CARBONDALE -- Vivian Pittman, 93, of Route 56 at Carbondale, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at Hickory Creek Nursing Center, The Plains.
Born July 7, 1909, in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Chloe (Cox) Auker.
Mrs. Pittman was a homemaker and retiree of Ohio University housekeeping department. She is survived by two sons, Ronald (Shirley) Pittman of Carbondale and Clayton (Buck) Pittman of Sugar Grove; three daughters, Carol (Denver) Stump of Millfield, Marilyn (Merrill) Dickerson of New Marshfield and Nancy Young of Carbondale; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Lester Pittman Jr. (Barbara) of Granite City, Ill.; a sister, Ruth Hartman; 24 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Lester Pittman; two sons, Lester Jr. (Pud) and Charles Robert; a daughter, Letta Lee Dickerson; and a sister, Grace Largent.
Services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan, with the Rev. Charles Buck officiating. Burial will be in Asbury Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 4 to 9 p.m.
Betty Elizabeth Dalton Pastor
Died: Thursday, October 10, 2002
Age: 73
GLOUSTER -- Betty Elizabeth Dalton Pastor, 73, of Springboro, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at Hospice of Dayton.
Born Nov. 21, 1928, in Glouster, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Perry and Hattie Marie Drake Dalton. She is survived by a son, Terry Pastor.
Services will be Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Taylor Ridge Cemetery, Red Town.

Fred Deskins III
Died: Thursday, October 10, 2002
Age: 30
ATHENS -- Fred Deskins III, 30, of Santa Cruz, Calif., formerly of Athens and Reynoldsburg, died unexpectedly Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, on a work assignment in Guadalajara, Mexico.
He was born March 2, 1972, with fraternal twin Febriena Angelic Deskins, to Fred Jr. and Georgie Deskins, all surviving. Also surviving are sisters Frederica Stupka and Sherry Coons; brothers-in-law Larry Stupka Jr., and Fred Coons; nieces and nephews Abigail, Glenn and Lydia Coons, and Ethan, Claire and Avery Stupka; and numerous friends and extended family.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed kayaking, travel and bluegrass music. There as never a kinder heart or a gentler spirit than fun-loving Uncle Bubba. He will be sadly missed by all.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Cotner Funeral Home, 7369 E. Main St., Reynoldsburg, Ohio.
Kevin Hickel
Died: Thursday, October 10, 2002
Age: 28
COOLVILLE -- Kevin Hickel, 28, of Marysville, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at Grant Riverside Hospital, Columbus.
He was born May 4, 1974, in Parkersburg, W.Va., son of David Hickel and the late Janice Smith Hickel.
He is survived by his wife, Zondre Dye Hickel; two sons, Brandon and Bryce; a daughter, Alexis; his stepmother, Mary Jo Hickel; a grandmother, Velma Hickel; three brothers, Ryan and Brian Hickel and Eric Byrd; and one sister, Carmilla Morris.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at White Schwarzel Funeral Home, Coolville, with the Rev. Teresa Waldeck officiating. Burial will be in Coolville Cemetery.

Nelma Sayre
Died: Wednesday, April 24, 2002
BUCHTEL -- Nelma I. Sayre, 90, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Buchtel, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2002, in Mesa.
Born May 8, 1911, in Buchtel, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Almeda Russell Kirkendall. She was the wife of the late Edward Clarence Sayre.
She is survived by a daughter, Nona Sayre of Mesa; a son, William (Joy) Sayre of Mesa; three grandchildren, Eddie Sayre, Tonya Basko and Melissa Kuhns; six grandchildren; and a half sister, Beverly Russell of Buchtel.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Jean McQuaid; brothers Eldon and Ben Kirkendall; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Greenlawn Cemetery in Nelsonville, with Bob Beecher officiating.
Arrangements are by Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home in Nelsonville.
Orion Nelson
Died: Tuesday, April 23, 2002
DEXTER -- Orion R. Nelson, 85, of Dexter, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at Overbrook Center in Middleport.
Born June 5, 1916, in Dexter, he was the son of the late Pearley Hobart and Nellie Murray Nelson.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Pierce Nelson; and sons Richard and Wayne Nelson.
Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Fisher Funeral Home in Middleport. Burial will be in Vonschriltz Cemetery, Dexter.

Ann Mills

SYRACUSE -- Ann M. Ankrum Mills, 64, of Syracuse, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis.
Born May 11, 1937, in Columbus, she was the daughter of the late Charles F. and Anna Elizabeth Carter Ankrum.
She is survived by her husband, Franklin Eugene "Gene" Mills; and children Yvonne Dodd, Tiva N. Royer and Franklin E. Mills. She was preceded in death by several infant children.
Services will be Thursday, 1 p.m., at Ewing Funeral Home, Pomeroy. Burial will be in Letart Falls Cemetery.

David Armstrong
Died: Thursday, April 18, 2002
CARBON HILL -- David L. Armstrong, 50, of Carbon Hill, died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital, Logan.
He was born Jan. 18, 1952, in Hocking County. He was a 1971 graduate of Logan High School and attended Hocking College. He was a former employee of Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville and was a volunteer for the Ward Twp. Fire Department.
He is survived by his mother, Mary E. Phillips of Logan; his father, Robert E. (Shirley) Armstrong of Logan; an uncle, Robert Congrove of Logan; brothers Danny (Kathy Strawn) Armstrong of Lancaster, Jeff (Jackie) Phillips of Logan and Troy E. Armstrong of Columbus; sisters Cheryl (Bob) Phillips and Diane (Dan) Sargent, all of Logan; stepsisters Lora Collingsworth and Kathy Caldwell of West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Vernie Congrove and Marie Nixon Anderson; and by several aunts and uncles.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan, with the Rev. Mike Weaver officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Logan.

Lauren Canode
Died: Thursday, April 18, 2002
PICKERINGTON -- Lauren F. "Shorty" Canode, 70, of Pickerington, passed to eternal life Thursday, April 18, 2002, at Mount Carmel East Hospital.
Born Dec. 23, 1931, in Meigs County, he was the son of the late Charles Clarence and Elizabeth Jane Phillips Canode.
A veteran of the United States Army, Lauren served in the Korean Conflict. He was a pipefitter for 40 years and worked for Limbach Co. until his retirement from Local 189 in December 1994. Lauren's interests in life were his family, his love for the Lord and fishing. He was a member of the Reynoldsburg Baptist Church for 32 years.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Ann; children Theresa (Michael) Koob and Tony (Teresa) Canode; grandchildren Matthew, Robert and Jessica Canode; brothers Leslie (Myrtle) Canode and Walter Canode; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Calling hours will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Dwayne R. Spence Funeral Home, 550 Hill Road North (Route 256), Pickerington .
The funeral will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Reynoldsburg Baptist Church, 887 Rosehill Road, Reynoldsburg 43068, with Pastor Steve Cavanaugh officiating. Interment will follow in Glen Rest Memorial Estate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Reynoldsburg Baptist Church Building Fund or a charity of your choice.
