POMEROY -- David Daniel Russell, 75, of Pomeroy, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis.
Born Sept. 26, 1927, in Wellston, he was the son of the late George Earn and Elizabeth Talbert Russell.
He is survived by his wife, Annette Romine Russell; and children Zane, David, Clay, Star, Angel and Sky Russell.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, at 11 a.m., in Russell Cemetery, Trimble.

Clara E. Deck
Died: Sunday, November 17, 2002
Age: 85
WELLSTON -- Clara E. Deck, 85, of Wellston, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at Four Winds Nursing Facility.
Born Jan. 23, 1917, in Wellston, she was the daughter of the late Alva and Edna McNaughton Martin. Clara was a 1935 graduate of Wellston High School. She was bookkeeper and secretary for the former Gaskill Funeral Home in Wellston and retired from the city of Wellston in 1982, where she served as deputy auditor. She was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Wellston, where she served as church organist for more than 65 years and was a member of Sunday School Class 14. Clara was pianist for the former Gospel Bells Trio, a past member of Wellston Senior Citizens and a volunteer for RSVP.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Jim McWilliams of Wellston, and Betty and Mike Hagerty of Radcliff; grandchildren Jean Ann and Steve Moshier of Wellston, Tom and Sharon McWilliams of Wellston, Tony and Pam Hagerty of Ewington and J.T. Hagerty of Radcliff; great-grandchildren Josh, Alex and Morgan McWilliams of Wellston, and Shavonna Hagerty of Ewington; a sister, Mary Edna Conley of Columbus; a brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Virginia Martin of Wellston; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas A. Deck, in 1981; her brother, Vernon Martin; and two infant children and an infant brother.
Services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at McWilliams Funeral Home, with Pastors Rodney Kuhn and Paula Christian officiating. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery.

Cliff Hancock
Died: Wednesday, February 27, 2002
NEW MARSHFIELD -- Cliff Hancock, 52, of New Marshfield, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens.
Born Nov. 9, 1949, in Coral Gables, Fla., he was the son of the late George Clifford Hancock Jr. and Doris L. Spires Hancock Bush, who died on Feb. 17 of this year. Cliff was a computer Web designer, and a tattoo and piercing artist. He was owner of Midtown Tattoo in Washington, D.C. Cliff had attended Ohio University and was a 20-year resident of the Athens area.
He is survived by six children, Erin Hancock, Crista Hancock, Brandi Shostak, Jake Hancock, Eugene Hancock and Irene Hancock; two sisters, Cathy Roy of Utah, and Jessica Wringle of Washington; a brother, Tino Anthony of Washington, D.C.; and special friends Dr. Albert Mosley and Miriam Zanders.
No public services are planned, and cremation has been requested.

