William W. Sanborn

NELSONVILLE -- William W. Sanborn, 74, of Clarkdale, Ariz., died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002.
He was born Nov. 13, 1928, in Longstreth. He graduated from the University of Orono in Bangor, Maine, and retired from GTE Sylvania.
Survivors include his wife, Garnet; two daughters, Debbie of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Rita of Russell, Pa.; two sons, Billy and Steve of Flagstaff; a sister, Merry Gold; and brothers, John of Columbus and Jim of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Nora Sanborn; and a brother, Nick Sanborn.
Burial was in Flagstaff.
John Stewart
Died: Friday, January 10, 2003
Age: 75
TROY -- John "Jack" Stewart, 75, of Troy, died at his residence early Friday morning, Jan. 10, 2003.
Born in Athens on July 23, 1927, he was the son of the late John W. and Gertrude Atkinson Stewart.
He was a retired letter carrier, having worked out of the Athens Post Office for 31 years. A 1945 graduate of Athens High School, he was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Athens. A veteran of the Army, he served during World War II. He was a member of K.T. Crossen Post 21 American Legion and Athens Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3477.
He is survived by a son, David W. Stewart of Florida; stepdaughters Sally Glover of Athens, Sue (Clifford) Lamborn of Massillon and Jennifer (David) Fuller of Troy; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rachael (Jackie), in 1995, and an infant brother, Robert Allen Stewart.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date by Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens.
Roy W. Taylor
Died: Friday, January 10, 2003
Age: 83
ATHENS -- Roy W. Taylor, 83, of Jackson, died late Friday evening, Jan. 10, 2003, at Holzer Medical Center, Jackson.
Born in Hockingport, on Oct. 1, 1919, he was the son of the late John L. and Neva Ann Blake Taylor. He was retired from Royal McBee Corp. in 1972. He attended schools in Mineral and New Marshfield. He was a former resident of New Marshfield, Chauncey and Athens before moving to Jackson. He was a member of Holiness Wesleyan Church, Jackson.
He is survived by his wife, Edna Belle McNutt Taylor; a daughter, Donna (Homer) Exline of Jackson; a son, Earl Richard (Mildred) Haines of Athens; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Clarice (Pearl) Hunter and Ada (George) Gabriel, both of Athens.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Violet Chancey; two sisters, Bessie Rosser and Nora Dowler; and three brothers, Delmar, Emmett and Ike Taylor.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, conducted by the Rev. Dan Brown. Burial will be in New Marshfield Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Winfield R. VanMeter
Died: Friday, January 10, 2003
Age: 81
MASON, W.Va. -- Winfield R. "Winnie" VanMeter, 81, of Mason, W.Va., died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at Pleasant Valley Hospital, Point Pleasant.
Born April 14, 1921, in West Columbia, W.Va., he was the son of the late Okey Sr. and Katie VanMeter.
He is survived by his wife, Betty J. VanMeter; a son, Henry VanMeter; and daughters Jacqueline Ohlinger, Sylvia Johnson and Ilene Mossman. He was preceded in death by a son, Winfield VanMeter Jr.
Services will were today at Foglesong-Tucker Funeral Home, Mason, with buria in Graham Cemetery, New Haven, W.Va.

Janie Ann Fitch Gilpen

WELLSTON -- Janie Ann Fitch Gilpen, 46, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at her home.
Born Oct. 18, 1956, in Chillicothe, she was the daughter of the late Ira and Jean Collins Fitch. She is survived by her husband, Lloyd; and a stepson, Andy.
Services will be Saturday, 11 a.m., at J.P. Rogers Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery.

David Arthur Meyer

Age: 58
ATHENS -- David Arthur Meyer, 58, of Athens, died Wednesday evening, Jan. 8, 2003, at Holzer Medical Center, Jackson.
Born July 30, 1944, in Oak Park, Ill., he was the son of the late Herbert H.C. and Theresa Weymuth Meyer. David was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Athens and had been a resident of Jackson in recent years.
He is survived by a sister-in-law, Dorothy Meyer of Athens; a niece, Kristy Meyer of Phoenix, Ariz.; a nephew, Douglas (Laura) Meyer of Bowling Green; and a grand-niece and grand-nephew, Eleanora Meyer and Nathan Meyer of Bowling Green.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Meyer; and a brother, Earl Meyer.
Services will be held Sunday, 3 p.m., at Matz Funeral Home, Chicago, Ill., with the Rev. Steven R. Geske officiating. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery, Des Plaines, Ill.
Friends may call at the funeral home an hour before the time of service.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in Athens at a date to be announced.
Local arrangements are by Jagers and Sons Funeral Home.
Kim L. Rosser
Died: Wednesday, January 8, 2003
Age: 46
BUCHTEL -- Kim L. Rosser, 46, of Buchtel, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at his residence.
Born Jan. 28, 1956, in Nelsonville, he was the son of Ada Abram of Buchtel and the late Belford Rosser. He was married to Bobbie Newman Rosser of Buchtel for 29 years.
He was employed by General Electric in Logan, was a member of Nelsonville Elks Lodge 543 and was an OHSAA football official, Athens Chapter.
In addition to his mother and his wife, Bobbie, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Travis and Heidi Rosser of Buchtel; a daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Matt Eckels of Akron; four grandchildren, Kiersten, Chase, Conner and Jacob; and two brothers, Larry Rosser of Buchtel and Ty (Zoe) Rosser of Heath.
He was preceded in death by his father, Belford Rosser.
Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville, with Pastor David Shoemaker officiating. Interment will be in Conner Cemetery, Buchtel.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., where an Elks service will be conducted at 7:30.
Ralph G. Scott

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, and a son, Ralph W. Scott.

Grant L. Boring
Died: Tuesday, January 7, 2003
Age: 75
REEDSVILLE -- Grant L. Boring, 75, of Reedsville, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at his residence.
Born July 22, 1927, in Lisbon, Ohio, he was the son of Edith Erdman and the late Ira H. Boring. He was a beloved father, grandfather and friend. He was a member of Tuppers Plains VFW Post 9053, Coolville Masonic Lodge, Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels and Forked Run Sportsman's Club.
Besides his mother, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Hugh Martin of Reedsville; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Laura Boring of Winterset, Iowa; two grandsons, Michael (Angel) Martin and Matthew (Amber Vansickle) Martin; a granddaughter, Jenna Larke Boring; two stepgranddaughters, Jessica Smith and Amy Smith of Des Moines, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Erich (Gertrude) Ellwart of Munchburg, Germany; a sister-in-law, Elfriede Ellwart of Lichtenstein; a niece, Janet Hoffman; and three nephews, John Hetzer, Rainer Ellwart and Christian Ellwart.
Besides his father, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and John Hetzer; brothers-in-law, Gunter and George Ellwart; and a sister-in-law, Elfriede Wygas.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, 2 p.m., at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home, Coolville, with the Rev. Philip Sturm officiating. Burial will be in Reedsville Cemetery.
There will be two hours of visitation before the service, and the Coolville lodge will conduct Masonic services at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
