McARTHUR -- Brenda Sue Owens-Martin, 52, of McArthur, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at her residence.
Born April 2, 1949, in Huntington, W.Va., she was the daughter of Arthur R. Murphy Sr. of Florida, and Florence Martin Dixon of Columbus.
She is survived by her husband, Paul Martin; and sons Joe and Kelly Owens.
Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Garrett Funeral Home in McArthur. Burial will be in Boblett Cemetery, Vinton County.

Goldie Amnah
Died: Monday, May 28, 2001
LOGAN -- Goldie L. Amnah, 73, of Logan, died Monday, May 28, 2001, at Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus.
Born Dec. 2, 1927, in Hocking County, she was the daughter of the late William and Bertha Johnson Wahl.
Services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at Cardaras Funeral Home. Burial will be in Gore Cemetery.

Melvin Ball
Died: Monday, May 28, 2001
LOGAN -- Melvin L. Ball, 66, of Logan, died Monday, May 28, 2001, at Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster. He was the son of the late James Allen and Myrtle Dow Ball.
Mr. Ball was cremated, and no services will be observed. Arrangements are by Cardaras Funeral Home.

Mary Cady

McARTHUR -- Mary Swaim Cady, a former resident of McArthur and Lighthouse Point, Fla., died Monday, May 28, 2001.
She is survived by a daughter, Virginia Murray.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Cady; and a daughter, Marjorie J. Myers.
Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Cotner Funeral Home, 7369 E. Main St., Reynoldsburg. Burial will be in Glen Rest Memorial Estate.

Della Dexter

NEW PLYMOUTH -- Della G. Dexter, 56, of New Plymouth, died Monday, May 28, 2001, at her residence.
Born Nov. 17, 1944, in Hocking County, she was the daughter of Nellie A. Holiday Hamilton of Logan and the late Donald D. Hamilton. She also is survived by her husband, Eldon Toke Dexter; and children Jerry L. Hite, Debi Tootle, Sandra Roe and Angie Cline.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan, with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Gerald Dore
Died: Monday, May 28, 2001
LOGAN -- Gerald Kenneth Dore, 77, of West Union, died Monday, May 28, 2001, at Meadow View Regional Medical Center, Maysville, Ky.
Born Sept. 28, 1923, in Cleveland, he was the son of the late Charles J. and Geraldine Murphy Dore.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, 2 p.m., at the Webb family Cemetery, Starr Twp., Hocking County, where military services will be conducted by Combined Veterans of Hocking County.
There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by Roberts Funeral Home.
Bryan Starkey
Died: Saturday, March 9, 2002
WELLSTON -- Bryan Dean Starkey, 20, of Wellston, died Saturday, March 9, 2002, in Belmont County.
Born June 22, 1981, in Athens, he was the son of Dean and Karen Hoy Starkey of Wellston.
Services will be held Tuesday, 1 p.m., at Jason R. Winters Funeral Chapel in Wellston. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery.

Catherine Tigner

LOGAN -- Catherine M. Tigner, 75, of Logan, died Saturday, March 9, 2002, at her residence.
Born May 28, 1936, in Malta, she was the daughter of the late Barney Hook and Mae Rutter Hook.
She is survived by sons Brad A. Congrove, Bobby Tigner and Kevin Tigner, and a daughter, Brenda Walker.

Hazel Scott
Died: Tuesday, June 12, 2001
ATHENS -- Hazel Pearl Scott, 91, of South Canaan Road, Athens, died at Arcadia Nursing Center late Thursday afternoon, June 12, 2001.
Born Dec. 24, 1909, in Elizabeth, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles Parker and Ella Eaton Windland. She was a member of South Canaan Baptist Church.
She is survived by daughters Betty Mullins of Kettering and Reba Peck of Athens; sons Pearl Scott of Marietta, Virgil (Janet) Scott of Fort Collins, Colo., Dorrall Sleepy Scott, and Charles Bill (Sonja) Scott of Athens; 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; a brother, Thomas (Eleanor) Windland of Canton; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, in 2000; a beloved grandson, Bradley A. Mullins; an infant grandson, Charles Randolph Scott; sisters Eula Eyre and Mildred Windland; and brothers Rolla and Howard Windland.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home in Athens, with Pastor Monte McCune officiating. Burial will be in South Canaan Cemetery.

Billy Jack Simmons
Died: Tuesday, June 12, 2001
ATHENS -- Billy Jack Simmons, 70, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Athens, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at Bon Secours-St. Joseph Hospital in Port Charlotte.
Born July 21, 1930, in Floodwood, he moved to Port Charlotte in 1990 from Athens. He was a retired mechanical maintenance supervisor for Appalachian Power, and he had retired from the Athens Police Department after 23 years of service. He was a member of Athens Elks Lodge 973, Arcadia Moose Lodge in Florida, Fraternal Order of Police in Athens, and Sons of AMVETS.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marian; two sons, Gregory L. (Victoria) Simmons Sr. of Zolfo Springs, Fla., and Richard (Connie) Simmons of Marysville, Wash.; two daughters, Nancy (Chuck) Westfall of Everett, Wash., and Jackie (Steve) Culp of Kent, Wash.; a brother, Don (Donna) Simmons of New Albany; a sister, Donna (Harley) Fiddler of Pickering; a brother-in-law and niece, David (Pam VanNest) and Tina Beckett, both of Athens; a granddaughter, Teri (John Byrd) Simmons of North Port, Fla.; grandsons Gregory L. Simmons Jr. of Zolfo Springs, and Benjamin Eli Simmons of Athens; a great-granddaughter, Jasmine Renee Byrd of North Port; and numerous other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at Roberson Funeral Home and Crematory in Port Charlotte, with the Rev. J. Ralph Burton Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Charlotte Memorial Gardens, Punta Gorda, Fla.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home today, 5 to 8 p.m.
A memorial service will be held in Athens at a later date.
Derwin Travis

LOGAN -- Derwin L. Travis, 36, of Logan, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital.
Born March 16, 1965, in Logan, he was the son of David E. and Irene Perrine Travis of Logan.
Services will be held Saturday, 10 a.m., at Cardaras Funeral home in Logan. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery, Washington Twp.
