Glen O. Garlinger
Died: Monday, December 23, 2002
Age: 85
LOGAN -- Glen O. Garlinger, 85, of Logan, formerly of Buchtel, passed away on Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital in Logan.
Born Jan. 28, 1917, in Buchtel, he was the son of the late Thomas and Ruby Nell Ball Garlinger. He was the widower of Abby Jane Rose Garlinger. He was retired from Union Metal in Canton and was a World War II Navy veteran. He attended Buchtel United Methodist Church.
He is survived by a sister, Eileen Ruthrauff of Youngstown; his fiancee, Madeline Wagner of Buchtel; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and Paul Garlinger.
Services will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home in Nelsonville, with Pastor David Shoemaker officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Nelsonville, with military graveside services conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Frederick G. Henry
Died: Monday, December 23, 2002
Age: 61
ATHENS -- Frederick G. Henry, 61, passed away on Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, in Columbus. He was born Aug. 5, 1941, in Greenville, S.C.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia R. Henry, associate professor of music at Ohio University. He also is survived by his brother, Walter C. Henry of Central, S.C.; his niece, Carri Uram of Greenville; and his nephew, John Dwight Henry of Wesson, Miss.
He received a bachelors degree in math from Columbia University and masters degrees in economics and computer science from the University of Virginia. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and received honors at the Institute of Far Eastern Languages in Chinese at Yale University, as part of his preparation for duty during the Vietnam War. He was retired from AT&T Bell Labs, where he was a computer engineer. He enjoyed composing music, and his music was performed by musicians in China.
A graveside service will be held Monday, 10:30 a.m., at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, with the Rev. Reid Lehman officiating.
Arrangements are by McAfee Funeral Home in Greenville.
Carl E. Anderson

ROCKBRIDGE -- Carl E. Anderson, 73, of Rockbridge, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, in Lancaster.
Born Aug. 7, 1929, in Hocking County, he was the son of the late Ross J. and Carrie A. Flowers Anderson.
He is survived by his wife, Gussie Anderson; and children Danny L. Anderson, Janet L. Six and Donnie E. Anderson.
Services will be held Tuesday, 1 p.m., at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home in Logan. Burial will be in New Fairview Cemetery, Rockbridge.

William Gordon Chilton

LOGAN -- William Gordon Chilton, 84, of Logan, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at Arcadia Acres Nursing Home.
Born Jan. 25, 1918, in Frazee, Minn., he was the son of the late Howard Henry and Margaret Catherin Robinson Chilton.
Services will be held Friday, 10 a.m., at Roberts Funeral Home in Logan. Burial will be in Knollwood Cemetery, Falls Twp., Hocking County.

Elizabeth Gluesencamp Carpenter

PORTLAND -- Elizabeth Gluesencamp Carpenter, 95, of Portland, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at Camden-Clark Hospital in Parkersburg, W.Va.
Born Dec. 18, 1907, in Stiversville, she was the daughter of the late Julius and Nellie Barringer Gluesencamp.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Carpenter; and two infant sons.
Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Freedom Gospel Mission, Baldknobs-Stiversville Road, Portland. Burial will be in Baldknobs Cemetery.

Ethel Fern Gordon

Age: 91
LOGAN -- Ethel Fern Gordon, 91, of Logan, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at Logan Health Care Center.
Born March 26, 1911, in Hocking County, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Daisy Butina Redd Derr.
She is survived by her husband, Carl Emerson Gordon.
A memorial service and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are by Roberts Funeral Home in Logan.
Raymond L. Cole
Died: Saturday, December 21, 2002
Age: 83
POMEROY -- Raymond L. Cole, 83, of Pomeroy, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at Overbrook Center, Middleport.
Born May 14, 1919, in Richmond, Va., he was the son of the late Conley Trigg Cole and Cora Mae Cox Cole.
He is survived by his wife, Farie Milhoan Cole; and children Rayanna Stinson and David L. Cole.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Ewing Funeral Home, Pomeroy. Burial will be in Gilmore Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
John Craig
Died: Saturday, December 21, 2002
Age: 66
HEMLOCK -- John Craig, 66, of Hemlock, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at his daughter's home in Lancaster.
Born July 27, 1936, in Nellie, he was the son of the late Lawrence Theron and Rose Mary Craig. He was a self-employed logger, an employee of Central Ohio Coal, and sold firewood.
He is survived by his wife, Dixie Post Craig; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Theodore "Fred" Tom Sr. of Lancaster; grandsons Theodore "Ted" Tom Jr. and his fiancee, Maria Schooley, and Theron "Bubba" Tom, all of Lancaster; sisters Lynda Childers and Elsie Searls, both of Tampa, Fla., Barb Sikorski of Warren, Mich.; a brother and sister-in-law, Fritz and Mona Craig of Jacksonville; his father-in-law, Robert Post of Corning; his dogs, Maxine and Stiner; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Marvel Post.
Services will be held Tuesday, 11 a.m., at J.E. Humphrey Funeral Home, 118 W. Walnut St., Shawnee. Interment will be in Springer Cemetery, Hemlock.
Friends may call at the funeral home today after 5 p.m., and on Tuesday one hour prior to services.

Gertrude E. Neigler

RACINE -- Gertrude E. Neigler, 83, of Racine, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at Overbrook Center in Middleport.
Born July 6, 1919, in Syracuse, she was the daughter of the late John and Lillian Matthews Duffy.
She is survived by a son, Jack Duffy.
Services will be held Tuesday, 11 a.m., at Cremeens Funeral Home in Racine. Burial will be in Letart Falls Cemetery.
