John Stevens
Died: Friday, July 6, 2001
VINTON -- John L. Stevens, 74, Vinton, died Friday, July 6, 2001, at Pleasant Valley Hospital, Point Pleasant, W.Va.
He was a retired employee of Grant Trucking in Oak Hill, and a World War II Navy veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Ward Stevens; two daughters, Jan (Tim) Demosky of Albany and Ann Wells of Vinton; grandsons John (Jenny) Wells and Jason Wells of Vinton, David (Mica) Rees of Pomeroy and Danny (Samantha) Rees of Bonners Springs, Kan.; great-grandson Garrett Rees of Pomeroy; a sister, Dorothy Elliott of Gallipolis; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton, with the Rev. Gary Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Vinton Memorial Park, with military graveside rites by Vinton American Legion Post 161.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Masonic services will be conducted today at 8:45 p.m. by Vinton F&AM Lodge 131.
Clifford Tatman
Died: Friday, July 6, 2001
McARTHUR -- Clifford E. Tatman, 84, of Kingston, formerly of Vinton County, died Friday, July 6, 2001, at Pickaway Manor Nursing Home, Circleville.
Born Feb. 12, 1917, in Eagle Twp., he was the son of the late Henry Craten and Hollie Graves Tatman.
He is survived by his wife, Leora Clary Tatman, and daughters Arlene Kay Cotrill, Rebecca Johnson and Christy Reed.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Allensville Church of Christ in Christian Union. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery, Vinton County, with military graveside services by Vinton County VFW Post 5299.
Calling hours are today from 2 to 8 p.m. at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur, and Monday one hour prior to the church service.
Bob Woodyard
Died: Friday, July 6, 2001
NELSONVILLE -- Robert Lee Bob Woodyard, 64, of Nelsonville, passed away Friday, July 6, 2001, at Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville.
He was born Dec. 7, 1936, in Athens County, the son of the late Raymond Frederick and Glydia Roberts Woodyard.
He is survived by his stepmother, Juanita Woodyard of Logan; two half-brothers, Eddie Woodyard of New Marshfield and Larry McCormick of Michigan; and special friends Marsha Auflick, Betty Jo Parsley, Jeff and Kelly Williams, and Dale and Lois Hanning.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville, with the Rev. Gary Carlson officiating. Interment will be in Wells Cemetery, Pageville.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday beginning at 11 a.m.
Betty Nihiser
Died: Thursday, July 5, 2001
LOGAN -- Betty L. Nihiser, 63, of Logan, died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital in Logan.
Born Aug. 18, 1937, in Hocking County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph J. and Velma E. Dupler Nihiser.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, 3 p.m., at St. John Lutheran Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.

Charles Roberts
Died: Thursday, July 5, 2001
MURRAY CITY -- Charles A. Bone Coal Roberts, 85, of Murray City, died Thursday, July 5, 2001, as the result of an accident in Murray City.
Born July 17, 1915, in Murray City, he was the son of the late David Pomp and Eva Deal Roberts. He was retired from the Ohio Highway Department, was an Army veteran of World War II, owned and operated Hogans Restaurant and Bar in Murray City for several years, was a member of Murray City United Methodist Church and Murray City American Legion, was a former member of the Masonic Lodge of Glouster, was a 32nd Degree Mason, and was a member of Aladdin Shrine of Columbus and the Hillbilly Clan.
He is survived by sons David (Diane) Roberts of Perrysburg, Ronnie (Patricia) Roberts of Lancaster and Bruce (Dianna) Roberts of Murray City; a stepson, Kenny (Jeannie) McMullen of Raleigh, N.C.; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and sisters Rachael Toleu and Mary Shunkwiler, both of Dearborn, Mich.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Roberta and Margaret.
There will be no calling hours, and a private graveside service will be held at a later date, as Mr. Roberts requested.
Memorial contributions may be made to Murray City United Methodist Church.

