WELLSTON -- Emily Jane Watters Leach died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at her home.
She is survived by her fiancˇ, Gene Walton Brewer; her mother, Barbara A. Walton; and a son and a daughter. She was preceded in death by her father, David J. Watters.
There will be no funeral services or calling hours. Arrangements are by J.P. Rogers Funeral Home, Wellston.
Jerry D. Eads

POMEROY -- Jerry D. Eads, 61, of Pomeroy, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.
Born July 19, 1941, in Gallia County, he was the son of the late Charles Emory and Garnet Lucille Grover Eads. He is survived by his wife, Louise Parsons Eads, and sons Todd, Shawn and Kent Eads.
Services will be Saturday, 11 a.m, at Fisher Funeral Home, Pomeroy. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Middleport.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
James Fredrick Hanna
Died: Tuesday, March 04, 2003
Age: 62
MILLFIELD -- James Fredrick Hanna, 62, died Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at Kimes Convalescent Center, after an extended illness.
Born Feb. 9, 1941, he was the son of the late Lyle H. and Lavina Hanna. He was a retired carnival worker and resided in Florida for many years.
He is survived by a brother, Larry of Lancaster; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vickie and Denver Brown of Millfield, and Tammy and Joe Jordan of Albany; a son, Royce of Reynoldsburg; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild; and a special friend, Mary Peyton of Washington C.H.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Hanna; and a niece, Teresa McMullin.
A memorial service will be held Friday, 2 p.m., at Poston United Methodist Church on Route 550, with Bill O'Brien officiating.
Ruth Elizabeth Fick

Age: 76
NELSONVILLE -- Ruth Elizabeth Fick, 76, of Nelsonville, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at Sunbridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, New Lexington.
Born June 28, 1926, in Nelsonville, she was the daughter of the late Granville and Flossie Standall Green. She was the widow of the late Charles Edward Fick.
She was a retired custodian for Nelsonville-York City Schools and a member of Nelsonville First United Methodist Church, where she and her husband were custodians and caretakers for many years.
She is survived by two sons, Charles (Carole) Fick of Fairplay, Colo., and Mark (Karon) Fick of Nelsonville; a daughter, Amy (Merv) Davis of Nelsonville; two grandsons, Brice (Lori) Fick of Nelsonville and Ethan (Kim) Fick of Allentown, Pa.; two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Sidney; a sister, Dorothy Lang of Doanville; a sister-in-law, Jean Howe of Marietta; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at Nelsonville First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Gary Carlson officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville.
Friends may call at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville, today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and at the church on Friday one hour prior to services.

Ilia Mae Rife Konkler

Age: 78
BUCHTEL -- Ilia Mae Rife Konkler, 78, of Lancaster, the wife of Edward Konkler, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at Grant Medical Center, Columbus.
Born Nov. 12, 1924, she was the youngest daughter of John and Emma Griffis Rife. She was a native of Buchtel. She retired from Wm. Brooks Shoe Co. with 20 years of service.
She will be sadly missed by her husband; six children, Sharon, Linda, Donna, David, Steven and Diana; two stepchildren, Linda and Doug; 22 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson; her beloved sister, Evelyn Garner of New Lexington; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, eight sisters, six brothers and a grandson.
Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., in Frank E. Smith Funeral Chapel, Lancaster, with the Rev. Thomas P. Rogers of Sixth Avenue United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
George Leroy Clark
Died: Monday, March 03, 2003
Age: 75
NELSONVILLE -- George Leroy Clark, 75, of Wasilla, Alaska, died March 3, 2003, at Valley Hospital in Palmer, Alaska.
Mr. Clark was born April 17, 1927, in Nelsonville. He was a graduate of Nelsonville High School in 1945. He worked for Stalwart Rubber Co. in Bedford, Ohio, for 40 years. George and his wife, Evelyn, moved to Alaska in June 1979 when he retired. He worked for Rent-A-Wreck in Anchorage for five years. George's hobbies included reading, fishing and traveling.
His family said, "George will be remembered as a very soft-spoken gentleman who would always go out of his way to offer assistance to one and all. He has never been known to speak an ill word of anyone. His family was always very important to him."
Mr. Clark is survived by his wife, Evelyn Clark of Wasilla; his brother and sister-in-law, Rex S. and Cledythe Clark of Athens; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Karen Graham of New Philadelphia; nephews Robert Clark of Flint, Mich., John Clark of Westerville and Randy and Lonn Graham of Fort Myers, Fla.; and nieces Stephanie Reitmann of New Philadelphia and Sharon Dotson of Columbus.
Memorial services and the scattering of Mr. Clark's ashes at Deep Creek in Ninilchik will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are by Valley Funeral Home, Wasilla, Alaska.
Alberta Francis

