Alice Wright
Died: Friday, April 26, 2002
McARTHUR -- Alice Elizabeth Collins Wright of League City, Texas, formerly of McArthur, completed life's journey on Friday, April 26, 2002, at The Hospice at Texas Medical Center in Houston, following an extended illness.
A loving wife and mother, Alice is survived by her husband of 53 years, Dale Wright; two sons, Gary (Sandi) of McArthur and Terry (Angie) of Safety Harbor, Fla.; three daughters, Cheryl (Steve) Tolbert and Jan (Harold) Caudill of McArthur, and Lorayne (Scott) Justis of League City. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Olan and Dorothy Collins; and a sister, Rosemary McLin.
Alice graduated from Vinton Rural High School in 1947. Along with her husband, Alice owned and operated Wright's Market in McArthur for a number of years. She also served as McArthur village clerk and as chairwoman of the Republican Party in Vinton County. After retiring from the Vinton County Board of Elections in 1992, Alice and Dale made their home in Orlando, Fla. Her love for children was evident as she opened her home to care for two of her grandchildren, Leah and Kaley Justis, and two neighbor children during the years she spent in Florida.
Alice was an active member of McArthur First Christian Church, where she served as a deaconess, before transferring her membership to First Christian Church of Kissimmee, Fla. She will be sadly missed by a host of family and friends.
Services will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m., at McArthur First Christian Church, with the Revs. Dennis Sparks and Danny Wise officiating. Burial will be in Elk Cemetery.
Friends may call at Garrett Funeral Home in McArthur on Tuesday, from 4 to 9 p.m.

Orville Wyman
Died: Friday, June 15, 2001
ALBANY -- Orville Able Wyman, 74, of Macksville, Kansas, died Friday, June 15, 2001, in Breezewood, Pa.
Born Nov. 27, 1926, in St. John, Kansas, he was the son of the late Clarence and Ruth Catherine Wyman.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Steven Wyman.
He is survived by three daughters, Karen Markin of Albany, and Kathy Michael and Elizabeth Nelson.
Funeral services were June 19 at Minnis Chapel in St. John.
Willis Bentz
Died: Thursday, June 14, 2001
MIDDLEPORT -- Willis Bentz, 92, of Middleport, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, in Point Pleasant, W. Va.
Born Oct. 27, 1908, in Pomeroy, he was the son of the late Michael and Esther Bradshaw Bentz.
Private graveside services were held. There were no calling hours. Arrangements were by by Fisher-Acree Funeral Home.
Sylvia Bownes
Died: Thursday, June 14, 2001
LOGAN -- Sylvia M. Bownes, 91, of Logan, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital.
Born Oct. 28, 1909, in Hocking County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Christena Miller Harden.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Bownes; a brother, Clarence Harden; and a nephew and niece, Gary and Stephanie Whitcraft.
Services will be held Tuesday, 10 a.m., at Cardaras Funeral Home in Logan. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Loretta Edwards
Died: Thursday, June 14, 2001
MURRAY CITY -- Loretta Belle Edwards, 73, of Redtown, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at the home of her granddaughter in Tampa, Fla.
Born Feb. 14, 1929, in Meigs County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel L. Elben and Clara Burris Eblen-Huber. She is survived by her husband, Clark Hershey Edwards Sr., and children Clark Jr. and Patricia Edwards-Smathers.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Murray City, with burial in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Nelsonville.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Rhoda Gwinn
Died: Thursday, June 14, 2001
ATHENS -- Rhoda Irene Jeffers Gwinn, 91, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at Hickory Creek Nursing Center, The Plains.
Born Jan. 31, 1910, in Athens County, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Gertrude Burnside Jeffers. She was a nurse and retired from the Athens State Hospital after 22 years of service.
She is survived by five children, Blanche (Wilbur) Parmiter, Marie Scurlock and Dean Gwinn of Athens, Grace (Tony) Ardent of Canton and Linda Linscott of Dover; a niece who was raised in the home, Carolyn Huffman of Florida; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Gwinn; a son, Gene Gwinn, twin brother to Dean; a grandson, Mike Ardent; sisters Kate, Nettie, Maggie and Florence; and brothers Floyd and Frank.
Services will be Sunday, 2 p.m., at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens. Burial will be in Bates Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Frances Hutton
Died: Thursday, June 14, 2001
ATHENS -- Frances Joann Hutton, 73, of Athens, died late Thursday evening, June 14, 2001, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
Born in Logan on June 11, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Pearl Ankrom Moe. She was a member of Blackburn Hill Church of Christ.
She is survived by daughters Shirley (Roy) Jeffers of Weddington, N.C., and Pat (Lee) Hoisington of Buford, Ga.; sons Jerry (Susan) Hutton of Montrose, Colo., and Tim (Judy) Hutton of Athens; and six grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Don E. Hutton, in 1991; and three sisters and two brothers.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, 3 p.m., in Alexander Cemetery, conducted by Nelson Kidder.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at Blackburn Hill Church of Christ after the service.

Raymond Kunkler Sr.
Died: Thursday, June 14, 2001
LOGAN -- Raymond Nicholas Kunkler Sr., 86, of Logan, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at his residence after an extended illness.
Born March 22, 1915, in Logan, he was the son of the late Christopher and Mary Magdalene Boch Kunkler. He was a retired designer for Logan Monument Co. with 29 years of service. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church of Logan, a World War II Army veteran, a member of Logan VFW and Moose Lodge and a former member of Junction City American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Irene Krannitz Kunkler of Logan; sons Gary Lee (Marge) Kunkler of Lancaster and Raymond Nicholas (Keri) Kunkler Jr. of Logan; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter Kunkler of Logan; and sisters Estella Smeck and Anna Olive of Lancaster.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Paul, Henry, Joseph, Ambrose and Clem Kunkler; and two sisters, Frances Schmeltzer and Cecila Schmelzer.
Funeral Mass will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church, Logan, with the Rev. Father Richard J. Pendolphi officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Bremen, where military services will be conducted by the Combined Veterans of Hocking County.
Friends may call today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, Logan, where Christian vigil services will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Marian Prince
Died: Thursday, June 14, 2001
THE PLAINS -- Marian S. Prince, 86, of The Lindley Inn, died peacefully in her sleep Saturday evening, June 9, 2001, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens.
She was born Nov. 16, 1915, in Brewer, Maine, daughter of the late William and Mary Starkey. A 1934 graduate of Teachers College in Farmington, Maine, she married the late Alton E. Prince, Ph.D., of Brunswick, Maine. She taught primary school for many years in Maine and Yellow Springs, Ohio, where she and her husband were community leaders and members of Yellow Springs Methodist Church. Marian moved to 29 Sunset Drive in Athens over a decade ago to be near her son, David W. Prince, and daughter-in-law, Bonnie L. Prince. She was an active member and contributor to the Athens community with memberships in many organizations, including First United Methodist Church.
She was known for her high-quality china painting, winning many regional awards.
Marian Prince is survived by her son, David W. Prince; a grandson, Jonathan D. Prince of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Ruth E. Skinner of Nashville, Tenn.; a niece, Sandra Jones of Kingston Springs, Tenn.; and a nephew, Robert Skinner of Del Rio, Texas.
Services will be held Thursday, 10 a.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, with Pastor Thomas D. Hanover officiating. Afterwards, refreshments will be served at Athens United Methodist Church for conversation and reflection. Burial will be in the Prince family cemetery in Brunswick.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, 6 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Athens First United Methodist Church, 2 S. College St., to support the continuation of Sunday radio broadcasts.