Roger Six
Died: Thursday, July 5, 2001
WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Roger L. Six, 51, of Winter Park, Fla., died Thursday July 5, 2001.
He was the son of the late Ralph L. Sr. and Helen L. Six.
He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law Janet and Bobby Lockhart of Murray, Ky., a brother and sister-in-law Ralph L. Jr. and Sandy Six of Athens; a sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Rex Dixon of Stewart; and many nieces and nephews and many special friends in Florida.
Roger's cremated remains will be laid to rest in Salem Community Cemetery. There will be no services.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Roger Six's name to Appalachian Community Hospice, P.O. Box 768 Athens 45701.
Ruth Wright
Died: Thursday, July 5, 2001
NELSONVILLE -- Loving mother and devoted grandmother Ruth Erma Hickman Wright, 79, of El Dorado, Ark., died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Medical Center of South Arkansas, after a brief illness.
Most recently a resident of Hillsboro Manor in El Dorado, Mrs. Wright was born Sept. 28, 1921, in Doanville. She was the daughter of the late James Harley and Anna Green Hickman. She spent most of her life living in Nelsonville's Happy Hollow, as a homemaker, devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Wright.
She is survived by two sons, James William Bill (Nancy) Wright of Clarkston, Mich., and Jerry E. (Mary Ann) Wright of Oregon, Ohio; a daughter, Charlotte Ann (Charles) Taunton of El Dorado; grandchildren Rockford (Denise), William and John (Georgia) Wright, Jennifer and Sarah Taunton, Ann and Mitch Taunton Pickerill, and Victoria Wright; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Edna Mae Spencer (Mrs. Richard Spencer) of Logan, and Garnet Monks (Mrs. Cobby Monks), all of Nelsonville; and a host of loving sisters- and brothers-in-law.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home in Nelsonville. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Margaret Tom
Died: Monday, September 17, 2001
LOGAN -- Margaret Lucille Tom, 87, of Logan, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital.
She was born March 20, 1914, in Logan, daughter of the late Fred and Margaret Lavina Kistler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard R. Tom.
Services will be Thursday, 10 a.m., at Cardaras Funeral Home, Logan. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

LeRoy Dicus
Died: Sunday, September 16, 2001
GLOUSTER -- LeRoy Dicus, 78, of Chillicothe, died peacefully at home on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at 11:15 a.m., following an extended illness. He was surrounded by his family -- including his sister-in-law, Ruth Knotts -- at the time of his death.
LeRoy was born Sept. 8, 1923, in Ashville, son of the late John Steven and Anna Marie Davidson Dicus.
LeRoy was a lifetime resident of Chillicothe and Ross County. For the last 15 years, he and his wife had made their home in Glouster at Burr Oak Lake, following his retirement. While living there, he and his wife occasionally attended Bishopville Church of Christ. Burr Oak Lake gave him many hours of fun and relaxation. He spent a lot of hours there fishing with his buddies, or just taking long, quiet walks with his wife and their friends. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Glouster.
LeRoy retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation District 9 on July 31, 1979, after 25 years of service. He had worked many years as a groundskeeper for the Scioto Valley Youth Baseball League.
LeRoy was a World War II United States Army veteran serving from 1943-46. He was part of the New Guinea, South Philippines Liberation. While serving his country proudly, he received the American theater ribbon, Asiatic theater ribbon with two bronze stars, Philippine liberation good conduct ribbon and the victory medal.
LeRoy had been an avid bowler and had belonged to different leagues at Shawnee Lanes. He still enjoyed going there and watching his family members bowl.
On Aug. 18, 1946, he married Alice Louise Bethards in Bexley.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Beverly Dicus of Chillicothe, with whom he lived. He also is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Mike Cox of Chillicothe; three grandsons, Matt Cox serving with the U.S. Army in Kosovo, Eric Cox and Chris Dicus of Chillicothe; a sister, Evelyn Ruth (Ollie) Rucker; a brother, Oscar (Barbara) Dicus of Chillicothe; two very special sisters-in-law, Beulah Kauffman of Kentucky and Ruth (Carl) Knotts of Chillicothe; and nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Ralph Delong.
He was preceded in death by Louise, his wife of 55 years, on Aug. 11; brothers John Steven Jr. and William Arthur Dicus; and a sister, Edna Marie (Tracy) Delong.
Services will be Thursday, 11 a.m., at Ebright Funeral Home, Frankfort, with Pastor Leon Cook officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort, where military honors will be accorded by the Frankfort American Legion Post.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.
