McARTHUR -- Larry E. Quick, 63, of McArthur, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at his residence.
Born June 7, 1939, in Knox Twp., Vinton County, he was the son of the late Edward J. and Merle Perry Quick.
He is survived by a son, Eric Quick.
There will be no funeral service or calling hours. Burial will be held at a later date in Coalton Memory Gardens.
Virgene Mayle Kennedy
Died: Friday, December 20, 2002
Age: 82
CUTLER -- Virgene Mayle Kennedy, 82, of Cutler, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002 at her residence.
Born June 10, 1920, in Cutler, she was the daughter of the late Osmer and Elzina Mayle Kennedy.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Kennedy.
She is survived by six children, Larry, Mitchell, Kevin and Ronald and Joyce Kennedy, and Sherry Ogden.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Cutler Mission, Cutler. Burial will be in Harris Cemetery.
Calling hours are today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home, Chesterhill, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Betty Jean Green
Died: Thursday, December 19, 2002
Age: 40
ATHENS -- Betty Jean Green, 40, of Athens, died unexpectedly late Thursday evening, Dec. 19, 2002.
Born Nov. 6, 1962, she was the daughter of Bob and Mary Young Russ of Athens. A 1981 graduate of Alexander High School, she was an administrative associate in the College of Education at Ohio University.
Besides her parents, she is survived by a daughter, Amy (Norman) Roberts of Parkersburg, W.Va.; two sons, Richard Green and Andrew Green, both of Athens; a grandson, Justin Roberts of Parkersburg; three sisters, Carolyn (David) Axsom of Athens, Peggy (John) Adams of Urbana, Ill., and Barbara (Ronnie) Mash of Athens; and her fiancˇ, Herb Mitchem of Athens.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, conducted by David Axsom. Burial will be in New Marshfield Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
John W. Lemon
Died: Thursday, December 19, 2002
Age: 76
CUTLER -- John W. Lemon, 76, of Cutler, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at his residence.
Born March 26, 1926, in Columbus, he was the son of the late James and Martha Lemon. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Beha Lemon.
He is survived by six children, John Lemon Jr., Nancy Dowler, Richard Lemon, Ronald L. Lemon, Melinda White and Cindy Vogelsong.
Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Parkersburg, W.Va. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Walker, W.Va., with full military rites by American Legion Post 15. Calling hours were held on Saturday.

Carlos L. Calentine
Died: Friday, December 27, 2002
Age: 78
LANCASTER -- Carlos L. Calentine, 78, of Lancaster, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at Fairfield Medical Center.
He was a member of Maple Street United Methodist Church and retired from Commercial Motor Freight. He was a Yorkrite Mason, member of the Easter Star, White Shrines Masonic Lodge and a WWII navy veteran.
He is survived by his son, Steven W. Calentine, of Virginia; daughter Diane K. (Lawrence) Lax, of Lancaster; granddaughter Kathern (Greg) Milke, of Illinois; great-grandson Justin Milke; sisters Laura (John) Joos of Florida, Faye Evans and Ruth Brown, both of Lancaster, and Louise Richmond, of West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Della Mae Calentine; parents Herbert and May Calentine; brother Delbert Calentine; and a nephew.
Funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Halterman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home, Lancaster, with the Rev. Don Meadows and the Rev. Larry Swaisgood officiating. Burial will be at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, where the Lancaster Veterans Burial Detail will conduct services.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., with a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m.

Robert L. Day
Died: Friday, December 27, 2002
Age: 78
NEW STRAITSVILLE -- Robert L. Day, 78, of New Straitsville, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at his residence.
Born Oct. 27, 1924, in Buchtel, he was the son of the late Arthur and Beatrice Pearl Lewis Day. He is survived by his wife, Anna May Welsh Day; sons David and Nathan Day; and daughter Rebecca Reece.
Funeral services are Monday at 2 p.m. at United Pentecostal Church, Nelsonville. Burial will be in New Fairview Cemetery, Hocking County, where military graveside services will be conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit.
Friends may call at Warren-Brown Funeral Home, Nelsonville, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and at the church Monday one hour prior to services.
Opal Louise McBride
Died: Friday, December 27, 2002
Age: 87
ATHENS -- Opal Louise McBride, 87, of Athens, died early Friday morning, Dec. 27, 2002, at Rock Springs Rehabilitation Center, Pomeroy.
Born Dec. 10, 1915, in Canaan Twp., Athens County, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Abigale Cline Gould. A graduate of The Plains High School, she was formerly office manager for Children's and Family Services. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Martha Circle United Methodist Women, Business and Professional Women's Club, Higley Study Circle and a life member of Alpha XI Delta Sorority, where she had formerly been a house mother.
She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn (Dan) Klingenberg of Charleston, Ill.; two sons, Joseph L. (Laile) McBride of Zanesville and Ronald W. (Ruth) McBride of Nicholsville, Ky.; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Roger (Marie) Gould of Tacoma, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Capt. Joseph W.; an infant daughter, Barbara Ann; sisters Marianna Linscott and Edna Moore; and brothers Paul, Dan and William Gould.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, conducted by the Rev. Mary Jo Yeakel. Burial will be in West Union Street Cemetery.

Wanda F. McKee

Age: 68
CORNING -- Wanda F. McKee, 68, of Corning, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at her residence.
Born Sept. 16, 1934, in Glouster, she was the daughter of the late Cliff and Rosa North Rutter. She was a member of the Glouster Mission.
She is survived by her sons, Melvin H. McKee of Corning, Randy McKee of Corning, Steve McKee and special friend Helen Mace of Hollister, James Martin of Hollister and Daniel Martin of Corning; daughters Mrs. Larry (Rose) Benhart of Hollister and Sandy McKee and special friend Chuck Danner of Corning; 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; brother Ed (Linda) Rutter of Glouster; and sisters Betty (Lee) Yocum of Corning, Leona (Fred) Springer of Columbus and Cheryl Rhodes of Hurricane, W.Va.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin H. McKee Sr., who passed away July 12, 1999, and by a brother, Bill Smith.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Murray City, with the Rev. James Brown officiating. Burial will be in Millertown Oakwood Cemetery, Corning.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from noon until the time of services.
Dorothy E. Hoffman
Died: Thursday, December 26, 2002
Age: 75
LOGAN -- Dorothy E. Hoffman, 75, of Logan, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, at Logan Health Care Center.
Born May 15, 1927, in Logan, she was the daughter of the late Frank W. and Lola Booth Tipton.
Mrs. Hoffman donated her body to the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. There will be no services at this time.
Arrangements are by Cardaras Funeral Home in Logan.
