James Primmer
Died: Sunday, July 8, 2001

LOGAN -- James Bernard Primmer, 81, of Logan, died Sunday, July 8, 2001, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital.

He was born Sept. 21, 1919, in Rockbridge, son of the late Jeremiah Albertus and Bertha Helen Beiter Primmer.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine Magdalen Miller Primmer.

Services will be held Thursday, 9 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sugar Grove. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Logan.

Friends may call at Roberts Funeral Home in Logan on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:30 p.m. A vigil service will follow.

Waneda Smith
Died: Sunday, July 8, 2001

ALBANY -- Waneda P. Smith, 90, of Blue Valley Road, Lancaster, died Sunday, July 8, 2001, at Sunbridge-Homestead Rehabilitation Center in Lancaster.

Born May 14, 1911, in Griffithsville, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Peter and Stella Stone Woodrum. She was a homemaker and a member of Bible Baptist Church in Lancaster.

She is survived by her husband, Reed Smith; two sons and daughters-in-law, Elroy and Beverly Smith of Lancaster, and Gary and Judy Smith of Rockbridge; a daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Mark Lambert of Lancaster; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Thelma Woodrum of Albany.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Elaine Smith; two brothers, Clay and Ray Woodrum; and six sisters, Vesta Tom, Margie Perry, Bonnie Perry, Nella Hughes, Maude Merrill and Elsie Price.

Services will be held Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home in Albany, with Pastor Roy Maple officiating. Burial will be in Temple Cemetery, Meigs County.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Carrie Lynn Kimmey Conley
Died: Sunday, February 16, 2003
Age: 32

NELSONVILLE -- Carrie Lynn Kimmey Conley, 32, of Nelsonville, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at Grant Medical Center, Columbus.

Born March 12, 1970, in Nelsonville, she was the daughter of John and Nancy Rutter Kimmey of Nelsonville.

She is survived by two sons, Jeff Adams and Derek Snider; a daughter, Deidra Snider; and a brother, John Kimmey Jr., all of Nelsonville.

Services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home in Nelsonville, with the Rev. King Kelly officiating. Interment will be in Whitmore Cemetery, Nelsonville.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Ralph L. McDonald
Died: Sunday, February 16, 2003
Age: 80

MURRAY CITY -- Ralph L. McDonald, 80, of Murray City, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at his residence.

Born July 2, 1922, in New Pittsburgh, Hollow, he was the son of the late Earl and Ilo Lanning McDonald. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Elford Inc. after 32 years of service. He was a member of Labor Local 423 of Columbus for more than 50 years, and was a member of Murray City Legion Post 420.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rosella J. Powell McDonald; sons, Delbert L. (Elly) McDonald of Logan and Robert E. (Peggy) McDonald of Murray City; daughters, Judy (Gene) Wolfe of Murray City, Barbara (Eugene) Smith of Logan; Dianna (Bruce) Roberts of Murray City and Sandra (Greg) Bookman of Murray City; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Wanda Conway of Barberton; and a sister-in-law, Juanita McDonald of Lafayette, La.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Wilbert, Earl (John) and Harold McDonald; and a sister, Kathleen G. McDonald.

Services will be held Thursday, 2 p.m., at Brown Funeral Home in Murray City, with the Revs. Ernie Perkins and David Edgell officiating. Burial will be in Carbon Hill Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where American Legion memorial services will be will at 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Appalachian Community Hospice, 282 E. State St., Athens, 45701.

Harry Baxter
Died: Saturday, February 15, 2003
Age: 68

MILLFIELD -- Harry Baxter, 68, of Millfield, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003.

Born Jan. 31, 1935, in Vermillion, Kansas, he was the son of Helen Holland Baxter Schroeder and the late Arthur Baxter.

He is survived by eight children, including Terry "Alan" Swindell of Shade, Helen Thompson and her friend, Ron Phillips, of Millfield, and Steve Baxter Sr. and his friend, Sue Thomas, of Detroit, Mich.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Jay (Sonya) Moss of Middleport, Mark, Michael and Christopher Thompson of Millfield, Steve, Anna, Brandy and Megan Baxter of Detroit; a great-granddaughter, Makayla Moss of Middleport; and a great-grandson, Victor Perez of Detroit.

Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Alvin Schroeder; and a grandson, Lonney Baxter.

Friends may call at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, on Thursday,from 2 to 6 p.m. Following cremation, burial will be held in Kansas.