Venice Brown
Died: Tuesday, February 26, 2002
NELSONVILLE -- Venice Alma Brown, 97, of Nelsonville, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at Whetstone Gardens and Care Center in Columbus.
Born July 11, 1904, in Buchtel, she was the daughter of the late N. Olney and Lily Whitmore. Mrs. Brown assisted her husband, the late Clifford C. Brown, in the operations of the former Brown Furniture Store in Nelsonville. She was a longtime member of Nelsonville First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by nephews Robert, Richard and Barry Whitmore, all of Pueblo, Colo., and Jack Whitmore and William Shivers, both of Lancaster; nieces Shirley C. Ketter of Columbus, and Patricia Allsup of Pueblo.
Besides her parents and husband Clifford C. Brown, who passed away on June 1, 1976, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Gilbert and Chester Whitmore; and sisters, Althea Whitmore and Wilma Shivers.
Services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at Warren-Brown Funeral Home in Nelsonville, with David M. Shoemaker officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Louise Tabler
Died: Saturday, February 23, 2002
STEWART -- Louise I. Tabler, 55, of Mayle's Ridge Road, Stewart, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at the home of her son, David Tabler, on Route 550, Bartlett.
Born April 6, 1946, in Chesterhill, she was the daughter of the late Sheryle Tabler and Freda Kennedy. She also is survived by a son Paul Tabler and daughters Carol Harvey and Freda Mayle.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Mount Hermon Church, with burial in Mount Hermon Cemetery,.
Friends may call at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home, Chesterhill, Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and at the church Tuesday one hour prior to the service.
Ruth Cummins
Died: Friday, February 22, 2002
ATHENS -- Ruth Huggins Cummins of Parkersburg, W.Va., formerly of Athens, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002.
Born Jan. 12, 1916, she was the only child of the late Estel O. and Nellie Black Huggins. Ruth graduated from Ohio University and was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She retired from the Belpre school system, taught at Mountain State College and was a realtor. She was a longtime member of the Democratic Women's Club and a member of St. Margaret Mary Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Lawrence E. Cummins, and a daughter, Leslie Ruth Cummins.
She is survived by two sons, Lawrence E. Lance Cummins of Columbus and Williamstown, and James Michael Cummins of Hartwell, Ga. Her grandchildren also survive her, Kelly C. Earley and Tanya L. Arbogast of Parkersburg, Andy Cummins of Las Angeles, Calif., Lawrence C. Woody Cummins and Amber Cummins of Columbus, and Christopher Cummins of Florida; and her great-grandchildren, Alex, Mary, Kate, Andrew and Claire Earley, and Anne, Randall and Brooke Arbogast, all of of Parkersburg, and Allison Cummins and Natasha Combs of Columbus.
A memorial service will be held in her honor on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church, Parkersburg.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Parkersburg Humane Society.
Olga Velvelis
Died: Friday, February 22, 2002
LOGAN -- Olga Velvelis, 82, of Columbus, formerly of Logan, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster.
She was born Feb. 23, 1919, in Riga, Latvia. Mrs. Velvelis was preceded in death by her first husband, John Janis Voits, and second husband, Rudy Velvelis.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery, Logan. Arrangements are by Roberts Funeral Home, Logan.
Sylvia Ambrose
Died: Monday, February 18, 2002
ALBANY -- Sylvia McKenzie Ambrose, 87, of Columbus, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at Huston Nursing Home.
Born Jan. 4, 1915, in Meigs County, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Lowe Garvin. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by a stepson, Robert (Edith) McKenzie; daughters-in-law, Gerri McKenzie, Marie Oiler and Bertha Ludwick; a brother, Charles (Mary) Garvin; and sisters Neva Mossman, Mary (James) Frank and Anna Lewis, with whom she made her home; and many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Lewis McKenzie and Ben Ambrose; stepchildren Elizabeth Shearer, Helen McKinnis, and Alva, Henry and Pat McKenzie; brothers John and Walter Garvin; and sisters Goldie Townsend and Helen Garvin.
Services will be Saturday, 1 p.m., at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home, Albany, with Pat McKenzie and Wendell Combs officiating. Burial will be in Radcliff Cemetery.

Died: Monday, February 18, 2002
ATHENS -- Steve Dean, 46, of Groveport, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at Rockmill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Lancaster.
He was the son of Joe and Eleanor Dean of Ashville, formerly of Athens. He is survived by his wife, Judy, and a daughter, Lori.
Services will be Friday, 1 p.m., at Dwayne R. Spence Funeral Home, 650 W. Waterloo St., Canal Winchester.

Ruby Skinner
Died: Saturday, February 16, 2002
GUYSVILLE -- Ruby Ruth Skinner, 47, of Sargent Road, Guysville, died Saturday morning, Feb. 16, 2002, at Hickory Creek Nursing Center.
She was born Jan. 11, 1955, in West Virginia, the daughter of the late Marion and Ruth Runyon.
She is survived by her loving husband, Donnie Skinner; a son, Kelly Skinner; a stepdaughter, Jenny (Nick) Johnson; a step-granddaughter, Shyla Johnson; a mother-in-law, Avanelle Swart; three brothers, Tom Runyon, Welton Runyon and Allen (Penny) Runyon; nine sisters, Dorothy (Larry) Ervin, Pauline (Chuck) Watkins, Joyce Wilfong, Marion (Robert) Seckman, Janice (Eric) Hill, Kathy (Ed) Reeves, Lelia Runyon, Kay (Henry) Barrows and Judy (Ron) Williams; two sisters-in-law, Gay (Ed) Moleski and Connie (Butch) Tiedtke; a brother-in-law, Ronnie Skinner; several nieces and nephews, including very special nieces and nephews Angie, Dennis and Macy Brickles, whom she loved dearly.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, William Skinner and Jack Wilfong.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens. Burial will be in Bishop Flanders Cemetery.
