Died: Thursday, June 14, 2001
ATHENS -- Emma Mae Tommie Riley, 89, of Barlow, died Thursday, June 14, 2001.
Born in Millersport to Francis and Cena Barber Foreman, she had lived in Athens and Columbus before moving back to Barlow in 1974. She retired from the housekeeping department at Ohio University.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Riley.
Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at the Barlow Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home in Barlow.

Mary Chandler
Died: Wednesday, June 13, 2001
McARTHUR -- Mary E. Walton Chandler, 84, of McArthur, died Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at her daughter's residence in Waverly.
Born Jan. 7, 1917, in Allensville, she was the daughter of the late Pearl Edward and Pluma Ruth Wilson Walton. She cooked for many area restaurants, was a member of McArthur First Christian Church and a graduate of Wellston High School.
She is survived by a son, Larry (Sue) Humphrey of Peebles; daughters Carol Ann Barnes of Copperas Cove, Texas, and Sherry (Edward) Dickson of Waverly; stepchildren Ralph Chandler of Wellston, Edna Chandler of Columbus, and Angeline Cameron of Westerville; 18 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild; and special friends Anna Jane Reffett and family of McArthur.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harmon Harold Humphrey, in 1952; her second husband, Leslie R. Chandler, in 1999; an infant daughter, Mary Kay Humphrey; and four brothers, Isaac, George, William and John Walton.
Services will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at Garrett Funeral Home in McArthur, with the Rev. Jerry Griffith Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Elk Cemetery.

Mary Beth Whiteford
Died: Saturday, June 23, 2001
ATHENS -- Mary Elizabeth Whiteford of Athens, formerly of Short Hills, N.J., died Saturday, June 23, 2001, at Hickory Creek Nursing Center in The Plains.
Born June 5, 1908, near West Milton, she was the daughter of the late Charles L. and Maude McKay Duncan.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie Ann and Dr. Paul Scott Malcom, Athens; five grandchildren, Dr. Mary Elizabeth Malcom of Carlisle, Iowa, Dr. Virginia Ann Paulins of Athens, Margaret E. Wieland of Hartland, Wis., William C. Malcom of Gallipolis, and Dr. Nancy L. Malcom-Caplinger of Statesboro, Ga.; and four great-grandchildren, Matthew Paulins, Joan Wieland, Ellen Wieland and Noah Caplinger.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Clifton Whiteford in 1984; a sister, Arlene Hunt; and two brothers, Robert L. Duncan and Dr. William M. Duncan.
She was a graduate of Miami University and completed further graduate studies at New York University. She taught in public schools in Ohio and New York, and at the Albany Academy for Girls in Albany, N.Y.
She was a member of the Community Congregational Church in Short Hills, where she served as a deaconess and as an active member of the Friendly Service. She was also a member of the DAR in Short Hills, and the Nabby Lee Ames chapter of DAR in Athens.
Services will be held at Community Congregational Church in Short Hills with interment in the Memorial Garden at the church.

