Johnny Ray Riley

ATHENS -- Johnny Ray Riley, 25, of Athens, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, from injuries received in an auto accident.
Born June 6, 1977, in Athens, he was the son of Paul Ray (Peggy) Riley and Kathy Kennedy Riley of Athens. He was a construction worker and an avid outdoorsman.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife Jamie; two daughters, Justice and Josie, both of the home; a sister, Beth Ann Riley of Athens; a nephew, Curtis; and a niece, Marybeth; paternal grandparents Vern Riley and Thelma Riley, both of Athens; and a father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Nellie Barnhart of Athens.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Wanda Kennedy.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, with Pastor Michael Rose officiating.

Helen Jenkins Perkins

WELLSTON -- Helen Jenkins Perkins, 77, of Wellston, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at Jenkins Memorial Nursing Facility.
Born Aug. 9, 1925, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late George and Margaret Cartwright. She is survived by daughters Nancy Denney, Debbie Gillem and Pam Camink; and sons Floyd, Steve and Jeffrey Jenkins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Perkins; and a son, Billy Jenkins.
Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at McWilliams Funeral Home, Wellston. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery.
