Ralph Burgess
Died: Friday, May 31, 2002
AMESVILLE -- Ralph J. Burgess, 79, of Amesville, died Friday, May 31, 2002, at Hickory Creek Nursing Center, The Plains.
Born Aug. 6, 1922, in Gore, Ohio, he was the son of the late Ralph and Clara Bartlett Burgess. He retired from General Motors Corp. in Columbus, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He is survived by two daughters, Mary Louise and Patricia Jean Burgess, both of Athens; a sister, Mary Pinkerman of The Plains; a brother, Charles D. (Joyce) Burgess of Amesville, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Burgess, in 1998; two brothers, Frank and Walter Burgess; and a sister, Eileen Vance.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, with Pastor James Wolfe officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Cemetery with military services provided by the Athens American Legion and Athens VFW.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
Paula Crane
Died: Friday, May 31, 2002
GALLIPOLIS -- Paula Marie Fout Crane, 37, of Gallipolis, formerly of Ray, died Friday, May 31, 2002, at Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis, following years of illness.
Born Sept. 13, 1964, in Ross County, she was the daughter of Paul F. Fout and F. Margaret Fout Caldwell, both of Ray. On May 29, 1992, she married Michael H. Crane, who survives.
She also is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Chrystal D. and David P. Dixon Jr. of Chillicothe; two sons, Robert K. Stoneburner Jr. of Ray and Derrick F. Stoneburner at home; two stepsons, Kevin L. Crane of Lewisburg, W.Va., and Joshua E. Crane of Bluefield, W.Va.; a special grandson, David P. Dixon III; her father- and mother-in-law, Harold E. and C. Jean Crane of Lewisburg, W.Va.; a brother and sister-in-law, Mark D. and Rebbeca Fout of Ray; two sisters, Loretta L. Henry of Wellston and R. Marlene Fout of Jackson; a grandfather, Dale S. Fout of Ray; six nices and nephews; and numerous, aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents David A. and Ollie M. Archey, and paternal grandmother Erma M. Fout.
Services will be Wednesday, 2 p.m., at J.P. Rogers Funeral Home, Wellston, with Brother Rondall Walker officiating. Burial will be in Boblett Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Bonnie Neff
Died: Friday, May 31, 2002
LOGAN -- Bonnie S. Neff, 59, of Logan, died Friday, May 31, 2002, in Columbus.
Born Dec. 6, 1942, in Logan, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Bertha M. Lane Schein. She is survived by sons David A. Neff Sr. and Michael R. Neff, and a daughter, Melissa A. Neff.
Services will be Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Logan Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be in New Fairview Cemetery.
Friends may call at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home on Tuesday anytime after 9 a.m., with the family in attendance from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Visitation also will be held at the church on Wednesday, one prior to services.

Kay Arnold
Died: Thursday, May 30, 2002
NELSONVILLE -- Kay Arnold, 20, of Nelsonville, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Children's Hospital, Pittsburgh.
She was born Aug. 20, 1981, in Athens County, and attended Nelsonville First Christian Church.
She is survived by her parents, Steve and Sara Pickett Arnold of Nelsonville; two sisters, Heather Arnold of Lancaster and Miranda Arnold of Nelsonville; paternal grandparents Charles and Ellen Arnold; her fiance, James Brooks of Nelsonville; and special friends Samantha and Tara. She was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Mary and Marion Pickett.
Funeral services will be Monday at 7 p.m. at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville, with the Rev. Donald Davisson officiating.

Alfred Darby Sr.
Died: Thursday, May 30, 2002
GLOUSTER -- Alfred T. Darby Sr., 92, of Glouster, died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Pine Hills Care Center, Nelsonville.
Born Nov. 30, 1909, in Hemlock, he was the son of the late Alexander and Anna Buchman Darby. He was a coal miner and a member of Greens Run Christian Church.
He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Alfred T. and Wilma Darby Jr. of Trimble, and the Rev. Kenneth and Sandra Darby of Albany; daughters and sons-in-law, Joy and Robert Roberts of The Plains, Sherry and Ralph Sabo of Marion, and Pamela Darby of Glouster; six grandsons, five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter; a brother and sister-in-law, Willard and Marie Darby of Doylestown; and a sister, Hazel Clark of Dayton.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Etta S. Darby, who passed away on Jan. 14, 1998; a great-great-grandson, Nathan Parks; brothers Donald and Clarence; sisters Deloris, Olive and Ida; a grandson, Michael Roberts; and granddaughters Carale and Lisa Roberts.
Services will be held Monday, 1 p.m., at Brown Funeral Home, Murray City, with the Rev. Steven Bentley officiating. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Athens County.

Pearl Fuller
Died: Wednesday, May 29, 2002
WELLSTON -- Pearl E. Fuller, 92, of Wellston, a resident of Edgewood Manor, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at the facility.
Born April 22, 1910, in Berlin, Ohio, he was the son of the late Edward and Estella Aldrige Fuller. He was a World War II Army veteran.
He is survived by a daughter, Marilyn E. Laudermilk.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred G. Fuller.
Services will be held Friday, 2 p.m., at McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery in Wellston, with graveside services conducted by American Legion Post 371.

Mary Mogavero

LOGAN -- Mary Agnes Aggie Mogavero, 88, of Logan, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, in Logan.
Born Aug. 2, 1913, in New Straitsville, she was the daughter of the late Bruce and Julia Cain Jaggi.
She is survived by daughters Julie Mogavero and Angela Hill.
Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home in Logan. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Rex Ballinger
Died: Tuesday, February 26, 2002
ATHENS -- Rex Ballinger, 51, of Athens, died early Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 26, 2002, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, following a brief illness.
Born Aug. 3, 1950, in Athens, he was the son of Ermyl Hunter Ballinger of The Plains and the late Floyd P. Ballinger. A 1969 graduate of Athens High School, he had retired from GTE/Verizon after 28 years as a cable splicer. A longtime motorcycle enthusiast, he was a member of several motorcycle associations.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Laura Michael Ballinger; a sister, Carol Ann McDonald of The Plains; a brother, Clyde W. (Laura) Ballinger of White Springs, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Martha (Nigel) Gilbert of The Plains; his mother-in-law, Mary F. Michael of The Plains; and an aunt, June Hunter of The Plains.
Services will be held Saturday, 4 p.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
Friends are invited to join the family in a celebration of Rex's life, to be held at The Plains Elementary School immediately following Saturday's service.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Meeker Elliott; his sister, Ina Kelly of Nelsonville; and four stepchildren, Sondra (James) Miller, Robert (Maxine) Kempton, James (Karen) Kempton and Miriam Jo Lantrip; and 13 grandchildren.
There will be no viewing. The family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday, at 2 p.m., at Londonderry Friends Church on Route 50.