Gerald Beckley
Died: Friday, June 22, 2001
BREMEN -- Gerald A. Beckley, 80, of Bremen, died Friday, June 22, 2001 at Fairfield Medical Center.
Gerald was a member of Bremen United Methodist Church, the Masonic Blue Lodge in Albany, Tarhe Shrine, Rushcreek Grange, and American Legion Post 20. He was a retired carpenter and a Navy veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Fern Beckley of Bremen; a daughter and son- in-law, Crystal and Ken Bussart of West Rushville; sons and daughters-in-law Jerry and Dee Beckley of The Plains and Robert Larry and Von Beckley; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bessie Beckley and Bertha Crow, both of Albany, and Christina Ley of Athens; a brother, Kenneth Beckley of Albany; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samual and Macy Beckley; three sisters; and two brothers.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bremen United Methodist Church with Revs. Nancy Raypholtz, Richard Beidler, and John Glick officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
Friends may call Monday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Frank E. Smith Funeral Home in Lancaster, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mary Meccia
Died: Friday, June 22, 2001
THE PLAINS -- Mary M. Meccia, 88, died Friday, June 22, 2001, peacefully in her sleep at her home.
Born in The Plains, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard; her parents, George and Mary Manda; and her two brothers, John and Joseph.
She sadly leaves behind her four devoted daughters, Marilyn Meccia Myers (Robert), Marlene Meccia Kristoff, Marianne Meccia Perin, Marcia Meccia Rohe (Jeff); her grandchildren, Rebekkah Bronwin Morral (Peter), Neil Meccia Perin and Ross Meccia Perin; step-grandchildren Olivia Baumeister (John) and Sonya Rohe; two beloved sisters, Anna P. Manda and Ellen Blazier (John); sister-in-law Cecilia Meccia; longtime friends Msgr. Francis X. Schweitzer and Lillian Zack; her special companion, Ky; and many nieces; nephews; cousins and friends.
Mary was an active member of the Catholic Ladies of Columbia, the National Slovak Society, I.F.C.A., the Holy Family Christian Mothers Guild, the Holy Family Quilting Guild, the Our Lady of Peace Rosary Crowd, and the Alpha Delta Mu sorority.
Her friends are invited to join her family at her Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, at East Dominion Boulevard and High Street, with Msgr. Kenneth Grimes and Fr. Kevin Lutz as concelebrants. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery.

Robert Shears
Died: Friday, June 22, 2001
MARIETTA -- Robert Bobby L. Shears, 67, a resident of the Washington County Home in Marietta, died Friday, June 22, 2001, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 16, 1933, in Moores Junction, Washington County, he was the son of the late Gladys Shears.
His survivors include an aunt, Grace Green, from Albany.
Services were held this morning at Hadley Funeral Home in Marietta. Burial was in Gravel Bank Cemetery.

Nancy Strausbaugh
Died: Friday, June 22, 2001
GLOUSTER -- Nancy Strausbaugh, 65, of Columbus, died Friday, June 22, 2001, at Grant Medical Center.
Born Sept. 10, 1935, at Glouster, she was the daughter of the late Pete and Mildred Miller. She was a nurse's aide for over 41 years and has spent the last 15 years at St. Raphael's.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Tom and Charles Miller, sister Helen Morrison and great-grandson David Lane.
She is survived by her children, Goldie Mae (Kim) Ryan, Neil (Angela) Mohler, Robert N. (Mariam) Strausbaugh and Mamie Mohler and fiancˇ Gary Miller; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Grace) Miller; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at O.R. Woodyard Co. Chapel, 255 E. State St., Columbus, where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Janet Lewis officiating. Burial will be at Glouster Cemetery.
Lacy Barton
Died: Thursday, June 21, 2001
POMEROY -- Lacy Barton, 79, of Pomeroy, died in Pomeroy on Thursday, June 21, 2001.
Born on April 10, 1922, in Pomeroy, he was the son of the late Jess and Bertha Rose Barton.
He is survived by his wife, Nadine Shrader Barton; two sons, Billy Stafford and Don Barton; and four daughters, Linda Marshall, Brenda Bush, Sandra Campbell, and Carol Rasnaki.
Funeral services will be Monday, 2 p.m. at Fisher-Acree Funeral Home in Pomeroy. Burial will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery in Cheshire.
Calling hours at the funeral home are today from 6 to 9 p.m.
Billie-Jo Buckley
Died: Thursday, June 21, 2001
LOGAN -- Billie-Jo Buckley, 32, of Logan, died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital.
Born Oct. 10, 1968, in Parkersburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of Danny Stewart of Parkersburg, and Edna Williamson Mace of Nelsonville. She was a member of Risen Redeemer Church in Nelsonville.
She is survived by her husband, Stephen H. Buckley; sons, David Scott Buckley and Zachery William Buckley, both of the home; a brother, Donnie Allen of Nelsonville; sisters Donna Ray Leffler of Zaleski, and Marlea Allen of Nelsonville; grandparents Twilla Williamson of St. Marys, W.Va., and Doris and Perry Stewart of Vienna, W.Va.
Services will be held Sunday, noon, at Risen Redeemer Church, with Pastor John Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Logan.
