Herman Cook
Died: Monday, July 2, 2001
LOGAN -- Herman C. Cook, 83, of Lancaster, formerly of the Logan area, died Monday, July 2, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 12, 1917, in Hocking County, son of the late Thomas Cook and Bertie Hubacher Cook-Henderson.
He is survived by sons Thomas and Roger Cook; and daughters Judith Conley, Carolyn Carsey and Bonnie Weaver.
Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Logan.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where a Moose memorial service will be held at 7.

Harmon Huntley
Died: Monday, July 2, 2001
NEW PLYMOUTH -- Harmon Donald Huntley, 77, of New Plymouth, died Monday, July 2, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 22, 1924, in New Plymouth, son of the late Harmon and Nellie Schurtz Huntley. He retired in 1975 from Western Southern Life Insurance Co. after 18 years of service. He was a member of New Plymouth United Methodist Church; a graduate of Union Furnace High School; a member of Delta Lodge 207 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, Aladdin Temple Shrine, Taberah Shrine Club, Hillbilly Shrine 7 Nelsonville and Hillbilly Shrine 8 Vinton County; a World War II Army veteran serving in the European Theatre; a member of Vinton County VFW Post 5299, Logan VFW Post 6854, Murray City American Legion Post 0420, C. Buchanon DAV Chapter 68, Logan AMVETS Post 1776 and McArthur FOE AERIE 2279.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lillian Rife Huntley; a daughter, Laura (Randy) Hopstetter of Logan; three sons, Harmon Charles Huntley and Joseph (Mary) Huntley, of New Plymouth, and Kenneth M. (Gina) Huntley of McArthur; eight grandchildren, Melissa (Pete) Clark of Logan, Angela (Joshua) McKee of Columbus, Starr (Jacob) Brown, Shade and Skylar Huntley, all of McArthur, Journey Harmon Huntley of New Plymouth, Mandy (Kyle) Enderlie of New Plymouth and Michelle Jones of Wilkesville; six great-grandchildren; brothers Elza Huntley of New Plymouth and Robert (Ernestine) Huntley of McArthur; a sister, Gertrude (Hobert) McDaniel of Union Furnace; and a sister-in-law, Edith Huntley of New Plymouth.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant sisters, Mary and Martha; and brothers Otho Sr. and Kenneth.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Garrett Funeral Home in McArthur with Revs. Robert McManaway and Paul Elnard officiating.
Burial will be in Elk Cemetery with military graveside services by Vinton County VFW Post 5299.
Friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m., and Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, where an Eagles service will be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and a Masonic service at 8 p.m.
Zetta Milam
Died: Monday, July 2, 2001
LITTLE HOCKING -- Zetta Milam, 86, of Little Hocking, died Monday, July 2, 2001, at Arcadia Nursing Center in Coolville.
Born June 11, 1915, in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Ollie Lafferty.
She is survived by two sons, Henry and James Milam; five daughters, Georgia Marshall, Vyona Chute, Fay Billings, Elizabeth Eaton and Frances Albert; three sisters, Kay Hurt, Fay Wesley and Ruth Tolliver; and several grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Alfred Milam.
Services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at White-Moquin Funeral Home in Coolville, with the Rev. Bob Auxier officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Belpre.

Maude Poling
Died: Monday, July 2, 2001
THE PLAINS -- Maude E. Poling, 106, of Mason, Ohio, a former resident of The Plains and of Basil, died Monday, July 2, 2001, at Mason Christian Home.
She was a devoted pastor's wife of 45 years, serving with him in Cedar Hill, Greensburg, Findlay, Napoleon, Canton, Lancaster Maple Street United Methodist Church, Akron, Columbus and New Zion United Methodist Church at Baltimore, where she was a member.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gwendolyne and Dr. Samuel Jasper of Mason; three grandsons, Dr. Samuel (Kathryn) Jasper of Lexington, Ky., and Timothy Poling (Sandra) Jasper and Stephen J. Jasper, all of Birmingham, Ala.; four great-grandchildren, Matthew, Joshua, Haley and Tyler Jasper; and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Clinton S. Poling, and a sister, Bernice McGrew.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at New Zion United Methodist Church, Baltimore, Ohio, with the Rev. Cheryl Foulk officiating. Burial will follow in Union Evangelical Cemetery.
Friends may visit one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

