Marguerite Truman Evans
Died: Tuesday, December 10, 2002
Age: 86

ATHENS -- Marguerite Truman Evans, 86, of Newark, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at Newark Health Care Centre.

She was born June 7, 1916, in Athens to William H. and Caroline T. Ruston Truman. She was reared in Akron, graduated from Garfield High School and the University of Akron, where she majored in English, Latin and Greek. As a teacher for 25 years of both Latin and English, she was fondly admired and respected by her many students, who found themselves desiring to learn under her guidance. Prior to her marriage, she taught at Frankfort and New Moorefield in Ohio, and in Garvey, Calif.

Following her marriage, she taught in Grandview Heights, Columbus, Alexander High School in Athens County, and for 10 years in the English Department of Ohio University. During 34 years in Athens, she was an active member of the Athena Delphian Club, the Pallas Club, the Social Literary Club, the CCL and the Tuesday Club of Athens. She was a member of the Trustees Academy of OU, and was an active supporter and former president of the Friends of Trisolini Gallery of OU.

She was a 64-year member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority, a member of the Episcopal Church, the ECW, the Licking County Genealogical Society and the Licking County Historical Society. She was an active volunteer for several years in the Licking County ABLE program, devoted to tutoring adults in reading.

Marguerite is survived by her husband of 55 years, Dr. John J. Evans, professor emeritus of Ohio University; her son, John W. Evans; his wife, Marcia; and her grandson, J. Thane Evans of Granville.

Services will be held Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, Newark, with the Rev. Vicki Zust officiating. Burial will be in Martinsburg Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Ralph Edward Bolin
Died: Tuesday, December 10, 2002
Age: 57

GLOUSTER -- Ralph Edward "Coach" Bolin, 57, of Buchanan Road, Waverly, died at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 17, 1945, in Glouster, the son of James Clinton Bolin of Mauldin, S.C., and Katherine Ann Safreed Gillott of Jacksonville. On June 10, 1967, he was united in marriage to Sue Ann Wyatt Bolin, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Jason Bolin at home; two daughters, Melissa (Ferdinand) Marquez and Amy (Shelby) Hitchens, both of Waverly; five grandchildren, Trevon Bolin, Shandan and Shane Hitchens, and Cade and Cobe Marquez; three brothers, Ron (Connie) Bolin of Lancaster, Denny (Wilma) Gillott of Piketon and Lloyd (Beverly) Wyatt of Glouster; six sisters, Cindy (Tim) Irwin of Glouster, Sherry (Chris) Downs of Jacksonville, Wendy (Steve) Banik of Jacksonville, Carol (Robert) Perry of Simpsonville, S.C., Julie (Marty) Rowe of Mouldin, S.C., and Sandy Brockman of Simpsonville, S.C.; and a special friend, Charles McNutt.

Ralph was preceded in death by his father, Ray Gillott.

Mr. Bolin was a graduate of the Ohio University Class of 1976, a veteran of U.S. Air Force Vietnam era, a former coach at Trimble High School, a teacher and head football and track coach at Waverly High School from 1984 to 2001.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, at 10:30 a.m., at Waverly New Covenant Church of Christ in Christian Union with the Revs. David Stulley and Doug Shriner officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Latham Cemetery, where American Legion Merritt Post 142 of Waverly will conduct military services.

Friends may call at Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., and at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to R.E. Bolin Scholarship Fund, c/o First National Bank 107 N. Market St., Waverly.

Forest Lamar Walton
Died: Monday, December 09, 2002
Age: 72

LOGAN -- Forest Lamar Walton, 72, of Logan, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital, Logan.

Born July 19, 1930, in Senecaville and raised in Wellston, he was the son of the late Isaac Lamar and Ethel Martha Armstrong Walton.

A longtime resident of Logan, he is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joyce Wolfe Walton. He served his country as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He and his family owned and operated a coal mining company for many years and he retired as a deputy mine inspector for the Ohio Division of Mines.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and photography, and was a well-known carver and woodworker. He was a member of Black Diamond Masonic Lodge 0538 of Wellston.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Chris (Karen) Walton and Mike (Sharon) Walton, both of Logan; three brothers, Gary (Rene) Walton of Logan, Fred (Jan) Walton of New Athens, Ill., and Max (Mary Ellen) Walton of Medina; a close family friend, Deborah Bean of Rockbridge; and six grandchildren, Jared Walton, Forest Walton, Amanda Hammond, Ambur Hammond, Austin Walton and Ashton Walton, all of Logan.

At Mr. Walton's request, he will be cremated and his remains interred in Ridgewood Cemetery, Wellston.

A memorial service will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at Logan Church of God, 321 E. Hunter St., with the Rev. Ralph N. Cordle officiating. A graveside service will be held at the cemeter at 3 p.m., with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 371.

The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Mr. Walton's name to Logan Church of God, or a favorite charity.

