Age: 47
AMESVILLE -- Dennis W. Varner, 47, of Amesville, died early Wednesday morning, Feb. 19, 2003, at his home.
Born Sept. 25, 1955, in Athens, he was the son of Janet Dowler Varner of Amesville and the late William M. Varner.
Besides his mother, he is survived by three brothers, James (Merry) Varner and Robert Varner, both of Amesville, and Gary Varner of The Plains; four sisters, Rebecca (Gary) Bailey and Connie Varner, both of Amesville, Lisa Varner of Athens and Sara Varner of Albany; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his father, he was preceded in death by a niece, Melissa Varner.
Services will be Saturday, 2 p.m., at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, with Dave Cogar officiating. Burial will be in New Marshfield Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family for expenses.
Elizabeth Ann McBride Bridge
Died: Tuesday, February 18, 2003
Age: 82
FAIRBORN -- Elizabeth Ann McBride Bridge, 82, of Fairborn, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at Mercy Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
She was born Jan. 11, 1921, in Athens County, daughter of William and Elizabeth Gould McBride.
Ann is survived by her husband of 62 years, Wendell; three sons, Bruce of Alaska, and Bill and Gerald of Fairborn; a daughter, Carol of Georgia; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many friends.
Ann was a member of Knob Prairie United Church of Christ in Enon, Order of the Eastern Star 536 of Fairborn, White Shrine 62 of Fairborn, and Daughters of the Nile 57 of Dayton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, four sisters, two great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday, 6 to 8 p.m., at Littleton and Rue Funeral Home, 830 N. Limestone St., Springfield, where Eastern Star and White Shrine services will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, 2 p.m., with Pastor Pat Glover officiating. Graveside services will be held Saturday, noon, at New Marshfield Cemetery.

Virginia Alice Kidder

WELLSTON -- Virginia Alice Kidder, 79, of Wellston, formerly of Rutland, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at Edgewood Manor, Wellston.
Born March 1, 1923, in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late William Bradford and Helen Rego Kidder.
Services will be today, at 2 p.m., at Ewing Funeral Home. Burial will be held at a later date in Miles Cemetery.
Bruce R. Morris
Died: Monday, February 17, 2003
Age: 92
LANGSVILLE -- Bruce R. Morris, 92, of Langsville, died at his residence on Monday, Feb. 17, 2003.
Born Jan. 18, 1911, in Langsville, he was the son of the late Edward and Cora Ward Morris. He is survived by a son, Larry Morris, and daughters Judy Lloyd and Betty Wright. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Denny Morris.
Services will be Saturday, 3 p.m., at Salem Center Cemetery.

Chester E. Reed
Died: Monday, February 17, 2003
Age: 76
WELLSTON -- Chester E. Reed, 76, of Washington C.H., a former resident of Wellston, passed away on Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at Auburn Manor, Washington C.H.
Born May 18, 1926, in Superior, he was the son of the late Grover and Emma Walters Reed. Chester was a former corrections officer for London Correctional Facility, and retired from Lucasville Correctional Facility. He also was a former truck driver and a member of Salem Church.
He is survived by sons Gerald Reed of Washington C.H., and Bruce Reed Sr. and wife Joyce of Washington C.H.; daughters Karen Beverly and husband Steve of Washington C.H., and Janet Reed of Jackson; a sister, Juanita Billings of Mechanicsburg; as well as several grandchildren, a great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Billing Reed, in 1995; sisters Sandy Ervin, Ada Holloway and Evelyn Howard; and brothers William "Bill" Reed, Leslie Reed and Edward Reed; as well as three infant siblings.
Services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at McWilliams Funeral Home, Wellston. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery.

Margaret Benson

Age: 74
WELLSTON -- Margaret Benson, 74, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at Jenkins Memorial Nursing Home in Wellston.
Born March 30, 1928, in Wellston, she was the daughter of the late Anna and Charles Snyder.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Benson.
Services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Wellston. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call at J.P. Rogers Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., where a Rosary service will be held at 8.

Mary Louise Darnell

JACKSON -- Mary Louise Darnell, 79, of Jackson, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at Jenkins Memorial Nursing Facility, Wellston.
Born April 6, 1923, in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Hiram and Edith Jenkins Farrell.
She is survived by daughters, Wanda Wood of Jackson, Bonnie Dixon of Wellston and Dinah Malone of Glenroy; and a son, William E. Darnell of Jackson.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Darnell; a daughter, Ruth Ann Clemente; and sons, Ezra, David and Donald Darnell.
Services will be held Thursday, at 1 p.m., at McWilliams Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery.

Pansy L. Derr

LOGAN -- Pansy L. Derr, 92, of Logan, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital Hospital in Logan.
Born Sept. 23, 1910 in Hocking County, she was the daughter of the late Marion and Nora Kitchen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter L. Derr.
Services will be held Friday, 2 p.m., at Cardaras Funeral Home in Logan. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Logan.

Helen Toth
Died: Friday, February 14, 2003
Age: 84
NAPA, Calif. -- Helen Toth, 84, of Vallejo, Calif., died Friday morning, Feb. 14, 2003, of pneumonia at Queen of the Valley Hospital, Napa.
She was born in Athens County on Aug. 5, 1918, grew up in Millfield, and graduated from Chauncey-Dover High School in 1936. She was married to Orley Toth and lived in Millfield until moving to California in 1962.
Mrs. Toth was preceded in death by her parents, Nellie and Fred Russell; her husband, Orley; her brothers, Billy, Bob, Ed, Fred and Scott Russell; and sisters Dorothy and Marjorie Russell.
She is survived by her devoted sister, Jean Loper, and her husband John of Vallejo; her brother, Jerry Russell, and his wife Joan of Vallejo; her daughter, Linda Bell of Vallejo; her daughter, Rita Robinson, and her husband Gerald of Silver City, N.M.; her son, Dr. Bill Toth of Silver City; and a special granddaughter, Carol Robinson Stavas of Napa.
In addition, Mrs. Toth leaves behind six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Feb. 17 in Napa. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