Ted Smith
Died: Monday, July 2, 2001
STOW -- Ted Smith, born Feb. 20, 1940, to Benjamin and Beulah Smith, passed into eternal life on Monday, July 2, 2001.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1978, and was presently employed with Diagnostic Products Corp.-Cirrus.
Preceded in death by his father, Benjamin, he is survived by his wife, Erma Campbell Smith; his mother, Beulah Smith; and his children, Jayne Ann Smith, Valerie (Richard) Ehlert, Tad Smith, J. R. Scritchfield and Tammy (David) Jones; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday, 11 a.m., at Mission Baptist Temple, 4163 Kent Road, Stow, with Pastor David Lanum officiating. Burial will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, with full military honors.
Friends may call at Redmon Funeral Home in Stow on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and at the church on Friday one hour prior to services.
Chester Appleman
Died: Sunday, July 1, 2001
LOGAN -- Chester E. Shine Appleman, 88, of Logan, died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at Logan Health Care Center.
Born Aug. 11, 1912, in Logan, he was the son of the late Pearl and Bertha Robinson Appleman.
He is survived by a daughter, Joan P. Salter.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Tag Appleman.
Services will be held Thursday, 10 a.m., at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home. Burial will be in New Fairview Mausoleum, Hocking County.

Diane Eckenroad
Died: Sunday, July 1, 2001
NELSONVILLE -- Diane K. Eckenroad, 49, of Nelsonville, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2001, at Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville.
She was born Aug. 31, 1951, in Johnstown, Pa.
She is survived by her husband, Clifford P. Eckenroad of Nelsonville; her mother, Zella Pheasant Smith of Nelsonville; two daughters, Christine (Jason) Dudley of Nelsonville, and Carrie Eckenroad and fiancˇ John Ward of Enterprise; four grandchildren, Kayla Monroe, Alexandria Davis, Kathlene Dudley, and Trevor Michael Eckenroad-Ward; a brother, Charles Smith of Indianapolis, Ind.; and a sister, Darlene Hoover of Lady Lake, Fla.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother, David; and an infant sister, Mary.
A memorial service will be held Monday, 1 p.m., at Nelsonville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Gary Carlson officiating.
Arrangements are by Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home in Nelsonville.
Nicholas Cardaras
Died: Wednesday, July 4, 2001
GLOUSTER -- Nicholas P. Cardaras, 70, of Glouster, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.
Born Dec. 18, 1930, in Wheeling, W.Va., he was the son of the late Peter and Mary Vasiliou Cardaras. He was retired from the State Architect's Office in Columbus, and from Ohio University. He was a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral. He was a life member of Jacksonville VFW, a member of Glouster American Legion, and was on the Board of Public Affairs in Glouster.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Sharp Cardaras; sons Van (Pam) Cardaras of Logan and Dino (Kelli) Cardaras of McArthur; a daughter, Mrs. John (Rosemary) Domanski of Kettering; a stepson, Mick (Jody) Blackford of Gallipolis; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Ron (Diana) Smith of Nelsonville; six grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren; and a sister, Delores Toundas of Cambridge.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Pappas Cardaras, and a brother, Paul.
Services will be Saturday, 10 a.m., at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Glouster, with Fr. John Mucha officiating. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit.

Catherine Hutchins
Died: Wednesday, July 4, 2001
RUTLAND -- Catherine Sue Hutchins, 46, of Keystone Heights, Fla., formerly of Rutland, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, in Gainesville.
Born in Point Pleasant, W.Va., she was the daughter of Lillie Bevan Williams of Keystone Heights and the late Clyde Rupe. She was a homemaker and a member of Church of Christ in Melrose, Fla.
Besides her mother, she is survived by her husband, James Jim Hutchins of Keystone Heights; brothers Lusher Bevan of Patriot and Charles Mark of Seoul, Korea; and a sister, Carolyn Trout of Rutland.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, 10 a.m., in Eliam Cemetery, Melrose, Fla.