Arrangements are by Roberts Funeral Home, Logan.

Goldie R. Smith Loudner
Died: Monday, December 09, 2002
Age: 89

LANCASTER -- Goldie R. Smith Loudner, 89, of Lancaster, formerly of Nelsonville, passed away Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at Rockmill Rehabilitation Center, Lancaster.

She was born Nov. 23, 1913, in Amesville, daughter of the late Leonard I. and Mary M. Meek Smith. She was the widow of the late Fred Loudner.

She is survived by four sons, Richard (Sandy) Loudner, Leroy (Sue) Loudner, Fred (Sandy) Loudner and Robert (Sheila) Loudner, all of Nelsonville; a daughter-in-law, Pam Loudner of Nelsonville; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Barbara) Smith of Columbus; a sister, Margaret (Jim) Williams of Akron; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Loudner; a son, Ralph Loudner; a brother, Arthur Smith; three sisters, Elsie Groves, Doris Smith and Virgene Reynolds; and a great-granddaughter, Kristin.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., at Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville, with the Rev. Garry Dickerson officiating.

Friends may call at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville, on Thursday from noon until the time of the service.

Harry Jackson
Died: Wednesday, June 27, 2001

LOGAN -- Harry Martin Jackson, 65, of Logan, passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus.

He was born on July 6, 1935, in Nelsonville, son of the late Herbert and Jenny Christian Jackson. He was married to Shirley Stewart Jackson of Logan.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Bradley (Joanette) Jackson of Columbus, and Kraig Jackson of Logan; two daughters, Leesa Jackson of Columbus, and Pamela Jackson of Logan; two grandchildren, Michael Coleman and Carlesa Coleman of Logan; two sisters, Martha Jackson of Columbus, and his twin sister, Harriet Carr of Mansfield.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, 2 p.m., at Logan Church of the Nazarene, 650 Walhonding Ave., with the Rev. Thomas Gates officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call at Cardaras Funeral Home in Logan today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Bertha Bing
Died: Tuesday, June 26, 2001

POMEROY -- Bertha E. Bing, 77, of 34455 Bailey Run Road, Pomeroy, died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at her residence.

Born Feb. 17, 1924, in Middleport, she was the daughter of the late William and Pearl Putney Hoffman.

She is survived by children, Vernon W. Bing, Janice Bower, Kay McElroy and Sharon Sayre.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mount Vernon Bing.

Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Ewing Funeral Home in Pomeroy. Burial will be in Meigs Memory Gardens.

Friends may call at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m.

Max Bumgardner
Died: Tuesday, June 26, 2001

NELSONVILLE -- Max C. Bumgardner, 75, of Nelsonville, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens.

He was born Aug. 7, 1925, in Guernsey County, son of the late Wayne and Jenny Huddy Bumgardner. He retired from Iron Workers Local 172 in Columbus, and was a World War II veteran, having served in the European Theatre in Co. H 311th Infantry Division. He was a past commander for The Plains VFW Post 7174, Nelsonville Philodorian Masonic Lodge 157 F&AM, Columbus Shrine Scottish Rite 32nd Degree, Nelsonville OES and Eudora Chapter 72, was a past officer for District 12 Department of Ohio VFW and Jobs Community Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Virgie Thomas Bumgardner of Nelsonville; sons Mike (Jackie) Bumgardner of El Paso, Texas, Bill (Christy) Bumgardner of Morgan County, Mary (Tammy) Bumgardner of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Bill Campagna of St. Petersburg, Fla.; Diane (Robert) McDonald of Nelsonville, and Debra Whalen of Nelsonville; a stepdaughter, Cindy (Jeff) Hiles of Nelsonville; grandchildren Robert Max, Brian, Christopher, Nicholas, Sarah, Michael, Jack, Mary, John, Jacob, Jo Ann, Jeremy, Max and Timothy Bumgardner; and a special grandson, Brandon Hiles; five great-grandchildren; sisters Eileen Burchfield of Nelsonville, Ann Nixon of Nelsonville and Delores Gordon of The Plains; several nieces and nephews; special friends Wes Hughes, Edward Kreslin and Wayne Perry; and his dog, Ace.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Dixon and Vergene Cyrus.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home in Nelsonville, with the Rev. Paul Taylor officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens in Nelsonville, with military graveside services conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 8 p.m., where a Masonic service will be held at 7:30.

Howard Price
Died: Tuesday, June 26, 2001

GLOUSTER -- Howard Jackson Price, 89, of Glouster died Tuesday, June 26, 2001.

Born Sept. 25, 1911, in Mountville, he was the son of the late Charles and Inez McNally Price.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Louise Norris Price; and three sons, Delmer, Darrel and Charles.

Services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at Fairview Mission Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery near Burr Oak State Park boat dock 3.

Friends may call at Matheny Funeral Home in McConnelsville today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and at the church on Friday one hour prior to services.