LOGAN -- Alberta Francis, 75, of Lecanto, Fla., formerly of Rockbridge, died Monday, March 3, 2003, at her residence.
Born Feb. 28, 1928, in Genoa, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Albert and Alice Bellamy Jackson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Francis.
Services will be Saturday, 11:30 a.m., at Logan First Baptist Church.

Brynn Alise Scarrett
Died: Sunday, March 02, 2003
HAMDEN -- Brynn Alise Scarrett, four-day-old daughter of Bryan Ray and Wendy Dixon Scarrett of Hamden, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2003, at Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus.
She was born Feb. 26, 2003, in Columbus.
Besides her parents, she is survived by a twin sister, Hanna; another sister, Katelyn Scarrett; grandparents Michael and Valerie Dixon of McArthur, Jeannie and Gary Pugh of Wellston, Robin and Gary Scarrett of Hamden; several great-grandparents, a great-great-grandfather, four uncles and several cousins.
Graveside services were held today at Elk Cemetery, McArthur, with the Rev. Glen Herman officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur.
Medrith L. Jarvis

TRIMBLE -- Medrith L. Jarvis, 86, formerly of Trimble, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2003, at her residence in Gahanna.
Born March 25, 1916, in Trimble, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Tullis and Armol Cobb Rainey. She was the widow of Charles O. Jarvis.
Mrs. Jarvis was a member of Trimble Methodist Church and the Grey Ladies, a former member of Eastern Star and a former employee of Burr Oak State Park Lodge.
She is survived by a son, Jeffrey (Linda) Jarvis of Tallmadge; two daughters, Jayne (Frank) Poches and Jennifer Kane (George Casper), both of Gahanna; six grandchildren, Randy (Krista) Jarvis, Todd (Melissa) Jarvis, Greg (Marlene) Poches, Jeff Poches, Brian Kane and Jessica Kane; six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Rainey and Donald Marsh; and two sisters, Dorothy Rainey and Thelma Fleming.
Services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Cardaras Funeral Home, Glouster, with John Wright officiating. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Glouster.

Bernard McKinniss
Died: Sunday, March 02, 2003
Age: 74
WELLSTON -- Retired Wellston businessman George Bernard McKinniss, 74, died at his home early Sunday morning, March 2, 2003, following an extended illness.
Born Feb. 18, 1929, in Wellston, he was the son of the late George R. and Bertha G. Gilliland McKinniss.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara McHenry McKinniss; three sons and their wives, Ray and Teri Ann, Terry and Faith, all of Gallipolis, and Chris and Rachel of Mansfield; seven grandsons, Heath, Justin, Travis, Rex, Morgan, Quenton and Griffon, all of Gallipolis; two granddaughters, Niki of Gallipolis and Kjersten of Mansfield; a brother, Stan, and his wife, Barbara, of Athens; as well as four nieces and a nephew.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ruby Wood.
Bernard was the owner and publisher of the Wellston Telegram and McKinniss' Telegram Printers. He was an active member of Hope United Methodist Church in Wellston, where he sang in the choir for more than 50 years. He was a member and past master of Black Diamond Lodge 538 F&AM Chapter 174, Council 120 and Ohio Valley Commandery 024. He served as secretary of Wellston Masonic bodies for more than 20 years, and also served as education officer for the 12th Masonic District.
He served as scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 57 and was recognized by Chief Logan Council for his leadership. He was a charter member of Wellston Ohillco Society as well as the Wellston Historical Association, for which he had served as vice president and member of the board of trustees since the Association's formation. He was a Korean War veteran, having served with the United States Amry and the Air Force Reserves.
Bernard was a 1947 graduate of Wellston High School. In recent years, he was associated with French City Press of Gallipolis and Woolums Business Products of Jackson.
Services will be held Wednesday, 10 a.m., at Hope United Methodist Church, Wellston, with the Revs. Glen Herman and Bob Davis officiating. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by American Legion Post 371 of Wellston.
Friends may call at McWilliams Funeral Home, Wellston, on Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m., where Masonic services will beheld at 7:30.