Alice Kemmerle
Died: Saturday, February 15, 2003
Age: 82

ATHENS -- Alice Kemmerle, 82, of Athens, died of a stroke at Riverside Hospital in Columbus on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 15, 2003.

She was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on June 5, 1920, to Nils Christian Olsen of Copenhagen, Denmark, and Martha Clarke Olsen of Ballinamallard, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. She grew up in Island Heights, N.J.

She graduated from Toms River High School in Toms River, N.J., in 1937, and received a B.S. in education from Trenton State Teachers College in Trenton, N.J., in 1941. She taught elementary school in Princeton, N.J., from 1941 to 1944, and did graduate work in the summers at Columbia University in New York, N.Y.

In 1944, she married the Rev. Llewellyn Kemmerle, then pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Union City, Ind. They were married 48 years, until his death in 1992. She taught elementary school in Union City in 1944-45 and then in Princeton from 1945 to 1947. The Kemmerles lived in Scranton, Pa., in 1948. When the family moved to Westerville in 1948, she began to work fulltime in the home.

Mrs. Kemmerle moved to Athens in 1963 when her husband became pastor of First Presbyterian Church. She had lived in Athens since 1963.

She began to work for the College of Arts and Sciences of Ohio University in 1968 and retired as assistant dean emerita in 1993. She was Outstanding Administrator in 1977 and was elected to the OU chapter of Phi Beta Kappa in 1981. She was a member of the OU Emeriti and Athens First Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Kemmerle was preceded in death by her husband, Llewellyn; and her brother, Allen.

She is survived by her sister, Eileen Fancher; by her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Toni Kemmerle of Brunswick, Maine; and their children, Karen, Michael and Allison; by her son and daughter-in-law, Peter Kemmerle and Maria Arroyo of Louisville, Ky., and their children, Daniel and Luiz; and by her daughter, Anne Kemmerle of Milford, and her son, Lucas.

A memorial service will be held Friday, 4 p.m., at Athens First Presbyterian Church, 2 N. Court St.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Appalachian Community Visiting Nurse Association, Hospice and Health Services, 30 Herrold Ave., Athens, 45701; or Ohio University Foundation, Alice O. Kemmerle Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 869, Athens.

Arrangements are by Jagers and Sons Funeral Home.

Matthew R. Reeve
Died: Saturday, February 15, 2003
Age: 21

ALBANY -- Matthew R. Reeve, 21, of Albany, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, in Athens.

Born Aug. 15, 1981, in Athens, he was the son of Carolyn and Bob Allman of Albany and Ron Reeve of Columbus. He was a 1999 graduate of Alexander High School and attended Hocking College. He was employed by Wal-Mart in Athens, and was a member of the Army National Guard.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Rhonda and Jon Wallace of Canal Winchester; maternal grandmother Ann Graves of Albany; paternal grandfather Robert Reeve of Albany; paternal grandmother Gail Reeve of Canada; step-grandparents Johnnie and Linda Allman of Albany; aunts and uncles Connie Graves and Jim Creamer of Athens, Judy and Paul Belcher of Wellston, Roger and Bonnie Graves of Ewington, Rick and Melanie Reeve of Albany and Robin Reedy of Winnie, Texas; and many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Asa Graves; an uncle, Robert Reeve; and an aunt, Rhonda Lori Reeve.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home, Albany, with Pastor Ed Brown officiating. Burial will be in Alexander Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Larry Thomas Rice
Died: Saturday, February 15, 2003
Age: 59

NEW MARSHFIELD -- Larry Thomas "Tom" Rice, 59, of Reynoldsburg, formerly of New Marshfield, died Feb. 15, 2003.

Born Nov. 14, 1943, he was the son of Mary Rice of Athens and the late Blaine Rice. He was retired from Lucent Technology.

He is survived by his wife, Esther; daughters, Lori (David) Waldeck, Kathy Murray, and Linda (Mike) Huhn, all of the Reynoldsburg area; a son, Tommy, of Reynoldsburg; a sister, Mary Jo (Keith) Gabriel of Athens; a brother, Jerry Lee (Sandra) of Jefferson, Ark.; six granchildren, and three great-grandchildren;

Services will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Cotner Funeral Home, 7369 E. Main St., Reynoldsburg. Interment will be in Glen Rest Memorial Estate.

Friends may call at the funeral home today, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
